My mom and dad literally used to sing this song to me whenever I used to feel sad for not having a boyfriend while my other friends were going on dates. I love you mom and dad!🤍😍
I just found out Mary Wilson passed away today. In 1996, I used to volunteer at a youth center called Sunset Junction. The director of the youth center was Michael McKinley, who was the organizer of the Sunset Junction Street Fair and he is a HUGE fan of the supremes. That year (1996) he booked Mary Wilson to be one of the headliners where she performed hits like “you can’t hurry love” and “stop in the name of love” at the Edgecliff stage. After she performed, Michael had arranged a big dinner for her at El Conquistador restaurant (now el condor). I had worked at the tickets booths that day and was invited to the dinner. I happened to sit directly across Mary Wilson and I was amazed by her beauty. She was super nice and told us some stories about her journey into music and some of the places it took her. She then opened up about the loss of her son in a car accident on their way back from a Las Vegas performance two years prior. Then she continued to charm the dozen of us at the table with her beautiful smile and stories. Suddenly she looked at me and we made eye contact for what seemed to be an entire minute although I’m sure it was only 3 seconds. She smiled and said to me “you know, you are really handsome!”. I smiled and blushed hard. When it was over she gave me a nice hug and I told her it was an honor meeting her. “Thank you sweetie, it was a pleasure”, she said. And a pleasure it was indeed. I’ll never forget that moment of my life. Rest In Peace Mary Wilson, I hope she’s now reunited with her son Rafael.
We have lost another of the truly great stars - but she will shine forever in the heavens. "Sic itur ad astra" (Thus one journeys to the stars) - Virgil, "The Aeneid" (Book IX, line 641)
Yes i do so agree with you on that... Not in the limelight at all , however quietly holding the songs together & that takes talent for sure... Peggy W.
Actually Diana Ross used to have a name for each of her bandmates and would pull this into their live stage show. Florence Ballard was "The Quiet One" and Mary Wilson "The Sexy one".
I REALLY grew up on this music. I was born in Detroit, Michigan and Mary Wells lived in the house on the next street, Aretha Franklin would get her gas at where my Father was working as an attendant, Stevie Wonder lived a few blocks away. We would see these guys and girls as we walked to school.
To the person that reads this, I ask the Lord to bless them and their family, to cure them of every sickness and pain, to fill their emptiness with love joy and peace, to rebuke the enemy from their lives. " ASK JESUS TO COME INTO YOUR HEART AND SAVE YOU, AND TO FORGIVE YOU OF YOUR SINS, FOR WE GIVE THANKS AND GLORY TO THE LORD. IN THE MIGHTY NAME OF JESUS CHRIST AMEN!
My mom told us that this is such a wonderful song from her era. In mid 60s she was a sweet 16, and that she'd that time, regularly ask for 20 cents from my late grandpa and head out to nearby cafe's jukebox to air the song. At 70+ today, she still loves Diana Ross' songs and is still keeping it inside her Apple IP.
we use to dress up like the supremes and sing to this into our hair brushes -- we'd entertain ourselves all day long just kept playing this over and over again! Love don't come easy and yes it is a game of give and take! Mama sure knows!
I did too and I would also choreograph dances. First one, I think I was about 6 or 7 and did Little Eva's "Loco Motion" was the first. But also to these, ("Stop in the Name of Love"), such wonderful memories!!! Thanks for sharing!
Diana has a voice of an absolute angel, ah the oldies...this stuff is so timeless. No computers, no auto nothing, backing band is solid always...just pure talent.
As someone who grew up in the 80’s~90’s, I discovered this song via Phil Collin’s cover.. but nothing like going to the original version of a piece and just enjoy the energy and intention of the authors…such a treat! 🎶✨☀️
This song says a truism, when we are teenagers, we want to have a lover, and some do, but not all of us. There are things like love that must be waited for the right time, for them to appear in our lives. I was a loner in my twenties, and at last found the right girl for me and married her at 38, I am 77 now, still love my wife, and believe me the love I got, was worth waiting for.
Yes it does and yes it is so GREAT...This is some one from that generation...These songs ring so true even after so many years of listening to them for they have with stood the test of time...
