Hi. Thanks for being here with us. And thanks for your honest and open thoughts about trying to do more good without abandoning the good we're already trying to do. 1. Try the tea and get 50% off your first subscription order: good.store/collections/trythetea (NOTE: The tea is currently only available in the U.S. and Canada for freshness reasons. Sorry!) 2. Me too! The little church lady in me came out QUICK! Scared the atheist right out of me for a second 😂I literally didn’t know what else to say but HALLELUJAH!🎉
I have been WAITING for tea - not a coffee drinker, but really want to support these projects in more ways. Thanks, Green brothers, for keeping your (and our) attention on global health equity.
Same here! I like coffee just fine, but I can only drink it sparingly because my body metabolizes it straight into gut-twisting anxiety (thanks, body!🙄). But tea, at least in moderation, does not. And we loves it, our precious. And yanno...we hates the tricksy TB as much as we loves the precious tea. So this venture is definitely a winner in my books.
I mentioned this in the premier chat but just sharing some love for the descriptions of the teas, specifically how clearly they state whether the tea is caffeinated or not. As a caffeine sensitive tea lover who's used to scrolling to the deepest depths of websites it was a lovely change of pace :)
I often think about how difficult and unsexy building infrastructure is. Everyone wants to give money and aid but sustained concentration and effort is really challenging
My father contracted TB while doing his Nursing residency in the early 80s. Later in life, having also developed an autoimmune disease and rheumatoid arthritis...his TB reactivated. This all occurred in the Western United States. I am deeply grateful, Sir, that you cast such a bright light on this issue (and all the other things you pursue)! My father was very fortunate to receive the care he did, both times. It is time that everyone can have access to the same. As always, DFTBA!
John, I am a longtime, very quiet nerdfighter. And like too many, I struggle with poverty myself. That said, our awesome socks subscription is a priority for myself and my husband. And now, despite having just moved and not having jobs sorted yet, I set up a tea subscription. Eight weeks is enough time for everything in my life to shift. And I cannot think of a better way to spend what little spare money I have. I am proud to be a Nerd Fighter. I am proud to support the Good Store. I am proud to have contributed, even in such a minuscule way, to the betterment of the world. Thank you both for the community you’ve built and sustained, and the trust you have in us that we will keep showing up.
Halfway through this video I was disappointed because I really hoped “The Tea” was finally the announcement of the awesome tea club, and then I was un-disappointed because it IS finally the announcement of the awesome tea club
I'm so excited! I was like "Man, IDK if I can give any more per month D: I just ..." and then I was like "_But I can totally redirect my tea budget each month!
I, like John, don't know if we can sustain two long term projects. But I stay in this community because they are the type to genuinely ask the question, and over time continue to move forward in ways that match our shared values.
I love being part of a silly community that can use the power of the masses to help people. It’s love in all directions! (And now I’m signing up for some Tea)
I just wish I could afford the treatment to get rid of my latent TB before it becomes a problem in my later years. Probably won't. But it brings me to tears to think of what you and the community are doing to help those that would have no chance to survive from active TB. At least I can say I have a non-active case at the moment.
I have a Master's degree in public health and I cannot express how important longevity is. So many short-sighted projects lose steam and don't actually produce lasting change. Entire governments fail to pull off what John and Hank are doing.
John, I've been watching vlogbrothers since 2011 and because of you have been following Partners in Health and the MCOE project for many years now. I was drifting a lot in my career the past few years struggling to find work that I found meaningful, but as of a few months ago I'm proud to say that I started my dream job at PIH! The team there is so incredibly thoughtful and caring and I feel so fortunate to get to be a part of that. I wore my awesome socks to my first day at the office and they got recognized by multiple nerdfighter staff members! This channel has changed my life in so many ways. Thank you John for everything that you do. Never stop being awesome! Also, my partner just got told by her body that she can no longer drink coffee so the tea subscription could not be coming at a better time for us!
I drink tea literally every day, multiple times a day. I buy directly from China, Japan, Taiwan, and Nepal. I’m looking toward to trying your stuff and especially supporting a good cause while feeding my addiction. Cheers!
That's so valid :( I'm sure they're prioritize UK soon, but (speaking as a US resident) it seems a bit wrong to have tea available in the US and not in the UK :/
Shipping & distribution is so silly. Maybe we (Nerdfighteria) could set up an under-the-table thing like we (US folks) have with Canada folks, where we order it then personally send it to ya'll?
I have a 5 month old, and since giving birth I've come to appreciate the work PIH is doing with the support of Nerdfighteria in Sierra Leone. I had great (and mostly free!) healthcare through my pregnancy and I ended up needing an emergency c-section. Thank God I had access to the care my baby and I needed.
I am the target market for this tea! I’ve been an avid tea drinker my whole life, a nerdfighter since 2012 and am a scientist. My husband is an infectious disease scientist researching TB. I’ve already subscribed and can’t wait for my tea to arrive! ☕️🐝 I also have bee themed mugs 😂
On year two of awesome socks ... Now I think it's time to trade another couple of streaming services for a tea subscription that comes with a side of equity and hope for the future of mankind. Watching The Good Place whenever I want is good, but going to sleep every night knowing that I had the opportunity to help save lives and I took it - that's so much better. Thanks for the opportunity, John.
You guys are one of the best parts of the Information Age. As someone born and raised in it, and therefore affected by both it’s good and bad parts, Thank You for what you’re doing.
I currently have no income. (I'm disabled and in the process of arguing with the government to believe that I am.) I cannot wait until the day I can contribute to one of these causes. Some awesome tea is top of the list for things I want to get for myself when I'm making money again.
