When you think about it, it's really a miracle that Living with the Land has stuck around as long as it has. And I'm also kinda glad for it, keeping that old school Epcot feel and classic dark boat ride when IPcot and screens become more and more prevalent.

Under👏🏻rated👏🏻ride👏🏻 Thank you for standing up for the best ride in Epcot. Hope someday they can update it with some of the more recent (or more “showy”) innovations from controlled environment agriculture bc this ride literally inspired my entire career and I think revamping some of the greenhouse section could do wonders for garnering interest.

I love how Living with the Land has the power to temporarily pacify even the high maintenance Epcot-goers in your travel party. They will complain during the line but once they're on the ride, they'll glaze over and check out like they used to in all their science courses. It's so de-stressing when you can get to learn without the anxiety of an exam blocking the way out. I've had so much Dallin hair envy these past few vids that I could use a relaxing ride on Living with the Land right now. Or a key change.

I’m not sure if I’d call it the best attraction at Epcot (it’s still Spaceship Earth for me despite the current version not being my favorite), but Living with the Land feels like old Epcot and is not outdated at all. Behind the Seeds is also worth doing and is one of the least expensive tours.

Living With The Land is absolutely my favorite attraction in EPCOT. It's incredibly relaxing, which is needed when you're dealing with the chaos of crowds that is Disney. Then again I also love Carousel of Progress in Magic Kingdom so I'm definitely an edutainment type.
@Kozakology

A perfect explanation. The original “Epcot” will forever hold my heart. The Disney Edutainment is why I became a teacher. Without the Maelstrom, Living with the Land is the only way that I can still touch a brief moment of my childhood.

Went on this a few weeks ago. Sat alone in the front with my souvenir cup Orange Bird smoothie and Figment shoulder plush. Had a group of high-school age boys behind me who absolutely made my trip with their surprisingly earnest appreciation for the greenhouse section. Even if they did get reprimanded over loud speaker multiple times for trying to touch the sand.

The lettuce tunnel was used to simulate gravity in space. For a time, NASA had a small portion in the greenhouse lab area. The scientists that work there do have projects that have a beginning and end and this NASA collaboration was one of them.

I recall from sometime in my childhood, of many hours of watching Disney Channel, one of the EPCOT Center documentaries feature length advertisements mentioned that the lettuce tunnel was for researching how food could be grown in space. Hence the centrifugal force of the spin to simulate gravity.

Last time I was at WDW was back in 2014 (I think). It was my partner's first trip and I was so excited to show him Living with the Land. That was also the year I discovered how inexpensive the Behind the Seeds tour was so we went on it. So worth it! I learned about the wasps they cultivate and keep in the greenhouses for pest control, received further education on hydro, aero, and aquaponic grow systems (I was heavy into the first two at the time), and my partner got to show off his knowledge of spices at the end. Getting to eat slices of fresh cucumbers at the end seems silly but it was a nice way to bring it all back to our connection with the earth and reliance on its bounty. 15/10, highly recommend Behind the Seeds.

The Behind the Seeds tour is one of the best tours for the price on all of Disney property. Up until they shut it down for the last two years, it was our anniversary tradition to do it every year which we had done for six years and running. We hope they bring it back soon. You learn so much more and get to see the attraction from vastly different areas than you do when in the boat. All the tour guides we have had have been outstanding, and each will give you slightly different information. However, if possible, request Les! He’s the cast member overseeing the entire greenhouse and designs everything, and he’s amazing. So to everyone, when the tour comes back (if it does), it’s well worth your time and money.

Ok I’m from the south and can explain the “Good melon rinds” line In the south we grow a lot of melons, especially Watermelons, usually when we go camping or something, we’ll eat these Watermelons, and then the rinds we throw into the woods, “giving it back to nature” which is probably why that line’s there

Okay but hear me out- I know nothing about what is currently still in that ride, but when I rode it for the first time back about a year ago, the dark sides of the beginning scenes (by that I mean the house scene, for example, is lit up on one side of the river, and then the other side of the river is pitch black) looked like it had a bunch of stuff there. By that I mean it didn’t look like a smooth wall as you’d turn corners, but as if there was stuff over there just hidden in the darkness. Anyone know what that might be, or if I’m just insane?

