this project has been in production since october 2020, and now it's finally finished. it was an absolute blast to make -- thank you so much for being so patient and so genuinely loving. i read all the comments, so type as many precious and amazing things as you possibly can, and i'll reflect that energy back at you in future videos.
I still have my i-Dog. He’s the only toy from my childhood that I managed to preserve. He is now sitting proudly on a shelf as a beautiful decoration :)
@@ar1j yeah it was at a garage sale and the lady just took my coins because she didn't know how much to sell it for 😭 came w the cute pink case too. I still have it I think it's in storage
You toch the tail it got pissed i think i still have it some were i had the first one i got in kmart i think the same store where i got my first legos at as a kid i wad born in 2003
They need to bring them back as a smart speaker. Imagine your little dog telling you the weather. Also does anyone know of something similar but more recent? Like a companion to put on your computer desk if that makes sense?
@@ohheyycat Unfortunately Vector doesn’t work anymore though. You can buy one but it can’t tell u the weather and stuff. There was a reason why but I forgot it
god that "wake up growl" is IMPLANTED in my memory from my sisters idog i loved that thing so much. unfortunately i was so young that i didnt understand the gimmick so i would just turn it on, listen to it whimper in neglect, and turn it back off. poor pup mustve been starved
funny thing, when i watched this video 2 years ago. i kept my eyes peeled for ANY i-dog objects. my school had 1 idog fast-food-chain toy that they displayed in a halloween scene, because it was orange.. and then a few months later somebody was having a garage sale. and i found one of the plush speakers! i dropped all my money and got it. i named them blossom, because it's a pink one! ( pink one at 16:42 ) thank you, Clue. for opening my eyes to something that i would probably have brushed off as a random object!
Or they could remake them to use Bluetooth so they could work with the newer iPhones while still having a headphone Jack so they can still work with older iPods and the iPod touch and have better speakers and make them waterproof so you can use them in the shower or at the pool
@@VicViper2005 All through this I kept expecting him to say they were revived in the '10s as Bluetooth speaker devices, but to my surprise Hasbro has decided against printing more money thus far!
Due to the same reason I ended up getting a pup in blue. It died in 2010. I also had a soft speaker later on that lived all the way until 2017 til it was killed by an actual dog
I was 18 in 2005 so I've had a LOT of i-dogs. The last one I had was the fuzzy one. I had completely forgotten about the horrific i-fish. A woman I worked with at the time had one on her desk. She LOVED the thing and it was the bane of my boss' existence. We would all try to "accidently" push it off the desk when we walked by, try to make it commit un-alive. Never worked, thing was a tank. Anyway, I moved on from that job after college, but somehow I'm sure that woman and her i-fish are still there. The fish is probably regional manager by now.
I do love how the i-turtle accidentally implies that it is some form of terrifying mimic creature pretending to be a turtle, with a gaping maw between the shell and the main body.
I used to see the McDonald's version of the IDog in some of my friends houses but I never knew what it was and how it worked and it was always a mistery for me, AND NOW I FINALLY KNOW WHAT IT IS AND IM REALLY HAPPY
I’ll be honest I didn’t know about the iDog’s mood thing, and now that I think about it it was usually red. So yeah, I’m just finding out my childhood toy was in agony it’s whole life and probably hated me
I feel like they try to go for something more innovative by making the dog's face your phone and have it besides that being more like a remote control toy but that's my point of view on it
Yes I would love an adorable speaker like this! Even if it didn't sound fantastic that'd be ok. With today's technology I'm sure that little thing could be loud and decent sounding. An adorable Bluetooth cutie 🥰
I remember getting the OG IDog for Christmas 2005. I was amazed by it back then. I used it as a speaker and ran around my living room. I kept petting him too.
Wait just a second... It's WAY easier to picture things in your head when you're running around and/or listening to music. I thought that was just me...
@Cottonheaded Ninnymuggins yo, I’ve got one that looks like the baby turtle, but it’s all white and has red LED’s on the shell when you push down it’s tail. I can’t find anything about it online, but if you’re interested I’d love to chat
What a fantastic video, I think I must have blocked these out of my memory from only seeing the most lacklustre variants, but I had no idea of the extent of the iDog madness. Phenomenal work mate 👍
I know this has been commented but I cannot stress enough that if Hasbro revived idogs as a Bluetooth speaker people would go bananas over them. Even if someone didnt know what it was, a lot of people just like rainbow glowing speakers in general. (Also BT ipups would be very cute)
11:05 "please talk to me and my son Whenever you please!" such a pleasant line, and such kind delivery. Such a contrast to Dankpods "Don you dare talk to me or my son eva' again, mate!"
