The Susegad Life | An award-winning Goa Documentary 2023

In my docufilm "The Susegad Life", I had the privilege of delving into the conscious tourism company 'The Local Beat Goa' and their remarkable journey. Through this documentary, I aimed to capture the essence of life in Goa and the vibrant culture of its hinterland, all while highlighting the authenticity of Goans as they navigate the touristy state. Moreover, it was crucial to shed light on the issue of over tourism and its impact on this beautiful region. I hope viewers will gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities in preserving Goa's unique charm through this film.

Yes Goa is a beautiful place. I lived there, and i moved away. Even nature is so beautiful, and i thought, how can i live without the ocean. It became over touristic. Prices, rent not affordable for me anymore. Infrastructure a nightmare. Unless you are younger and driving a bike. Locals often unfriendly and disrespectful. As many hate the tourists, but have to live from there money. I moved away. Sadly. I came to Goa first time 1987 for a visit. Only nature and realy nice people then. Your video is lovely. And i wish you all the best for your life.

I had visited Goa in 2003 and I can relate to what they mentioned about crowds. Back then even I was a Gaon ki chori, so the glitz and glam didn't seem so annoying. But now as someone who has lived in the metros, I always steered away from Goa as I always remembered the crowds. I am planning a trip soon and hope to adapt to and adopt the Susegaad culture. Any tips on how to do that are welcome. I am not very fit so not very sure if I will be able to do the treks, but I am open to suggestions

Hello, Thanks for your comment. I used Sony M-IV and samyang 24-70 f2.8 to shoot most of the scenes. Samyang 24mm T1.8 cine lens for some of the landscapes and interviews. I hope this helps. The monochrome effect is just a post production magic in Da Vinci software.

Thanks for pointing it out. But I believe there are multiple meanings to the word ' Viva ' and used as interjection in many phrases across Goa. 'Cheers' also makes sense according to the Portuguese Goan Vocabulary.

Unfortunately "dying susegad" I rather feel. I am visiting Goa since the early 2000s and more than 10 visits spanning different parts. Sadly, near recent I am observing a growing rude behavior from the Goans specifically from the tourism industry. The body language and tone of many people working/owning the stays and restaurants is seen quite unwelcoming. For the most part it feels like they do not want any more tourists. Not just the body language but at quite a few places I observed skirmishes between the businesses and tourists even leading to physical fights. So lately I am getting repelled towards the idea of flocking to Goa, even the southern or internal parts. I respect the space that the locals would need in any tourist place such as this, but they definitely need to find a better way of tackling the over tourism and not blemishing the susegad life.

As a goan I think the main issue is the mindset of tourists coming to Goa. Instead of having real fun they think it's a place to do whatever thing's they couldn't in their native place. I am working in Bengaluru, when I tell my colleagues or people here that I am from Goa, the first thing that comes to their mind is Alcohol, Drugs, girls and beaches. It's so painful when they have that image of my Goa in their mind. I try to convince them, show their our culture but they are so ignorant. Goa has always been an welcoming place for all religions, cultures and people from all places. We have never forced our language and culture on others unlike many parts of India. I have seen so many people complaining about rude behaviour from Goans. But for a moment they should also think from our POV. We welcomed a guest in our house, treated them well but now the same guest is trying to litter the house, disrespect it's culture and traditions so why wouldn't we get angry with him. Long story in short The tourists needs to change the mindset that Goa is a place where they can do any mischief they want and we fellow Goans should not let our culture and traditions and Goenkarpon die. Viva Goa❤

I stay in goa and one of my friend from hyderabad (can't call him friend too since I haven't spoke to him in 10 years) calls me up and asks if I can arrange for girls. This mindset is cheap and disgusting, that's the reason tourists are treated the way they should be in Goa.

Real goa is not mentioned here. 80 % men die early due to alchoholism. After crossing age of 45. Women's are plenty and stays longer. Just peep into every village. Secondly we goans fight with one another for silly reasons while goans support every non goans and their illegal activities. Crimes and murders occurred right during Portuguese times and later on mulplied in 100 folds.

@@TalwinderDhillonTravels Well it's not Government's job to teach people manners. Change starts from within and if you expect others (in this case Government) to change the tourists, sorry brother, you need to relook travel. I hope you really understand the essence of travel and educate people about it. And just for your knowledge, Goa would be a beautiful place if some of the tourists just read the sign boards placed by the government there. I am not justifying the government here, it has a long way to go. But my friend, our tourists have a longer way to reach common sense as well.
