Great talk. Photography is one of the most underrated hobbies. It's a great way to connect with life and forces you to engage. It's a mirror to your soul.

I stumbled across this video by happy accident. I wasn't going to watch it at first, but having recently starting photographing strangers myself I wanted to give it a view. Only thing I can say is... I wish it was longer. This is one of the better Tedx talks I've seen about human interactions. Thank you for this (6 years in the future).

Magical and inspiring! I've also encountered many beautiful and fascinating strangers when doing street photography. I often find that when I'm out photographing, sometimes people will even come up to me and ask to be photographed. Never a dull moment.

This was a very inspirational talk. I have been contemplating the 100 Strangers Project for nearly two years and have yet worked up the courage to start it. I am so much of an introvert that it's nearly debilitating, yet my favorite past times are people watching and street photography. I wish I had the courage this man has to just walk up and start talking to people.

street photography helped me in both communicating with people and improving my photography skill. here's the detail: - it may be interesting to take candid shots, but there's just this abstract sense of connection i got when i talk to my subjects. even better, i got things zoom-lens or distant candid shots can't get: details. i got to see the minute details from my subjects that emphasize their humanity more than. also, by working on certain circumstances, i got to walk away from my comfort zone in zoom lens and started to go with prime lens and take shots up-close (and personal); - most of my colleagues and friends quit photography since they deemed it boring, as 'there's nothing interesting to shoot'. thanks to street photography, i still get in touch with photography (i also consider quitting photography sometime during the past) and improve in shooting, compositing, and editing. i also get to learn modeling and seeing the quirks of my subject and implement them to make their portraits stand out. it _really_ is a humanizing experience, in a world where saying hello to strangers can be rude

I went out and did some "street" photography and found people saw me almost as an authority. I was taking pics of the architecture and the people acted like they didnt want to walk into the shot and I heard lots of people say to eachother oh look at his nice camera.. no one got mad and yelled at me for taking their picture but I only really got people in the shot when they happened to walk into the scene I was shooting. So I think if you take a picture of a person they will maybe get mad but if you're taking pictures of the scenery and they walk into it they don't really care.

I did two rounds of 100 Strangers (a project on Flickr a few years ago). It was the most difficult and at the same time the most rewarding experience ever. As I said on my page, "100 Strangers: where the first stranger your meet is yourself". Highly recommended.

"Don't talk to strangers" yea, as a youngster, I too had been given such advice... Let me ask you this; If you had listened to this piece of advice as a child, how then would you make new friends?? A rather bold question I ask but without talking to strangers, you'd most likely be a very lonely individual.

TED talks approaches issues that have been written and analysed hundreds of years ago. Go to a library and read Marcus Aurelius, Aristóteles or any other of the great thinkers. The Problem is that people are lazy to think for themselves and believe that what is presented in these type of videos is an innovative idea. It’s not. It’s just presented on a cool way by a cool guy. Analyse the content and you will realise that there is nothing deep or novel. But entertains!

Eurgh. Ted Talks is just a platform for narcissists to tell people why they’re better than them.

Basically he copied an idea.. “Portraits of New York”.. Also the whole concept of “approaching strangers on the streets, on the bus and make friends out of that approach”.. COULD NOT APPLY EVERYWHERE.. I could not see an scenario where this will go well every time.. in Irak or Venezuela.. or so many more places.. THIS TALK IS BASICALLY A CLICHE.. that does not apply in today’s world.. I Usually don’t give thumbs down, but this is disappointing for a TED TALK!
