Nothing but absolute respect for Brian Connolly. Very impressive performance of him, even if it is very sad to see him in bad health conditions. But he was eager to go on stage and he delivered to the crowd in a mid day concert. And they went off and showed the respect. I grew up on Sweet songs, first remembering Papa Joe, 1972, me being 9 years old. Then they appeared on German TV like "Disco" and "Musikladen" over the years. My brother and I recorded their songs on cassette from the "Hitparade" and I'm sure we had a single, maybe Ballroom Blitz or Block Buster. One of our first records. And they introduced me to Guitar Rock, even if they were damned to do Glam, which of course was brilliant.
R.I.P. Brian!!! R.I.P. Mick und Steve
Brian Connolly, the one and only. Still looked and sounded great after all happened, what a STAR! Bravo, Brian! The best! 🤩❤and miss you, Brian, Mick, Steve!
I think Brian had real guts going out and performing when he had such poor health. Shows he was a decent guy who really loved his fans, and how they loved him still. The disappointing thing was too much crowd footage and not enough Brian footage. What were the camera people thinking? RIP dear Brian (also Mick and Steve). You'll never be forgotten. 💔 We miss you!
It showed the public were into the music. And even tho' it would have been good to see more of Brian. It shows that the crowd will keep this music alive. And they still do, by going to see the existing Sweet band, to this day. Supporting on the music..
@@peterzozulak569 He could move pretty well. He leant right back till I thought he would topple but he didn't. He would have been brilliant at going under those pole things. Watched him doing the bending backwards. He had amazing strength in his legs from what I saw. And I was right under his nose in the middle at the gigs I was at. So nothing wrong with his balance there from what I was seeing of Brians balance. He had me in awe of the strength in his legs when he leant right back towards the drum kit area. I was sure he would topple over, but he never did when I would see him doing this.
❤️💙💚💙❤️💗💓💝💖🧡❣️💖
Brian was the most gorgeous man. And his health never took that away, ever. I stood under his nose at gigs. And he was still gorgeous in the years before he died.First seen and met him in the early years of Sweet.
He knows that he has been loved and is still very much loved, I have no doubt...now that he's a golden light in the wind, gentle soul, he looks at us and smiles...❤
RIP Brian. From an abandoned baby in a rough part of Glasgow, all the way to the top, that was some life journey. Sadly his demons finally caught up with him. Let’s do him the honour of remembering him in his prime, with that fantastic voice and stage presence, his image, even how he stood on the stage, he was the essence of a rock star.
Jimmy Page (guitarist) said he is the SOUND of Led Zeppelin (and I agree), and I said Brian is the SOUND of Sweet. Yeah, Brian was still kicking ass here, crowd loved him and he loved his fans. Brian and his BC's Sweet band looked and sounded so good! Also thanks to Glen, Steve, Gary, Dave ( I hope I got all the names ). Miss the 70"s so much, the best erra ! Love and miss you so much Brian, you were the best!🤩
What a band was "The Sweet" they were four fantastic musicians and all had magnificent voices had health not failed them they would have been as successful as Queen.
Back then many rock stars were professional and sang live even when their voices weren't at their best. Many of today's pop stars are whiny autotune lip sync
He was at a point here where he had overcome his addiction for alcohol and what a great performance he did here! All those numberous cardiac arrests couldn't keep him off the stage but unfortunatly that one too many got to him in the end. RIP Brian!
The love for Brian at this show is over the top, so truly deserving. This proves without any doubt in Europe Brian was truly a rock god. Thanks for the music. RIP Brian Connolly.
@michael quaglia you keep hitting the nail right on the head. I'm sitting here in awe of the love that this unbelievable crowd is showing for Brian -- o, I only hope he knew and knows now just how much he was and is loved and adored, not just for his singing talents, but for the sweet spirit he was - always gracious, always humble. So thankful for this clip, for Brian - brings me so much joy to see this. Thank you again for your heart-warming words.
@@elisasa3287 Brian was one of the true vocal gods of the '70s. Along with Freddie Mercury and David Cassidy and people like that. Look at how much everybody loves Brian. I'm having a sweet day today so I'm getting high and pulling up everything I could find by the band sweet. Cuz I love them. 😁
I saw this version of The Sweet at a Butlins venue , all pre-internet don’t forget , or pre me getting the internet , so whilst the word was out that he wasn’t in the best of health I broke my heart to see him amble on to the stage in the state he was then . However once at the mike he could still bang the songs out albeit with extra backing from the guitarists , I grew up listening to them so it was a bitter/sweet gig for me to attend but I’m glad I did.
Oh dear, Brian. This performance did you absolutely no justice. Your voice had clearly gone as you tried your best to fight your well documented and sad health issues. I loved you as the lead singer with the original Sweet line-up, when your voice and persona made you a stand-out and charismatic front man. For those early 1970's memories I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
He was one of my heros in the 70s and the sweet made me want to play in a band around 92 in england i had the pleasure to meet him thru a friend after a gig and although i was overwhelmed i came away feeling really sad brave man great performer thanks brian for all the music rip
Everybody is having such a great time. And that's all that matters. You could see how much everybody loves Brian. Just the fact that he shows up and plays those songs means so much to everybody that it's not even worth judging his vocal performance. He's alive 😁 and that's all that matters.
I know that when this concert took place, Brian was in a weakened physical state; hence the likely reason for more focus on the crowd than on him. Yet I've seen other videos of him performing in this state and in his prime; they all showed one thing in common--it was obvious that Brian loved to perform and engage the fans. This video clip proved to be no exception. Yes, I would have liked to see more of Brian than the crowd but I can sympathize with those who have known/seen him through the years. Rest in peace, Brian Francis Connolly.
