I've had two original ones for decades. I love that they trigger off audio, tape, microphones with almost no delay. And sonically there is good as any modular synth I've owned: definitely better than all the Simmons and other drum.pad sources of the time. They are just incredible boxes.
If in the eurorack domain, a cost effective option is the Michigan Synths SY0.5 clone. Obviously only if you're already down that rabbit hole, because going down it to begin with certainly isn't cost effective ha.
N what way does it have the edge? Is it a sound quality thing or build quality as I have the original but still feel like I would use the new one more for quality of life reasons thanks😎
have you ever tried using a Kenton midi to cv converter. the cv can change the pitch so you can use it a monosynth with midi? I always wanted to try it with mine. I like to use a delay so you can pull the volume then change the pitch and bring it back up..so you can play notes like an instrument without it sounding like a theramin...LOL
I haven't. I have looked at getting one for my MonoPoly but thought that I would just hold out and get it fitted with MIDI. I'll have to check the Kentons out again though.
I starting really liking this synth ever since I found out a band I like (mindflayer) uses one and they get super unique sounds with it. I wish there was an affordable clone but the cheapest one i found was 400 and i dont have enough. are there any good alternatives or other clones?
I think $400 is about the cheapest you will find. I think it's a great instrument but for $400 I think there are more out there that will give you more bang for your buck.
I have seen some on Reverb (I just checked before making the video) but yeah they're few and far between. It's a really fun build but I still think you can get more bang for your buck from a number of other synths.
There isn't much to the original so I'm sure it will get you pretty close and for a cheap price. I'm not mad at them releasing this clone since it hasn't been produced for some years other than smaller companies making clones or Modular units.
