...that she walked a thousand times before. That's a subtlety not everyone talks about. No matter what she was doing out there she had a right to live. Life just didn't give our poor girl Jenny much of a chance.
the tale of jenny is based from a newspaper article, then ren's brilliantly twisted mind conjured up screech, and two years later he completed the circle with violet.
Yes, this is heartbreaking. He gives us a bit of a hint with the musical intro to Jenny's Tale; quite a few reactors have mentioned it sounds like a Christmas song (I think it's God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen). I think maybe Ren did this on purpose, to help conjure an image of winter. He adds to this when he's looking all around while singing Jenny's part, reinforcing the idea that Jenny is one of the invisible people of the night, probably a sex worker. Finding out that she too is only 14? Gut wrenching
I have heard a couple of reactions pick up that Jenny might have been homeless and living on the streets and speculated she might have been a sex worker, but even those were so shocked by the twins revelation that they didn’t go back to make the connection that Jenny was the same age as Screach while doing that. The other bit that might be wrong, but I think is hinted at (based on the ‘Screech Instagram’ video Ren made to promote the release of Screech’s tale, is that the reason Patrick probably isn’t in, and why his girlfriend is “busy” are the same reason…and probably because Screech had been awful to both of them…you reap what you sow- more of the terrible cycle of tragedy.
@@sputukgmail Also these lyrics seem to refer to the connection twins have. "As Jenny walked home all alone She felt scared Usually she was alright but it was like There was something in the air A divine intervention telling her to beware? Or maybe intuition bugging her and Making her so scared?"
Right at the beginning he reveals that Screech's real name is James. James and Jenny, twin names. The Tale of Screech sounds like a wailing baby. He's lashing out in confusion and fear because he never knew love. Patrick and Screech's girlfriend are both busy at the same time. Ren confirmed that they're together behind Screech's back. I love the way he uses the music to accentuate the story, and the scene where he looks up into the stairwell is a perfect use of the environment for resonance as well as a symbol. It's as if he's looking up and asking, "Where is God?"
Another thing I'd picked up on (after about 30 viewings) that I've not heard anyone else comment, is that Jenny was feeling very uneasy just before she met Screech, there is much spoken in articles, about a psychic link between twins. I wonder if Jenny was feeling it's effects for the first time when Screech was close, but didn't know what it was, which added to her stiffness? Maybe Screech felt it too, and also didn't know what it was, which added to his confusion and anger. Who know with Ren, I wouldn't put it past him to have considered this when writing it, especially as he mentions Jenny's state of mind at the beginning... Its like peeling an onion... I mean the layers, not the tears 🙂
@@chrisparti I've often wondered if its possible Jenny was a sex worker. Its not directly implied but she's 14 y.o in high heels, walking the streets late at night that she'd walked a thousand times before. So many layers like you say...
Ah I had speculated that Patrick and his girlfriend were ‘busy’ together after watching the Screech Instagram video but I hadn’t heard Ren had confirmed that was intended. Thanks for sharing that - I feel smart now :)
I heard a number of years ago the quote "Hurt people hurt people." I have since added that "Healed people heal people." There is hope! These cycles can be broken.
This is a lyrical masterpiece. The trilogy has all the elements of a good story. Starts by painting a picture of Jenny, a girl who wears high heel shoes and rosie on her cheeks looking to escape. Then he starts Screech's tale by sayin the story starts right at the end, because the story of Screech is the last story of the three chronologically. When Screech's tale ends he says the story ends right at the start, with the image of Jenny ans Screech lying side by side. Foreshadowing to the end of Violet's tale with the twins lying side by side, when the entire tale is wrapped with a nice little bow
@@Alan_Duval the bardcore "genre" is completely different (just check the channel of "Hildegard von Blingin"), although the musical medieval hint we get in the opening of Violet's tale is beautiful and so beautifully haunting. However, he is a true modern bard for sure.
He tells the stories and the filming of the stories are all done so well i found myself looking for the bodies laying on the ground. The saddest thing about this is the fact each of these things are happening in every town, city, and country at this very moment and the cycle continues
A interactive concert version had Jenny's crime scene, she was laying on the ground as the crowd went to where Screech was set and he did the trilogy with added perspective of Richard
@@666t I saw that video, it was pretty convincing. I hope nobody was traumatized and everybody "got" the art of it. If you lined up for a Ren concert though I have to imagine you know what you are in for.