Unfortunately tea is a thousand years old institution of near-sacred import to me and I cannot get behind this move. Fortunately, your joke made me laugh hard enough that I almost snorted my drink (3 guesses what) out my nose 😂😂
"Sorry, the video is late" "Oh man, I hope John is ok" One can't be not ok with a shirt like this. So I'm happy to see this! And also, of course we love this project and everything it does 💛
I work in one of America's largest reference laboratories and part of my job involves TB testing (quantiferon specifically) I've wanted to help out more, it's a cause I'm passionate about and love watching your videos about it to make me feel like I'm a part of something bigger than myself. Sad thing is I HATE coffee. But now! I can drink tea and do my work knowing I'm helping in multiple ways. This was a pick me up I needed, due to instrument issues this week roughly 400 samples were compromised and even though it's not my fault I've felt awful thinking about how many patients were affected. This is the perfect time for me to give back and donate.
The other day I finally had the thought that Good Store had been attempting to target, “Oh I’m out of shampoo… I need to go to the store…. wait what about Good dot Store”. And then I went online and bought plastic free, conscious soaps. And that’s how it should be!! I couldn’t be happier to have it under my tool belt. :) Thanks to you guys.
Honestly, I most appreciated the update of where the projects are at and how they are being funded! Thank you for the clear communication, so excited for the work this community is continuing 🎉❤
So excited for the tea! As a non-coffee drinker this is a dream come true!! And glad to be supporting such an important cause, awesome to do so through what would normally be routine consumer purchases... and often not ethical ones otherwise! (Tea, socks, etc)
I hope you put the brewing instructions on the tea. A lot of people don't now how and it makes a big difference to the flavor. Doing so may help repeat orders.
I just received my tea, sat down with my first cup and listened to “On the Grasshopper and Cricket”. I feel very grateful to be a part of this community.
I've set up an automatic monthly donation for PIH because I know they are doing good for people on a daily basis. Change of subject: I am an Indiana librarian and I would wear the hell out of a "Micah Beckwith Is My Nemesis" t-shirt.
Yesss, I was just thinking earlier in the video that it's a shame that I just don't really like socks that aren't the very specific kind of socks I already have, or coffee that I have to make in my house, or bar soap - but I love tea!! Money's kind of tight at the moment but I'm so excited to at some point be able to support a great cause while also selfishly getting a good thing that I like😋
So glad that the tea subscription I've been waiting years for finally launched, and that I finally started working full time last year so I can actually afford to support such a great cause!
LOVE that this is happening, and that you listened to Hank that it needed to be loose tea rather than tea bags! 😍 Just a note, I had to work pretty hard to find out how many grams a "bag" was, might want to put that in the description. But seriously, this looks so good!
One piece of missing context I'd like to hear more about is how does all of this money compare to the problem as a whole? I just have no concept for how big these problems actually are. Like, 40 million dollars is a huge amount of money, but how much? A fraction of the cost of the maternal ward? Or is it actually a sizeable fraction of the cost of building/running all of Sierra Leone's healthcare system? Also, how much money is Partners in Health contributing beyond that $40 million? I have no sense of the scope of the situation as a whole.
Very excited about this news! I drink tea multiple times a day and have gotten a bit of a tea club started at work. This is going to be great to bring into the office and spread the word!!!
Q: can you please do a video on how the the maternal death rate has already fallen by 50%? Given that the teaching hospital hasn't opened yet, what worked there?
Love the idea! Went to purchase to find the confounding fact 'The Tea' is not available in the land of the tea, supper and comfy fireside socks!! Lots of Love (LOL) Theo
I am so glad to be knowing and learning from these guys for the past 15 years. What a guiding example of how to make good things happen in the world. Thank you for sharing the story with us.
I'm so excited! As a tea drinker, I have been hoping and waiting for y'all to start offering tea. Very cool that it's going to help expand the causes supported.
I suppose making the tea and putting it in the fridge in a pitcher/jar or later is too much? Or is it just the vibe of hot beverages? I could see the process getting exhausting for a whole year. I have adhd, so I get it if so, I'm just curious.
The process of making iced tea is a bit different than just cooling hot tea, even though plenty of people do just cool hot tea and call it iced tea, it doesn't quite have the same flavor as true iced tea
I remember hearing on an episode of Dear Hank and John that you guys were debating whether anyone would sign up for a loose tea subscription service. Very cool to see it come to life so soon, and I think the answer is we will!
Thanks John! I am so excited! I signed up as soon as I got the news and was even more excited to get the message that my order is ready to be shipped! Really looking forward to see incredible tea! 😊
Amazing work John. Ik you often highlight how fortunate and priviliged you are, but believe me, you are doing a lot more good w/ that position than most would. Thank you to you and Hank for being awesome!
I'm excited to be part of both of these projects! We decrease worldsuck in this corner of the internet. Thank you to all the folks who have spent time working on the Good Store, finding the tea (and other projects), and handling the logistics for taking on this second project! That is *so much* work. I'm practically crying at work overwhelmed by the awesomeness of Good Store, Complexly, Vlogbrothers, and Nerdfighteria.
My awesome socks are slowly replacing all my other socks. I love love love them and the fact that they support something as life changing as the maternal center of excellence just makes me love them more.
It's crazy how much these 2 brothers have done for the world. Between bringing millions of us at home a wide array of knowledge we wouldn't have otherwise had, so much joy and laughs, to donating insane amounts of money to so many worthy causes- the world is so much better with them in it♡
I've just graduated University and now have my first career job. I'm so excited for my first pay cheque because I can finally sign up for a subscription!