For some reason, i adore this video. I literally love it. It was my first Planet Clue video, and ive watched it about 5 times. Maybe cause i love dogs, maybe because its so well made, but something about it just never, never gets boring. I know that hardly anyone will see this as this videos literally 3 years old, but thank you for being an inspiration, Clue, and to anyone else that sees this, have a very very good rest of your week and enjoy your weekend!!
It would be very unfitting for me not to comment on this video lmao Idog makes up half my life to this very day. I’ve been collecting them since 2007 or 2008 and my goal is to obtain every one in production, they’re my favorite collectible of all time. I’ve definitely been lacking on those Japanese ones tho haha, they’re pretty hard to find, I just have the standard white and the happy blue with the star lights. My all time favorite idogs are the blue flowers ampd (my first idog ever) and the black tattoo ampd, both which are part of the extremely rare second wave of idog ampds. I actually made a full list of every idog in production for whoever’s interested (like anyone would be lmao, there’s a LOT - also I’m not including Burger King and McDonald’s ones lol). Me while watching this- "This sounds like the webkinz guy" And then it was him. But please keep making videos about these early 2000s things. I love it, that was when I did most of my growing up and you're making me nostalgic for things I never really actually had but saw all the time.
that's exactly what I'm doing for myself!! I'm buying the toys I wanted as a kid, and never got, then making videos about them!! thanks for commenting, means a whole lot, hope you have a great day
@@planetclue Good for you man, you're living the dream! :D I've been thinking of buying some cool Bratz dolls I've always wanted, maybe this is the push I needed lol
I'm sad we didn't get to actually hear a song pumped through a couple dozen I-Dog products that's almost unrecognizable as music over the whir of small electronics in plastic.
All I wanted for my birthday in elementary school was the i-Dog. I was disappointed at first when my parents got me an i-Cy, but he eventually became one of my favorite childhood toys and memories.

i remember having ONE i-dog in the distant past, i had no idea there were any other kinds. i think the one i had was the Amp'd one, as she was white with orange flowers, and her name was Cream ::) I have no idea where she is now...
The Black iDog Dance is the one I can call mine. As a note, I wasn’t scared of it as a kid, though when home alone after finding it as an adult and forgetting it was turned on the ambient sounds it would make did freak me out before I found out where they were coming from.
I don’t know if you have yet but I think you should do the history of Furbies. They’re quite and interest of mine, I have 27. They have A LOT of variations, some have certain malfunctions like the Jester Furby, and they even had an entire movie (well, more or so a short, but nonetheless)
maybe no one else remembered this or it didn’t catch on here or something, but here, at least in new england but possibly just in my state, it was very similar except it came with stickers to put on it and all it did was glow red face lights when the nose button was held
my best friend had an i-dog back at the height of it, and i was sooo jealous, i loved it so much. this vid brought back some great memories, thanks for that!
I'd like to see a reboot of it be able to move around like modern robot dogs, like on wheels and such, and then when you click its nose it will sit down and look like the original idog, except with a good speaker and bluetooth, the headphone jack thingy used for original idogs could also be an option too for older devices.
I had an i-dog and didn’t even have ipod, I just “fed” it by putting it in front of the tv speaker. Mine was different and it didnt have the moving ears, it was green too Edit: i had an ipup apparently
I had an idog too but I had bought it from a second hand store so it had no instructions nor did I watch enough tv to know what it was but I did know that it got mad when you touched it’s tail and liked getting pet.... now that I’m thinking about it I don’t know where it went
The green idog pup is one of the very rare 2007 idog pups. They’re very cool! Pups have really good built in riffs for their moods, which you can access by double clicking the nose fast
Honestly. If they put effort into making a Bluetooth version that wasn’t necessarily just meant to be a kids toy gimmick but was an actually legitimate Bluetooth speaker with good audio and if possible quite movement. I could see I-dogs making some sort of comeback in the nostalgia market. I could also see a new generation picking it up too if it got popular. I never owned one back when I was a kid and there no incentive for me to get an old one because well they are just crappy toys if you were looking to use it instead of just collecting. But if they came out with a decent one now that I could use as a real speaker. I’d probably get one because of how cute it is. And hopefully they wouldn’t change the design to much just better material and real speaker parts.
