It actually would be a good idea I have seen SOOO many ppl especially kids about to go to college who avoid this stuff because of all the horror videos from movies or the made up stories ppl do to seem cool. My niece flat out bias asked to join a wonderful house because she was exactly what they were all about (she was in the same classes as three members who became her friends) and she literally AVOIDED it and them for the rest of the year because she believed all the bad hype. Sadly I live in Maine and she in Cali and I had no idea she thought this until my sister in law admitted to me she wanted to move back home to live to avoid them as much as possible. So as much good and true info we can get out there about how wonderful these groups and how they can help you even afterwards of your college years for friendships and support I believe would be a great thing.

Sororities are a lot of work, and it totally depends on the college you go to and how seriously people take their sorority. There are real life scenarios where it is like the movies but absolutely that is a rare thing it’s not the norm.

Please explain everything! I know nothing about sororities because they aren’t much of a thing where I live.

I heard a story the other day of this woman who got rejected from her top 3 sororities… it damaged her emotionally so bad from rejection that she turned to drugs… she ended up finding Jesus but still that’s sad!

They have dormers on suicide watch during recruitment or whatever it’s called. A lot of girls take this very seriously, getting in the same sorority as their mothers, friends etc is life or death to them. It’s sad.

No. No no no no. Absolutely not. That is not why she "turned to drugs" Jesus christ that is so offensive to addicts

So what happens when you graduate? The post are saying people were in a sorority. You are still a member once you graduate, right? Just curious.
@MichellePonceMazuros
@MichellePonceMazuros Год назад
Once you graduate you become and Alumna member and you remain an Alumna member until you pass away. For example, I was Initiated in 1989 and graduated in 1991. In the years after I graduated I have remained active in my sorority, as a volunteer supporting collegiate chapters.

That’s awesome - I got hazed for 8 weeks though.

Where did you go? I literally haven’t heard of hazing in any sororities from my time on only the frats. I actually have watched the hazing as I was a gf and I was staying over that night & the presidents gf was my roommate so they were ok to do it w/ us in the house. None of our sororities did it tho.

@@Grayyy__ I was in Delta Phi Epsilon at SUNY Oswego. They no longer haze due to the fact a few years after I graduated they were turned in for hazing. So I know they couldn’t Rush for a few semesters!! Hazings not as common anymore. My hazing was hell. And it wasn’t just 2 weeks, 4 weeks or 6 weeks - 8 WEEKS!! Anxiety risen hell!! I pledged in the Fall of 2008. When it was my turn to haze girls, I never did. I never saw fun in it, and I never saw the point. I chose to teach the girls about the sorority sister who lost her life. That was more important to me. She was what I wanted them to remember. I always remembered the girls who hazed me the most. I always remembered that feeling of fear to be seen everywhere I went. That fear to eat. That fear to go to class. That fear to sleep. That fear that distracted me from studying and got my GPA down so low I ended up failing out my second semester and had to work my ass off to get back in and graduate. Thank God I graduated. But I did become inactive in order to do so. I was associated with everyone, I hung out with everyone, I still took in a little, and all the sorority fundraisers and girls nights/events. But I never wanted to be required to “show face” at a party just because when I found it more important to be a first generation college graduate in my family. But like I said, they don’t haze anymore, but I won’t forget how I was hazed. The only thing they didn’t do was physically assault me. Everything else, embarrassment in front of people to look cool, be a slave, go to classes avoided any sorority sister and if I saw one I would get yelled at - 7 days a week from the morning - I woke up to go to class, go to the cafe to be with all the Greek and be embarrassed as pledges and “study” for the sorority, go back to class, go to lunch and have to sit with my pledge sisters in fear we would see someone, then at 3 cleaning at the sorority house and getting hazed, then 5:30 study hall at the library which you didn’t study because you were scared for what came that night, then 9pm - 4am you were hazed. And the next day it all started all over. You couldn’t drive, you had to walk everywhere. That meant to sorority sisters houses and frat houses and stores to get what you needed. Hell week was this times 20. If your school does hazing, it’s not worth it. When I came home for Christmas. I lost 30 lbs. All from pledging.

@@Important_Commentary I’m so sorry this happened to you. I think we are the same age. I went to UCSB and was in Alpha Phi. Same year as you. My roommates (I didn’t live in the house or dorms) were also in sororities Adpi & the other two Delta Gamma. The two older girls (a year older than me & the one in grad school) they were both hazed but they stopped doing it the year before I got there so 2007 was the last year for the sororities I also started 2008. I definitely heard horror stories and definitely saw all the fraternities still do it and since I was always around the frat house I made sure to be as kind as I could to everyone or when I saw my best guy friends being hazed next door (I could see into what the other fraternity was doing from my boyfriends shower window) I told him everything they did to their belongs (peeing, pouring stuff in them etc) so that they wouldn’t use it and snuck new stuff and food through the window. At my boyfriends it wasn’t too bad they really just had them do cleaning after the TGs and from a certain time aside from like the traditional ceremony stuff they did with the robes & paddles. And they were made to do like errands should anyone need anything but they also had to be careful of their charter so I think that’s why it wasn’t so intense. I definitely heard horror stories from some of the girls about having strobe lights in a room and tons of black and white stuff and having rice poured everywhere and being made to find certain black ones while kneeling and digging in it. I’m happy they did away with it I think it doesn’t show what sisterhood is about at all & you shouldn’t be traumatized to be able to be apart of something. Idk how you’re suppose to then be expected to bond with the people who did that to you. Good on you for not choosing to continue the cycle it just shows what kind of heart and person you are. I had some GFs at SDSU go inactive as they were a year ahead of me so I believe they were also hazed. I’m so happy to hear you were able to turn everything around and still graduate, and congratulations for being the first in your family such a wonderful accomplishment 💝.
