This documentary has aged like the finest wine. The almost unfiltered access that it gets to the driver inputs, Ron's thoughts, the behind the scenes stuff puts overhyped manufactured shows like DTS to shame.

Almost 30 years since I first watched this, i still think it’s one of the best F1 documentaries. Look at the contrast of Mika’s emotions, before (full of confidence) and after (dejected) the race.

10:52 what a nice moment from the 3 legends of this sport. I was born in 1995 and I didn't have an opportunity to witness those times so this documentary is very interesting, especially for someone who prefer McLaren and Ron Dennis over Ferrari and their politics :) I'm going to watch all episodes. Dennis, Senna, Hakkinen is magical trio for me. Thank you for uploading.

If you really think Ron Dennis and McLaren were less political than Ferrari, maybe you should talk to David Coulthard.... I agree with you about engineers. There was less politics at McLaren (if you exclude the Schumacher/Brawn/Byrne era at Ferrari where there was NO politics at Ferrari). But otherwise - Coulthard was always disadvantaged and treated differently than Häkkinen and no other team than McLaren had more politics regarding technology than McLaren. They were constantly spreading rumors in the press that other teams had illegal technology on their cars to make them slower just because they hadn't come up with similarly clever solutions themselves. Such things were constantly being spread in the press, especially from the mid-90s onwards. And they themselves had technology on their cars that was far more dubious, such as the starting aid that was activated by the starting lights....

Dennis is such a bizarre character. In this episode alone he makes many quite uncomfortable situations (parading around correcting engineers and the Senna chat) and then at the end he does a really good job with Mika after his crash. It's almost like he revels in making everyone else feel awkward lol

Shame Drive to Survive can't be like this. If you can't accept F1 for what it is then don't watch it because there are too many clueless people being attracted to the sport through the misinformation they're getting from that badly edited Netflix "reality" show.

@@DarylLewis I've had people at work come to me and ask "how can you watch F1? It's nothing like it is on Netflix" that says it all about the so called fan base the sport now appears to have.

Nowadays the technology is fully maxed out and that leads to uniform solutions. That in turn takes away the excitement that one tries to compensate with the help of the sophisticated rulebook. However, this only works until everything has been fully restricted. Fact is, that this sport is ruined by its own high standards. When you look at what attracts todays F1 watchers (a fan is a whole different type of person) most than it is car livery, helmet design or drivers salary. The most superficial and least entertaining things Motorsport can provide. These watchers then consider themselves experts by putting on nerdy YT videos. This is all crap! I started becoming a Formula 1 fan in 1976 and man, it was excitement at its absolute peak which was held on a constant level from one year to the other. Demanding racetracks that have been integrated into nature, powerful and good-looking cars, real driver personalities and stories. Synonymous with 1986 season. Nothing left!

why mclaren didnt work with HONDA' ? this ford, was worst engine in the 90´s...for mclaren
@VWaudiRULEs
@VWaudiRULEs 4 года назад
Honda switched to a V12 for 1991 and became slow. The Renault V10 was running circles around it by mid 1991 and 1992 was hopeless. Honda left at the end of 1992. The Ford engine was getting really good but McLaren had the customer spec, not the factory spec like Benetton. McLaren finally got more competitive versions of the Ford engine by late 1993, except here it failed on Senna and the championship was lost. Still it gets worse for McLaren in 1994.
@ElectoneGuy
@ElectoneGuy 2 года назад
The Ford HB was an excellent V8. McLaren received customer-spec engines. Michael Schumacher would win the World Championship with a Ford V8 in 1994. To call it the "worst" engine is absolutely ridiculous.
@ElectoneGuy
@ElectoneGuy 2 года назад
@@VWaudiRULEs Honda's V12 was not "slow". The McLaren chassis of 91 and 92 was not up to par with the Williams FW12. But, the Honda was still making more power than the Renault both years.
@VWaudiRULEs
@VWaudiRULEs 2 года назад
@@ElectoneGuy That's interesting proposition. Maybe Honda theoretically had more power but it's also about fuel consumption, weight and reliability. Yes the 91 and especially the 92 McLarens were lacking when compared to the FW14, however judging how in 1991 Senna didn't stand any chance at Monza which is a power track, or Monza and Hockenheim in 1992 (actually both 91 and 92 for Hockenheim) would suggest the FW-14 was much better at straight line speed. Only Adelaide in 1992 the Honda engine seemed more competitive again, but that would be their last race.
@ElectoneGuy
@ElectoneGuy 2 года назад
@@VWaudiRULEs The Williams also had superior aerodynamics which would have helped (look at the 1988 March 881 for instance). Of course, we're probably only talking about 10-20bhp difference. The Renault was a very "driveable" engine with good power delivery throughout the rev range.