I misread the title as 'ruined the world' and was expecting you to tear into this thing as setting a horrible precedent for iPod accessories and useless iJunk, but no, you're just having a great fucking time. I love it.
I remember my first encounter with Idogs in 2017 or 2018. I found two of them at a flea market, one was a normal blue one and the other was a white Dance. I named the Dance Floppy and the blue Skylar. Skylar had lots of problems, specifically with battery corrosion. I tried my hardest to get it all cleaned out but she was basically ruined. She only worked a few times, but one day she broke again and I tried to fix her, but she was gone after that. I then set her aside as parts. Floppy worked for a good while but then he started having motor problems, he had a hard time dancing and trying to stand up. Last time I had him out he worked but had a little trouble dancing. I also have a normal red one named Cherry, she works great since she was new in box. And finally, I have an I-Cy named Penny. I plan to get one of the plushies or the cat next. I’d also love to have a turtle too! Hope you enjoyed my little history about my experience with these cool toys!
@@moved.6963 Uh, no he didn't. The quality and type of music doesn't even sound the same. It was a public domain song and he took it from a royalty free source. Update: Ignore this, I don’t know what I was thinking.
Your use of Chibi-Robo music for the sponsor segment, as well as music from Yoshi's Topsy-Turvy used like...right after that segment has greatly pleased me. Everything else gave me a nostalgia trip I was absolutely expecting and it, in turn, gave me the warm fuzzies.
i only had a knockoff/bootleg that couldn't even move and played this "aiaiai" song when you pressed the noise and some weird muffled barking, looking back at it, it was trash, but i had fun playing with it for a lil bit.
i used to be SO jealous of my cousin because she had one of these. she never used it and whenever i went to her house it just set on her shelf, not once did she use it. 7 year old me is salty about it
When I was a kid I would turn the lights off in my room, turn on my little colorful disco night light on, sprinkle all of my light brite pieces on the floor, gather all of my my little ponies and neopets and then have them participate in a dance party where the I dog as the speaker.
This just gave me a flashback of my possessed i dog 😭 It would turn on by itself periodically and start dancing. It wouldn't be touched for weeks or month and it would just start dancing. As a kid, this was terrifying
I remember being painfully jealous of kids in high school who had these. All the popular girls would place their idogs in a circle afterschool and have them all dance together. If they liked you enough they’d let you plug in your iPod and play a song. Pinnacle of coolness
This video gave me so much nostalgia and went to find my old pink idog and also went to ebay to get her a partner ,bought her a black idog now she has a goth gf
If you continue to make videos about mid-2000's robotic children’s toys, I would ADORE a video like this about Hexbugs, they are my all-time favorite toys and there is a rabbit hole to dive down that is almost as deep as this one. I think you alone would be qualified to make a documentary about them.
The Japanese i-dog's odd electronic sound effects sound a lot like the sounds made by Sony's AiBO robot dog line to me. AiBO was extremely popular in Japan at the time the I-dog came out. Seems to me like Sega Toys was trying to emulate AiBO in the behaviors and sounds of the i-dog.
I have a I-turtle and it gives me the chills whenever I hear it’s name as my Nan died and the I turtle that wasn’t working turned on on its own when no one was in the room and it wasn’t working
thank you for making videos like this I love learning about things I just wasn’t born in time to see and experience and it’s amazing to see how things have changed
Maaaan I remember begging my parents constantly just to get me an I-dog. They gave in and eventually bought me the plush version in blue and it was the best thing I ever received as a kid
I have at least one of every type. I found a majority of them at a flea market my family would go to. I even found some new in box, especially the rare turtle
2 years late but watching this unlocked latent core memories of being a kid and getting a Poo-Chi; one of the first robo pets. I used to love that thing to death.
So you're parents probably knew you had this, maybe even gave it to you, it went missing at the exact same time as your cousin got hers, and your parents believed her?