@@IamAGrizzly Not sure if you found it by now and I'm so sorry for taking so long, but I think this is the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-m2OFW8Q0AqY.html
I’m currently at a Ren reaction video binge and watched probably over 100 of those. I gotta say yours are of the best. They are very natural and relatable. Love what your doing and you keep being you! I’ve been a fan of Ren for over 2 years now. All there 2 years I’ve been telling everybody that they got to listen to him, that his different. It’s sooo good to see he finally gets the attention he deserves. It’s almost like seeing my own kid succeed for me. That truly selfless feeling of joy for someone elses success. Ren makes us to be kinder human beings :)
He transports me with his music. Writing, playing and performing. That guitar became a gun. He is so smart and talented. He’s also a great actor. I’m a fan.
And if you noticed the first line of the second verse was, "Violet was a silent girl, grew up with violent starts" The name Violet is just an "N" away from Violent. It's crazy how deep his lyrics are. Awesome reaction as always.
He's a bard. It's as easy as that. A true artist. Almost no one these days can tell a story through song, and almost each and every one of his songs is exactly that, a story. Even when he branches out into different genres, it's still a story.
“Oh you sweet summer child” 🤣🤣🤣 Needed that! I’ve watched too many reactions of this and it still gets to me everytime! So thanks for that laugh intermission.
Btw Chinchilla's solo work is 🔥 as well. Add the live version of "fingers" and her newest "Little girl lost" should you be looking for a new don't mess with me anthem!
Yes! I just did a reaction to "Little Girl Lost." Need to "edit" (aka chop off the awkward beginning and end parts and make a thumbnail) it and throw it up here for you all. It was pretty short and sweet. I heard it in an ADHD reel the other day and was SO pumped about her getting her name and music out there!!!
Thank you for another genuine, honest, and heartfelt reaction. I also appreciate your vulnerability and your willingness to share some of your own story. I include you in my daily prayers. God bless you and your loved ones.
In his Live shows he goes into more detail... like Jenny being a street walker, getting stopped by the cop Richard! Also... Patrick doesn't answer because he's Busy with his girl... the one he calls, being told she's Busy! He catches them... flips out... kills Jenny, then gets himeslf killed by the Cop, Richard, that his girl called when she got caught with Patrick! There's more... but I'll save that... as I see him making part 4... Richard's Tale! Maybe... Perhaps!?!
So glad you are still here and making reactions. I learn so much from channels like yours. I'm so lucky to not have chronic illnesses or mental health issues, but even I suffered some childhood traumas that I never realised were impacting my ability to remain in relationships, not until I reached my 60's. I'm now working through the aspects of myself that have been suppressed all those years. Wishing you all the best in your fight for better health! 💖
I'm sorry to hear that. I'm glad you were able to identify them and start working on them though. That isn't easy to do at any age. Sending lots of love and hugs to you. I'm also so sorry for the late response. I'm very behind on comments 😅
Interesting that you have a degree in criminal justice. One of my 3 best friends has one from College of DuPage. I met him shortly after leaving Schaumburg and heading back to Wisconsin from Illinois in 2009. Another great reaction, thank you Tanya! You have a wonderful understanding of the transgenerational cycle of violence that Ren is calling attention to in this trilogy. More Ren - Down with CNN!
Watching your face during Violet’s tale I felt every second. Ren’s storytelling skills are magical. The 360 version of this is worth watching (even if only in your own time). Use a compatible device (like a tablet or phone) and you can turn around to look at the audience as they sing along.
I totally agree with this comment, but would add one thing. If you do watch it, when they are first at the gig, spin the camera 90 degrees to the right, and upward, because Ren initially appears on the roof-top to the right of the stage to address the crowd before he starts the trilogy... I also love the part when he asks the crowd if any of them know the words... 😆
My first reaction video was TRAAAAAAAAASH with the audio. So I'm trying super hard to get better. I will admit, audio is incredibly hard for me and I'm still not quite sure what I'm doing. 😅
Ren call this style Bardcore and here's the origin story of the trilogy 🤩😁🤯 This wasn't originally a trilogy story. Ren read in the paper one day with a small article about a 14 yr old boy killing a young prostitute in an attempted robbery and then being shot and killed by the police later that evening. It disturbed him, so he set out to write a commentary on not just senseless violence, but on how desensitized we are in today's society. This wasn't big news, it wasn't even front page, being buried somewhere 0n pg.6 or 7. The main example of this is in the words he ends both Jenny and Screech's Tales with "It's such a Shame". We say these words all to often and just move on without a second thought. The article quoted the lead inspector at the scene say " So Young, Its such a shame" shaking his head, he walked away. Violets Tale was written over 2 years later adding another layer of commentary by Ren. Not only generational violence but making us think of how both these lives be so cursed. Born out of violence on the same day and then both killed with brutal violence on the same night. Also, his lyrics have multiple meanings if read in between the lines you'll more then likely hear something that'll make you think. Here's an example of things that made me go Hmm...🤔🤔 Example: Jenny has the same traits as her mother Violet, quiet, voiceless, and timid. Where as Screech mirrors his father Stevie in every way, Loud, obnoxious, and easily prone & provoked to violence. They didn't know one another and had never met their biological parents. Yet, what made these kids so much like their parents? Was it simply Nature, inherited traits in their genetic make-up or Nurture, being brought up in the broken system of broken children? Love your channel, Cheers 🥂
Thank you for taking the time to share all of this. I truly love reading the wealth of knowledge you all have to share with me. It's really not easy to break those ingrained/inherited traits. I fully believe that babies pick up emotions/stress/etc while in utero. So those poor babies were being flooded with cortisol and stress, hearing the screaming and the beatings Violet endured... I'm sure it didn't help them any as they were growing in her belly.