Taj B Yes Taj, I totally understand - Diana and her beautiful dynamic clear and distinctive voice, the harmonizing, and tremendous orchestration that adds amazing clarity complexity and depth to the music. And in a few decades you will also see what those of us already there can additionally appreciate - how beautiful and charming these women were.
Oh that is so true bro. I'm only 17 and love this sort of music... It brings out true emotion into the world and it allows us to reflect on what life may behold in the future. Classic's will always rule (I must say though some music is okay in the modern age but like i said classics are better)
I need love, love Oh, ease my mind And I need to find time Someone to call mine My mama said, "you can't hurry love No, you'll just have to wait" She said, "love don't come easy But it's a game of give and take" You can't hurry love No, you'll just have to wait Just trust in a good time No matter how long it takes How many heartaches must I stand Before I find the love to let me live again Right now the only thing that keeps me hanging on When I feel my strength, ooh, it's almost gone I remember mama said, "you can't hurry love No, you'll just have to wait" She said, "love don't come easy It's a game of give and take" How long must I wait How much more must I take Before loneliness Will cause my heart, heart to break No, I can't bear to live my life alone I grow impatient for a love to call my own But when I feel that i, I can't go on Well these precious words keep me hanging on I remember mama said, "you can't hurry love No, you'll just have to wait" She said, "love don't come easy But it's a game of give and take" You can't hurry love No, you'll just have to wait Just trust in a good time No matter how long it takes Now wait Now love, love don't come easy But I keep on waiting Anticipating for that soft voice To talk to me at night For some tender arms Hold me tight I keep waiting Ooh, till that day But it ain't easy (love don't come easy) No, you know it ain't easy My mama said you can't hurry love No, you'll just have to wait She said "love don't come easy But it's a game of give and take" You can't hurry love No, you'll just have to wait She said "love don't come easy But it's a game of give and take" You can't hurry love, no you'll just have to wait
I need love, love to ease my mind I need to find, find someone to call mine But Mama said You can't hurry love No, you just have to wait She said love don't come easy It's a game of give and take You can't hurry love No, you just have to wait You got to trust, give it time No matter how long it takes But how many heartaches must I stand Before I find a love to let me live again? Right now the only thing that keeps me hangin' on When I feel my strength, yeah, is almost gone I remember Mama said You can't hurry love No, you just have to wait She said love don't come easy It's a game of give and take How long must I wait? How much more can I take? Before loneliness will cause my heart Heart to break? R.I.P. Mary Wilson Thank You for all of Yours and The Supremes music growing up as a young teenager. All of us young girls rocked your music we couldn't get enough of it.
This is probably the first time I've heard this with headphones, and its sounds better than I imagined! Early Motown songs always seem to have that prepiness about them that makes my heart soar.,
That's James Jamerson on the bass; just listen focussing on the bass alone and you'll realise his bass drives most of Motown's songs, indeed with its "prepiness".
My grandma went home to the Lord 2020 and she loved this song so when I listen to this I feel like she's right next to me.This has been the heartbreak of my life but Praise be to God I can listen to this song feel comfort and not cry but smile and reminisce on her singing it Love you forever grandma carol until we meet again one day ❤
Sorry for your loss. It's always a sad period when we lose those close to us. It's a natural process; in time, you would get over your grief. In the meantime, keep the faith.
@@AllieInWonderland Thank you so much one day at a time it hurts so bad in moments but I just keep calling on the Lord for his strength God bless you and your family ❤
I have panic attacks and anxiety very few things calm me down except for this type of music and blast from the past I hope I get past it it's hard being in this situation when you have a voice telling you you have something wrong with you when you know deep down your healthy I just loved in my own head for 2 years and the stress just overloaded and caused a panic attack well I hope everyone has a good day

This song is like a time machine for me, it takes me straight back to my youth: I listened to the group under the duvet during a night show so my parents wouldn't notice. The show was called saturday Night Club and ran at midnight. A very nice memory!

These girls were absolute super stars , way , way ahead of their times and ahead of the music industry as well. That was the way it was. Love them all , and wished they stayed together.
The song turned out to be so true. I met my forever love in '85, twenty years after we'd graduated. No, it don't come easy. He had to go through Khe Sanh and an unfaithful wife and I had a lot of lonely nights. It was worth it. Thanks, girls. You made our time the best time.
