Today's video is all about my gpoem surgery for gastroparesis and how I am doing today!
This surgery was an absolute miracle for me and truly saved my life. I am excited to put this video out there to inform and educate others about gastroparesis and hopefully help others out there who may be going through the same thing as I did.
This video includes a sit down portion of me talking about the surgery and also a vlog of the week leading up to surgery (as you can tell by the dates, the vlog was filmed before the virus became widespread which is why we don’t have masks). For those who only want to learn about a specific part of the surgery process, I have time stamps below for you to reference :) Also, I have linked my previous four videos about gastroparesis, if you haven't seen them yet and would like to know more about my whole gastroparesis story and how I ended up with a feeding tube.
I hope you enjoy the video and that it helps you in some way. Subscribe for new videos every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday and remember to spread kindness and joy!
Feel free to comment or message me if you have any questions!

I’m going through the diagnosis process for gastroparesis right now and all of the videos you’ve made have been so helpful. Currently on erythromycin and it isn’t doing much. Losing weight and vomiting daily :/ Just anxious for next steps in the process, thank you for being so honest and open about this because it really gives me hope!

I’m sorry to hear you are going through this process but I am happy my videos were able to help you through a little bit. The hardest part is trying to find what works best for your body and it is a long process but once you get there it will all be worth it. Gastroparesis and what all comes along with it can be very anxiety producing and you are so strong for going through it. I am happy to be honest and open to help others going through the same thing, and to show others who don’t have Gastroparesis what it is like so more awareness can be brought to it and hopefully more research and treatments. Keep fighting!

This surgery literally saved my life. I was miserably sick for a decade, with daily projectile vomiting for the last three years with gastroparesis, and I am cured. If your lower pyloris is non-functional and or covered in scar tissue, and your GI dr can test this, you can possibly be cured, too.

You are so positive and incredibly inspirational!! I spent a lot of time in the hospital when I was young for both eye and heart surgeries. I absolutely hated being in that environment and the side effects of all the medications. This video brought back so many of those memories for me, but just as you mentioned, it reminded me of how lucky I am to have made it through all those difficult times. Thank you for sharing your story!! I'm so glad to hear that you are doing better.

Literally same! I developed such a bad relationship with food because I kept restricting certain kinds of food in order to find something simple enough for my body to handle. I ended up developing avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) and becoming completely terrified of food and the pain that went along with it. I am way better now though!

After I had this surgery done I threw up all day for about 5 days and they had to put another feeding tube in I had it done July 30th 2019 and wasn’t able to eat by mouth until the beginning of October and then it seemed like the surgery magically kicked in and I could actually start taking in foods by mouth. Current time I am still not able to eat “normal” I only stick to soft food...I’m prescribed motrgrity (sorry not sure how to spell it) but I never actually started taking it because once my insurance finally covered it I was feeling better from the surgery. last week I had a bad flare up and hearing your story I think I’m going to give the medication a try because currently not able to eat much again at all
@KennaKrueger
@KennaKrueger 4 года назад
Aww I’m sorry to hear that’s how your surgery experience went. It’s so crazy how Gastroparesis presents and effects people so differently, much more needs to be learned about the condition! I am happy to hear you are working on getting nutrition, keep going! And if your doctor recommends it, starting motegrity again could help! I actually took motegrity a while back and then stopped because of some side effects but a couple months later decided to try it again and it helps so much this time with no side effects. Everyone is different and it’s all just about what’s finding best for you and what works for you. Keep fighting and I hope things will get better for you!
@triciaa3166
@triciaa3166 4 года назад
Yeah it is crazy how different everyone’s experience is! How did you build up the courage to actually start expanding your nutrition? I’m also nervous of the side effects ☹️ my doctor mentioned I may have a headache for 2 weeks when I start taking it and I worry other side effects may happen as well but I want to eat so it’s a chance I think I’m going to have to take
@KennaKrueger
@KennaKrueger 4 года назад
Honestly it was pretty scary to incorporate new food into my diet just because of the fear that was put towards certain foods and Gastroparesis. I just took things slow and when I felt that both my body and mind were ready, then I decided to take in more foods. The mind is so strong so I wanted to make sure my mind was fully ready to embrace the new foods as well. Overcoming the initial fear was the hardest part but after that it gets easier! Start small and work your way up! Don’t be afraid to talk to a doctor or nutritionist to help find food that works for you. My doctor helped me find the best nutrition shakes for me and those helped a lot! Side effects of medications can be scary and bothersome so you just have to consider what is best for you. I personally had a headache for about 4 days but after that it went away. Watch how your body is feeling, listen to it, and just do what it needs most. You are so strong, keep fighting!

Hi! I hope you see my comment. I have gp and i'm experiencing severe bloating with the little amounts of food that eat. After the tests the doctors told me that my bowels are completely healthy, the problem is digesting. In the gastric emptying scan i wasn't able to digest the eggs and toast in 3 hours. Do you think GPOEM would help me?
@KennaKrueger
@KennaKrueger 3 года назад
Aww sorry you are going through all of this, I know how painful and frustrating it can be. I don’t want to give you a definite answer because I am not a doctor and there is still so much unknown about Gastroparesis and why certain treatments help some people and why they don’t help others. It could help you but it also could not. This video was filmed awhile ago and in my case, I now have a feeding tube because my Gastroparesis is still pretty severe. Through an endoscopy we found that my pylorus was wide open (meaning the surgery “worked” at keeping my pylorus open) but my stomach still doesn’t empty because it doesn’t know how to relax/contract so it holds onto all of the food, so it didn’t really matter that they opened up my pylorus more. But this isn’t the case for everyone. Some people still have great long term success with the surgery and that would just have to be a discussion with your doctor on whether or not it is something to try. I truly hope you are able to find something that helps manage your symptoms💚

yes! According to my gastric emptying test I was labeled as “moderate to severe” but to me I didn’t really focus on how the test labeled me but more about how I personally felt. Around October, November of 2019, I started getting really bad and actually ended up in the hospital with a feeding tube with malnutrition and starvation ketosis, because I could barely eat and I was so nauseous all the time. I hope this helps but i also went into a lot of detail on my condition and how severe it was in my four other Gastroparesis videos on my channel, if you want to know more details or more information about my experience with Gastroparesis!