As you've already seen in the comments, those of us who know what's coming in this trilogy care about the well-being of reactors we've gotten to know. In a sense, maybe we've "got your back" by offering support and empathy in our comments. Take care, dear lady...
If you want to try something light hearted and fun after that have a look at Ren with his band The Big Push doing Bongo Bong. Edit: Nevermind, I have the memory of a goldfish!!!
I also have the memory of a goldfish so no worries! LOL. Also like two months behind on comments so apologies if you're like WTF are you talking about crazy lady? HAHA. 😅
They are. He is a true true artist. I think his background as a busker (street performer) has helped with his ability to do so. All live, uncut and one take (sometimes the final video may be a 3rd or 4th try for him to be really happy with it)
Thank you for your great reaction to this story. The way you grow up and your history tends to repeat. That's what this story is about. Ren doing this live, walking around is better than anyone. Cheers 🍻
Lol - yep, I’ve said that while watching so many reactions. Jenny’s tale is tragic - Screech is dramatic but it kinda feels like karma - but no one is ready for Violets Tale… (On a related note, it’s frustrating when other reactors completely miss important bits on Violets tale - sometimes even missing the names and significance at the end)
Another heavy song I'd like to see after "Humble" is "Dominos". I wonder , given the topic, if you think the issue was more of an issue when you were growing up or if you think it's ten times worse nowadays than when you were younger
Still working on getting to these songs! I promise! I'm sorry I'm so slow and so sorry on the delay in responding. I think the issues were always there. I think it's more openly talked about now. And there are more people in the world so it makes it a little more "visible" or harder to "ignore" in a sense.
Thank you for this reaction, as always. IMO it's the struggle of street life. It's a story of that. I've never been there, but I know people that were - and have been close to them. I could dissect this forever, but fuck man, it's hard/difficult to explain.
I am so sorry you have endured such horrible traumas. I am sending you lots of love, positivity, healing vibes, and hugs. ❤🤗Even if we've healed from the traumas, the scars still remain. And the pain - whether emotional, mental, or even still physical - can still exist with those scars.
yes - you make an important point about compatibility with therapists there. Because the issues and treatments are sooooo personal and individual it's almost like dating: they may look great on paper but if there is no chemistry in person then nothing much happens. If you are seeing a therapost and you don't feel comfortable or that it's at all effective it's vitally important that you all know that IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT. It's not the therapist fault either. Sometimes two people just don't mesh. You have to be willing and able to pull the plug and start over with a different therapist. One or two or N experiences with ineffective therapists does NOT necessarily mean that therapy cannot help you. It quite likely that it can, you just haven't found the right match yet.
This world is a much better place with you in it. You introduced me to REN... and I needed that so bad.... thank you for being around and doing this. Keep going !!
I just gotta say, I've watched a few of your reactions now, and you've shared some of your experiences in those reactions. I know everyone has a different perspective, but for me, it's amazing how strong of a light you radiate in your compassion, sadness, empathy and hope. I'm guessing that's not always how it feels on your inside, but I wanted to share how much hope and light you convey (to me) through your reactions. Thank you
Glad to see your back, we have missed that infectious laugh that can brighten any room. There is a Welsh guy called prof Nic you should have a peek at especially the book review of the boy and the mole. When your able to do a review we’ll be here ❤
I have watched SO MANY reaction videos since I saw Hi Ren, and I actually prefer the pause and talk vs waiting till the end - PS You're amazing and I love you!
I appreciate your feedback! I've gotten a lot of mixed reactions - some people like that I wait and some have expressed they dislike it. I'm not quite sure which I prefer yet. You're amazing, and I LOVE YOU! ❤🤗
Great reaction Tanya! I loved the message added in at 13:33... knowing the story already, I was literally thinking something just like that. If Ren is a bard, this definitely counts as a tragedy.
