On April 7, 1656, Polish troops under the command of Stefan Czarniecki won a victory over Frederick Badenski's Swedish corps at the Battle of Warka. After the defeat, the Swedes fled toward Warsaw, while Badensky and his dragoons occupied Czersk. After a brief occupation, the Swedes left the castle, burning the town and destroying churches. The entire event is depicted in the impressive "Swedes at Czersk Castle" event, which we had the pleasure of visiting, at the invitation of the Dragon Company.
