these are the Birds of my youth, when i first started watching football. this is real football, and i still love these guys. i was born at just the right time, so that when i was first really learning about sports, all four of our teams were rising to the top. the late 70's saw the Flyers remain a Cup contender, the Sixers were a top NBA team that picked up the most exciting player in basketball, Dr. J and hte Eagles and Phillies rose from the basement to become championship calibre. what a wonderful time to be a Philadelphia sports fan. Ron Jaworski was one tough SOB. a very good quarterback, just try to imagine today's quarterbacks playing under the rules that Jaws and Bradshaw and Snake and Staubach and Montana played. anyone thinks Brady would have lasted as long as he did? nope. anyone think so many passing records would have been broken? nope. for many years, i had a Bill Bergey "Fly for Leukemia" posterin my room. it was autographed and featured a great picture of the Eagle great at the start of a play.

Steve - you're absolutely right, Brady couldn't have withstood the beatings the 1970s QBs endured. As a kid in 1977, I was a Steelers fan in 5th grade with a quiet admiration for the Houston Oilers under coach Phillips. Much respect to them, and Miami too actually. I never had feelings about the Eagles, although I can tell you in the mid-1990s our local press in Baltimore openly advocated cheering for the Eagles after the NFL bypassed Baltimore in the 1993 expansion draft, and then Eagles owner Norman Braman was the only owner who voted for Baltimore. I know what you mean about Jaworski, he was a lot bigger and tougher than people realized. My personal boyhood heroes were Bradshaw and Pastorini.

Kudos to the one doing the editing at 20:57 . . Only lasts 3 seconds, but leaves a lasting impression on the 1977 season as a whole . . .

After 15 years of futility the Philadelphia Eagles hired Dick Vermeil in 1976 and from there he began to put the pieces together as the Eagles would go to the playoffs from 1978 until 1981 which includes a trip to the Superbowl. Dick Vermeil did a outstanding job of bringing respectibilty to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Many thanks. I've been waiting 42 years to finally see the 1977 season Eagles highlights. Deac Sanders replaces Bill Bradley; Keith Krepfle replaces Charle Young. Free agent find Herm Edwards! Did you see Roman Gabriel pitch it to Wilbert Montgomery in the finale?

In 1977-1978 season Eagles improved their record from each, previous 2 seasons, back-to-back, 1975-1976/1976-1977 (when they went 4-10-0 in each, those previous 2 seasons). They went 5-9-0/that was foretaste, each, next 4 seasons (1978-1979 thru 1981-1982) when they'd reach playoffs

Vermeil was a tough coach, he worked his players hard. At USC, the players complained....but they won a title, the Eagles did the same..but they got to the Super Bowl and the Rams...oh man. Vermeil only had 8 players left from the original roster when he won that Super Bowl. He didn't work them because he hated them, he worked them because that is how you GET BETTER. It's also how the USA beat the USSR in the 1980 Olympics. Having gas in the tank late in the game is where all that hard work gets you.

Quick: Who replaced Charlie Swift as Eagles broadcaster? Hint: He is still around to this day.

He had been a pre and postgame host for a few years by then but that was his first year in the booth full time. Of course, he was only intended to be the color analyst but he became the play by play guy after Charlie Swift’s suicide

Personally.....I would like the Eagles to bring back the vintage Apple Kelly Green and Cascade Silver and Spotlight White jerseys (1974-85)....And classic green helmets too.. I am sooo sick and tired of current-present day midnight bluish green jerseys..😠😡😤 Just saying..... Monday 08 March 2021

Actually those jerseys (with a few tweaks of the sleeve stripes and numerical font) were from 1974-84. But I like those jerseys, and the 1965-69 ones also. And they definitely need to go back to the Kelly green and silver.