It looked like you stopped breathing for like 85% of Violette's tale 😅 and that caption you put up when talking about screech lol. Great reaction and such a crazy twist hey...
Thank you! Yea, my body was completely phased into a different plane of existence where I just didn't need oxygen apparently 😂 For Screech, I guess it was some crazy intuition or something there. Or just a wild lucky guess. I absolutely was not ready for that twist and my brain NOPED out of there. LOL. I appreciate you! Sending love and hugs 🤗❤
The reason I get teary and emo when I hear his work is because I understand enough about the world (at 52) to know that the attrocoties he sings of will never cease as these scenarios are simply the fallout of 'the system' that must maintain control and order. His talent is beautiful, even inspiring, but ultimately a waste, as the glass ceiling's that WE the worker bee's relentlessly try to smash through are false fairytale aspirations that no march or petition will ever be able to change. My advice, after stress/heart problems at age 35, is live life like a game, ie. enjoy it, love everyone untill they prove otherwise, and see money for what it is, an object of control and addiction.
I felt this. I cry about this exact thing an awful lot, too. I would love nothing more than to change the world for the better and I haven’t the slightest clue how to do it. This channel was the first step I suppose. I do like a good game 🤣 Sending much love and hugs to you 🫂❤️I appreciate you.
Great video, love your reactions, just a heads up for the controls, you can use the arrow keys to go back or forth 5 seconds and the spacebar to pause or you can use j and l for 10 seconds back or forth and k to pause :)k
I went through Shadow therapy for several years and it was the best thing that I have ever done. I'm so happy that you are here with us! And thank you for exposing yourself to us it is very healthy for all! Healing is always a journey rather than a confirmable destination. Many blessings to you and yours🌿💔
I've been debating doing some shadow therapy. I bought a little book to start doing it. I need more time in the day 😅 Sending many blessings to you and yours as well! ❤
@@TachyTanya when I did this Shadow work I started off reading books primary Carl Jung it was interesting in the things I could use initially I liked so I went in had professional guidance it was truly a phenomenal experience but it wasn't easy but worth it🌿💔
Violence in the family is behavior that is learned and repeated. The double tragedy is that only the father (if the violent one) is punished for the behavior, but the mother (if the violent one) is never punished. The children learn the behavior from the parents, and then repeat it. That's why spousal abuse will never be stopped if you don't address both sides of the problem. That's the true tragedy.
This is just my opinion, but I think there’s such a big stigma that a man is weak if a woman is beating on him so it’s common for a man to not even say anything. It is just as wrong and should be punished in the same ways as a man would be if hitting a woman.
I came across your channel randomly and am looking at every video atm. Regardless of who subs or doesn't just know I think you're amazing and fk everyone else. Love from Scotland ❤❤
so fun fact about this trilogy like Hi Ren the 3 videos are done live and 1 takes. violet as you guessed was the mother who died in 2005 when the 2 twins were born and then the twins were both 14 in the jenny and screech parts
Ren is a genius....so much talent that it is honestly astounding. I loved your reaction.....You really should check out more Ren. I have not looked at your page.....but NF is another artist that speaks on mental health issues in a way that really touches my soul. I look forward to more of your reactions !!!
I watched my first NF video after this one. I have to re-record the ending of the reaction because it broke me. 😬 Hopefully I'll have that one finished up here soon. Thank you for your support! I appreciate you! ❤🤗
@@TachyTanya I have been checking since I saw this message last night....I can not wait to see your reaction. In my mind I think maybe you watched "How could you leave us" since it broke you....but so many of NF's songs hit hard so I am not sure. He has so many great songs "The Search".."When I grow Up"..."Mansion".."Time"..."If you want love"..."Let you down" . His newest album which just came out is just full of Hope...which is the title of it also...lol. "Mama"...."Careful"..."happy"....so many great songs ahead for you....I will be watching !!!
Tanya, where would we be without our trauma? Someplace else, I guess. Thanks for telling us some of your story. I'm sure it helps a lot of people who don't have a voice.
It gets worse every time I watch this knowing Screech is going to kill his twin sister at the end. The tears is floooding in my eyes more every time. You should watch the interview with Knox Hill. We need to learn alot from that.
I LOVE you reactions Tanya. sorry I somehow did not subscribe yet, repaired it right now. I feel I already know your non-verbal communication so well that I'm having full blown conversations with you when you say nothing. During the whole sequence of complete silence during Violet's tale you were just screaming to me. And I was also screaming NO NO NO NO NO when I heard "two twins..." for the first time.