Yes, Brian, in addition to heart problems, had been suffering from a left-sided hemiparesis for a few years that made him shake and fatigued him a lot. But do we care? His suffering did not really diminish him...what remains of him is the image of a kind and sensitive human being, who gave his all, a life that knew how to 'stand upright', however hard he was hit, and this, too, is beauty❤
I went to see Sweet live in Colchester in 73 really in their prime then great band live i liked the early bubblegum music but they really preferred the rock side of their music which they were great at.
I loved the sweet back in the early 70's as a teen and I'm a great granny at almost 56 and still love them- and how sad about Brian and Mick too- bless their hearts !
Even with health issues Brian was facing at the time of this concert, he gave it his all and the audience gave him lots of well-deserved love back. I admire him for not giving up and doing what he loved. Inspiration for those of us facing major health issues to NEVER give up on our dreams. I bet he's in heaven making everyone smile!
Brilliant to see Brian with his band getting a great reception and rocking out throughout his illness to the very end, what a trouper , stalwart and Super Star !!!
Such a very talented man! Had the looks! Had the image! And The Voice! Painfully the "old" drink destroyed Brian To die at 50/51 is ABSOLUTELY no age! I hope your peace Brian! YOU TRULY where an Amazing Artist.
Well... I don't think it was the drink that killed him. Yes, he had a drinking period after Sweet, but cardiac trouble made him quit drinking. Then later on, after ending up in hospital with pneumonia, he got septicemia, developed a tremor - and plenty of people he figured he was drinking again.
@@Bietel Brian had multiple heart attacks caused by excess drinking. He drank to excess in the couple of years after he left Sweet. Became very bloated because of it,was warned by a few different doctors to stop drinking, didn't do so and had his heart attacks. There's an interview on here where Brian talks of this if you can find it. That would also be the cause of the later tremors and sadly his death years later
Honestly, I appreciate the fact that he still got up there to do what he loved, even in that condition, which couldn't be easy. And to think he would have only been in his mid-forties here 🙄 But I'm happy to see such a huge crowd showing him love in return 🙂
So great to see the crowd going wild for beautiful Brian, it must have made him feel so appreciated, after the way he'd been treated by Andy and Steve.
I know people would rather see the band than the audience but honestly I think it's fun to see myself and my sister down front and how we looked in the early 90's. Brian couldn't sing anymore he screamed out the songs but who cared this was Brian and he was trying his best and he wasn't well that was plain.
I went the same, thats thing about glam bands, they aimed 4 a certain age group, but as 1 we grew up,and went to different kinds of music-heavy ,or progg music, all was great tho
+Petra Ducksch Hallo Petra..!

Damn, poor fellow, the rock'n roll life wasn't good to him. You can't help feeling sorry for mr Connolly. But they were great back then in their genre. Made some great rock, and mr Connolly had one of the best voices .
@IT'SME yes..that contributed to his final years .but his voice failure was from when he was attacked outside pub...he never could regain it .. it saddens me tremendously.
Went to see Brian's Sweet when he played in Melbourne. So sad to see Brian in the condition he was in yet, so happy to hear and see him perform one last time. The band essentially carried him through the set.

Are we looking at the same show here.........as much as I respect Brian for what he did in the 70's.......lets face it this is a bloody disgrace and i'm not just talking Brian but that whole band is fucking blasphemy........my opinion...
+redrheino I have to agree with you. I loved the Sweet in the 70's but Brian was already a zombie at this point, and backed by a shit band! This was pointless.
I think the crowd had so much fun because they still loved him so much that they weren't even bothered by the poor quality voice Brian had in this concert, in comparison to 15 years ago:( But it's impossible to not keep loving him. He was one of the greatest rock voices in history and people will remember him as such, regardless all the issues he had later on...
@@twelveytwelve I've seen other videos of Brian performing not looking well and in his prime. I can sympathize. These videos all have one thing in common: It was obvious that Brian loved performing and engaging the fans. From what I saw, this video was no exception.
Each heart attack, 12 in close proximity Bryan says. Each 1 it's known, leaves its damage to heart. Poor Brian, took his over-prescribed medication like his dr. said. A diuretic drug that extracts fluid, more urination. Will cause dehydration in excess. I can't help but wonder who that doctor prescribing was. Diuretics are commonly prescribed in a population. Drugs being prescribed accord to each patient's weight, nothing difficult establishing correct dose. It means that trained Chemist has "prepared" that amount dose mgs. Chemists are fully aware of the incidence & dangers of hand-written pen prescriptions being misread by chemists in the mgs. & is corrected by contacting that prescribing dr. for clarification. If dose suited to a very heavy or obese person so wasn't questioned. Patient per script unknown to them. If was mg. dose excess for any human, Chemist would seek clarification to that patient's Dr. to avoid any consequential over-dosing. Can't help but wonder if mischief or prof. negligence occurred by one or the other. It happens. Script would be non-existent at this time even if computer filed then. Over-prescribed drugs aren't often realised until patient in consequence of it is presented to a hospital. You can be sure an excess dehydraating diuretic would induce a heart attack & other internal organs suffering dehydration. Tragic Brian taking his tablets dilligently to dr's instructions. With tragic consequences.
@@dragonenglish1014 Really? You are entitled to your opinion but this shows some of the band and you can hear them throughout. You don’t have to watch if it bothers you.