I’m so sad to see the wait times less than 20 min meaning less interest. I will always remember it being one of my grandmas favorite rides and then the rest of the trip someone was humming or singing the song no matter what park we were at . I remember as a kid it being the afternoon. Just after the crazy thunderstorm being in the super long line being wet and freezing cold. I know we would wait always an hour or more. I just remember it being the longest line (before test track was built).

Years later in 1892 I stayed at the Contemporary Resort's A frame for a two week vacation and EPCOT had just opened there. Each visit was very rememorable. Gosh, don't you just love Epcot?? The vibe of that park is just so good; it just has what I consider to be my quintessential "Disney park feeling," if that makes sense. Like, when I think WDW, I think Epcot. It used to be my least favorite as a kid, but these days (now especially since I can drink around the world, lol) it is BY FAR my favorite Disney park. I could spend days and days just in World Showcase alone (despite generally dedicating more than half my Epcot days in WS and having visited more times than I can count, I still feel as though there are so many great little nooks and crannies that I have yet to experience), and now with the Guardians rollercoaster, the most fun coaster at WDW (although it's insanely fun, I do have gripes with its theme considering Marvel movies have absolutely no business whatsoever in Epcot and it make no thematic sense at all being in the park to begin with), Epcot easily stands out to me as being my favorite day of any Disney trip I go on. Nothing beats a great day at Epcot: You have yourself a good ride on Spaceship Earth, LWTL, Soarin', Guardians, Test Track (old TT was a much, much better experience than new TT and I'll fight anyone who disagrees), stop by Club Cool for a quick sugar blast, and of course a ride on Figment before making your way towards the World Showcase and spending your afternoon strolling through the countries with a nice beer or cocktail, perusing the awesomely immersive shops and dining locations and grabbing a great sit-down dinner later on (Les Chefs de France, anyone? Maybe a nice pizza over at Via Napoli? You really can't go wrong with World Showcase sit-down meals; they're the best at the entire resort). By then the park starts to clear out more and you begin to feel like you have it all to yourself as the once-crowded walkways give way to wide open paths and stunning vistas of the various landmarks throughout the world. The sun starts going down, you're full of filet mignon, potatoes au gratin and good red wine, and it cools off more right as you hit your second-wind after dinner, making for an absolutely PERFECT Disney evening to wrap up your perfect Disney day. And while I do enjoy fireworks, I typically like to head back towards Future World and get one or two more rides on Test Track and/or Spaceship Earth while there is basically no wait. That's my perfect Epcot day right there. You'll have a tough time convincing me that there's any other Disney park that can give you that great of a day. Man, I just love Epcot.

Curious if anyone knows what happened to the people in the last scene of Living with the Land, like the 'tomato girl' and 'blueberry kid'. Heard those were stock photos from the 80s/90s. If they're still around, they might be in their early 50s. It's fascinating they've been part of Epcot for so long. Wondering if anyone has info, they've unknowingly become a meaningful part of many visits.

Listen to the Land was a highlight of my trip to EPCOT Center in 1983. I even ate at The Good Turn restaurant. I think I had quiche. I remember that the restaurant menu contained the same foods that were available at the food court downstairs, and for the same prices! It was table service, so there was a gratuity involved. I also remember thinking the food at Disney World was reasonably priced, compared to the way the only other theme parks I was familiar with, Six Flags over Texas and Astroworld, overcharged for food and drinks. The Land wasn't my favorite pavilion at that time, however. That distinction goes to Universe of Energy.

Don't know if anyone else mentioned it but the Listen to the Land music video was very reminsicent of the Glen Campbell opening to the Grand Opening of Walt Disney World.

I really love Living with the Land. It is one of my favorite EPCOT attractions and despite being a big roller coaster enthusiast, I always get a ride or two on Living with the Land when I visit EPCOT. I think the ride is absolutely showing its age and I hope Disney keeps it around for a while but I can definitely see a change to it as WDC looks to improve EPCOT.

Ever since I was little this has always been my favorite ride! I don’t know why people dislike it or think it’s boring!
