One of my favorite running gags of the show is Ted constantly tripping/stumbling over the stairs when he’s running. It happens 3 times in the first episode. It’s a small little detail that somehow cracks me up because of course there’s no friction happening between his steps. But what makes it work is his unfazed reaction. Like, he’s not angry or pissed when it happens. He just stumbles and continues, like he’s learned to live with this reoccurring issue due to him being a teddy bear and the camera shot just lingers on him stumbling and continuing. It’s a small little detail that I wasn’t expecting the creators to consider but adds humor to the practicality of a talking teddy bear in the real world.

My favourite piece of Ted trivia is still the fact that Eastern countries like Japan are just obsessed with the Ted movies and subsequently, the TV show. It might not seem that big a deal but there's something inherently heart-warming about seeing people from the East adoring something that was made in the West to the same degree the West just love anything that was made there, which in itself also feels like a rare event. I can't think of anything else that Western entertainment created that caused everyone from the East to go absolutely nuts over it.

I second the fact that his literal glass-eyed gaze helps accentuate the expressions in scenes where he's the focus, and not just for comedy. He's trying to figure out who he is right alongside his thunder buddy, and that gormless stare manages to capture the kind of vacant "i don't get it" glazed over expressions, the "oh crap" realizations of what he's doing, and the genuinely good ideas that spark in his head about how to move forward with only the movement of his eyebrows and his mouth.

The CGI is obviously somewhat less detailed than the movies, but I think that’s honestly a benefit to the Ted lore. The more expensive movie CGI allows us to see a bit more of a grungy, dirty, and wore-down teddy bear. The CGI of the TV show has Ted more saturated and less detailed, but that works because this is many years before Ted starts living with adult Johnny in a dirty apartment as a wash-up. Just thought that was neat.

A better comparison weirdly enough would be the Chucky Tv Show based on the horror icon Chucky from the “Child’s Play” movies as the series is a continued continuity from its first three films, it’s two odd ball experimental films and two DVD only released movies all helmed by director George Donald Mancini. Both shows in a sense dealing with entity normally that wouldn’t be real talking teddy bear and murderous children’s doll come to life. With the kids dealing with its existence in their life during an important time in their lives around high school. One taking place in the 90’s and the other modern day. Both shows using practical and other effects to bring these two to life. Chucky is a rather interesting show with possibly a lot of homework to understand some context with characters; with crew and cast from the previous movies returning for the show as even their family joining in its production and cast.

My one inherent gripe against it is that it's the main thing keeping Seth from working on more of The Orville, which only got better and better as time went on. I'm an easily amused person anyway, but this series is perfect escapism. I've laughed all the way through every episode so far. The episode where they pretend to be the bully's dad had me needing to pause a few times.

Ted is one of my and my whole family’s favorite movies of all time for the longest time, but as the show got closer to release I was starting to fear it being bad much more. The show was good and had it’s funny moments most definitely, but it only had one episode with a somewhat original plot (that being the one with Dennis), and the only character that could get a real laugh out of me was Ted. Although it is very reassuring to see a return to form for the genre of stoner comedies.

Just goes to show that when Seth macfarlane actually tries at a comedy series with characters who can be as iconic as they are they’re brilliant, makes you wonder what family guy would be like had he not stepped back from the creative team for the show

Sounds like an annoying TikTok barista. Ruins the video. Also him only giving shows 1 or 2 episodes before he decides what it’s worth. Like there has been multiple shows where first 1-3 episodes suck. Not a real critic by doing that. Even film critics watch an entire movie they hate.

This show is amazing and Seth really made me laugh and smile for the first times this year. Blaire reminds me of Haley from American dad with her own characteristics and complexity such as how she had to run away from her home considering her family had issues. John reminds me of early season Steve from American dad and developing into his own character like in the movies such as him smoking pot for the first time, attempting to lose his virginity, and how he handles his bullies. Susan and Matty have such original character growth* despite being based on a familial stereotype (drunk dad who fought in Vietnam and sinless mother who believes in Christianity). The nostalgia for the 90's is definitely starting to show today as in the 90's and 00's we had a large portion of shows being based in the 60's and 70's (even today based on theme) and I suppose this show has established that culture shock is still possible. I loved Ted since it came out in 2012 and when I turned 16 and started smoking with my hippie grandpa and watched it with him it made it even funnier. My grandpa is in a resting home and if this show came out just a year or two sooner I would be able to show it to him and get high with him like how we used too. My dad who is an alcoholic came in and we lost a lot in the last few months while we already had a roommate (evicted, lost both our cars, my dad taking my grandpa's money, I wasn't able to keep going to college for my music major, lost my dog and he lost his cat, me and him were both in the hospital and were both admitted around new years, I only got out a couple weeks ago, and he's in a senior home now and I'm living with my mom to save money). I want to say in conclusion of this comment, that Seth MacFarlene made a grand influence on my childhood, and I hold him dearly in my heart. I'm happy this show exists. Thank him for the laughs. -Derek Hein
