I knew to polymer clay and just heard about this technique yesterday so I decided to Google Lisa and found this video and much to my surprise I actually have that stamp she is using in the demonstration ha ha I’ve had it for probably 15 years but don’t remember where I got it.

I love the Sutton slice and I shave mine the same way. I always run my clay through my machine and thin it out and lay it over it and then press in. That works for me and it's not a ton of clay to take off. Thank you for the tutorial! Love this channel!

Another great video from Lisa. This technique has certainly changed since the first time I did it. I've made several things with the Sutton Slice but some of the newer moves she did in the vid I will have to try. Thanks again for a clear, concise instruction.
@FireMountainGems
@FireMountainGems 7 лет назад
Oh, now I'm curious :) What were the newer moves that Lisa taught you?
@carlarandall1811
@carlarandall1811 7 лет назад
The placement of the blade and swinging it rather than just bowing it a bit and pulling the whole blade. Also, the way she releases it so it can be adjusted if some of the clay sticks. Before, I tended to try to hurry the process by putting down bigger pieces of clay to put into the crevices but now I will discipline myself to use smaller bits. :-)

Polymer clay is tons of fun. Once you've invested in the tools, you don't need to constantly replace them, either.
@LisaPavelka
@LisaPavelka 7 лет назад
There are lots of cool tools for polymer clay, but most of my work is done with a Pasta/Clay Machine (the biggest investment), a clay blade, hobby knife and a smooth ceramic work tile. That with a started clay kit are all under $100.00 and you can make a lot with just these items. Clay costs pennies per project, but of course we "Polyholics" have to have other tools like texture stamps, cutters, etc. You can add these gradually to your collection, but it's such an affordable and economical medium to work in!

Hi Lisa - great teaching videos! Both my wife and I love to work with polymer clay as well as paper clay, natural clay and cold porcelain clay. I love this technique you're showing! Annika - I'm Robert's wife. I have an off-topic question for you that I hope you won't mind answering: The scarf behind you (Pashmina?) is gorgeous, and I'm hoping you sell them, or wouldn't mind telling me where you bought it - or even point me to a video where you dye it and demonstrate the technique. Thanks in advance! Anyway~ thank you from the both of us for your informative tutorials. Robert & Annika

Cool technique! My hands and wrists are quite arthritic, so I'm not sure I'll be able to do the "happy finger dance". Have you tried using a brayer for making the background layers stick to the clay inside the stamp/texture sheet?
@LisaPavelka
@LisaPavelka 7 лет назад
In earlier questions about this, a brayer can prematurely lift the clay from the cavities and place it into another, ruining the effect. For hands that have painful conditions such as arthritis, tendonitis, etc., you can tamp the closed end of an acrylic clay rod down, over and over to get the same results without the same type of fatigue on your hands Michelle. Happy Claying!
@MichellesHandmadeCreations
@MichellesHandmadeCreations 7 лет назад
Thanks, good to know. I didn't see previous questions when I skimmed down the page. Too many to look through. Appreciate you letting me know a brayer is not a good idea for the tech.

Thank you for this video. I tried this technique for the first time this week using these Lisa Pavelka molds. I made sure to add clay softener to my clay, so it was very soft and sticky. However, the mold is leaching the clay, so by the time I'm ready to roll it onto the base sheet (especially if I don't have time to do it all in one sitting), the clay is dry and cracked. Have you heard of this before? Is there anything I can do to the molds to keep them from leaching the clay?
@FireMountainGems
@FireMountainGems Год назад
Hi Almond and thank you for your patience. Our in-house jewelry designer, Rose, is stumped. She has used Lisa's molds many, many times and have never had this happen. What type of clay are you using: polymer or air-dry?
@almondeastland9715
@almondeastland9715 Год назад
@@FireMountainGems Thank you for replying. I'm using Premo polymer clay. It is old, but I added clay softener and liquid Sculpey to it before using it, so it was definitely soft and sticky when I put it in the mold. Maybe I'm too slow? I'm thinking of rubbing the mold with baby oil or liquid clay before I try again. What do you think?
@almondeastland9715
@almondeastland9715 Год назад
Also, your in-house jewelry designer probably works a lot faster than I do 😄
