@normanacree6307 you must be one of these trolls who challenges other people's comments to show how clever you are. If this "floats you boat," then you must be a lonely person.
Beautiful song, always has been. I am 72yrs young, but , it is so funny, because, for as long as I can remember, somehow, I thought it was about my Love for "JESUS" so weird! but true. Most of the words in this song, STILL makes me feel the same. Thank you!!
Her voice sounds exactly like my mother's; so clear, pure, powerful, yet soft and gentle at the same time, and angelic. My mom always sang to me, when I was a baby, and a young child. It was so beautiful and comforting. I miss her. She passed away, a few years ago, just after my 30th birthday.🤍
I grew up then in a family of older sisters. I remember the petticoats starched in sugar water, hanging over the bathtub drying, to fill out those drndl dresses before they headed out to the dances.
I was 10 years old when this came out and even after 66 years it still takes me back to a simpler more trusting time in the US, one that was about goals of hope and love we had known as a people. America has lost much since the 50s and it lifts my spirits to know that some of what was best about us as a people still survives and will never fade as long as there are those who remember where we came from, who we were and above all why we made and enjoyed music such as this.
This was the first song I fell in love with on the radio as a kid. Later, as a piano player, I marveled at the changes on that beautiful bridge, so sophisticated for a teenager to have composed. I'll remember the genius and ignore the tragedy, which is, after all far more common in this life.
Carol Conners (the singer) was just sweet 16 at the time. Still with us as of Jan, 2024.. Perry Como was a cool guy. He welcomed rock and roll acts on his TV show when others didn't. Starting on 9/22/1958 this song spent an amazing 23 weeks in the hot 100.
Wow it's 2024 and I'm 57, I say this to let you know I've finally found the group that sang a song I loved as a kid and never knew who sang it. Thanks Netflix and Homicide Los Angeles
@@abneryokum I wouldn't sweat his opinion,...he's entitled to it, but some people live to dissent. Even being slightly flat here and there, it's perfect because it's natural,...and I'd rather listen to a natural sound than that sickly sweet, artificial sound,...any day of the week.
@@christiansoldier1968 My opinion is her vocal's terrific, & it's a fabulous arrangement too! The song was a big hit back then in 1958 and '59.... Those of us who were in grade school then wanted to hear it over and over on our AM radios!!😄👍
Alex Ward played the entire audio of this performance on a recent Pink & Black Days on 50s Gold. The date of this appearance was January 3, 1959. I was in 1st grade and loved this song!
Simply one of the best songs ever. One of many songs that introduced me to pop music back in the late 50s. I didn't know then it was preparing me for the 60s.
Phil Spector. A musical genius. He put together a nearly endless stream of hits with various groups. I didn't realize that in his early days he was actually a part of a group, but apparently he was.
@@richardpatrick2852 I don't think so. He was around in the early 2000s - though he had become fairly paranoid by then. Regardless of his tragic ending - that he brought on himself - he was a Rock N Roll musical genius.
I still remember the first time I heard this song as a rock-loving teenager in the early 80's. I was complaining while I listened that it was too slow just like all those other 50's songs. Then she started singing that bridge and the world stopped and vanished, leaving only this song. To this day, everything comes to a stop when I hear this song playing.
First song I dance with my boyfriend in 1963 and later was killed. Teens had no counseling back in the days for us as students. Was so hard going back to school in 9th grade after his death. This will always be my favorite song of the time era
This song came into my head this morning. I lost my husband six years ago, have met a man who lost his wife 5 years ago. We have been together for five years. 13 age gap. We love music and he is learning guitar at 83.my husband was a guitarist with the small faces before they were famous. My man's ambition is to play my husband's electric guitar through an amplifier. Live for us is beautiful. Thank you for sharing this song. Light and love to everyone 💕🙏
Incredible, your husband played with the most underrated band of the sixties. The small faces were sublime. I wish your new man all the best and I am glad to find people like you on the net

1958- That was the year I was born, yet strangely I remember hearing this song when I was a little kid. Watching this video reminded me of how innocent American girls were back then and it kind of hits you right here.
Phil Specter, the guitarist and song writer, would become a major record producer in a few more years. His signature sound for his recording artists, including many of the 'Girl Groups' of the early 1960s, was a "Wall of Sound". He also married Ronnie Spector of the Ronnettes.
Yea so he could sexually violate the women in them girl groups.... even violated his adopted sons....! The fucking monster.....! He was an ugly looking weasel....! Thats why he forced himself on woman.....! He was hideous to look at
I love this band. I couldn't believe when she said she was in high school!!!! She is/was absolutely adorable!! The way she smiles when she sings and her eyes sparkle. Yes, this is another treasure. So glad youtube is here!
That "absolutely adorable" singer is Carol Connors (real name: Annette Kleinbard). Also, the guitarist on the right, the one who was singing ba-da-da da-da-da as a backup voice, was none other than Phil Spector, who later became one of the foremost rock-n-roll producers in the industry. (Later, he was convicted of the murder of an actress, and he died in prison.)
he also wrote this song as a very young teen for his father. his father committed suicide and the songs title is written on his fathers grave. very said story. and Phil had mental illness he committed himself many times over the years.
@@jackiesmithsmetaldetecting, well God bless mum, God bless Dad, and while i"m at it, God bless jackiesmith -- you've weathered and are weathering storms, and I wish you the best. (Yes, what I typed in is so, it can be fact-checked with just a little bit of internet searching.)
Incredible voice…16 years old….#1 song in the world….written for her voice by the icon PHIL SPECTOR….how I miss outstanding music….my #2 song of all time….rated #76 in the Top Five Thousand songs of all time….
Today reading about of one of The Ronnets, I found this group. I Didn't know them. I like them. I was a teenager. How I miss all my family and my adolecence
I was a young, almost teenager back then...I can tell you, women back then were not afraid to be feminine, sweet, yet retain their powerful charismatic sway over men!..Such meaningful simplicity in those kinds of tunes...and actually being able to temporarily hold a young lady in your arms, while dancing at a sock hop, was a thrill!
Some call you a monster, some call you a genius. In fact, Pop music never where the same without you... from this song to the Beatles your footprint in music is gigantic....a tiger tank....rest in peace and i think wherever you are now you will be without the devils who threatend you in your lifetime
Love this song , I always put it on for my 2 yr old baby when I put him to bed . I have my pandora set under Peggy lee , the teddy bears , billy holiday and you’ll get all the good songs ✨♥️
These words are on the tombstone of Phil Spector's father. I've been to the grave site as much of my family is buried in the same cemetery. It's incredibly sad to know how his dad died and what it did to the family.
A 19 year old Phil Spector wrote and arranged this song which was #1 on the Billboard charts for 3 weeks. An auspicious beginning to a brilliant career to say the least. In the 60's and 70's...Phil was THE MAN as far as a record producer. He steered the boat on a ton of #1 hits like the Righteous Bros. "You've Lost That Loving Feeling". - Heartbreaking that later in life he went so far off the rails he somehow got convicted of murder and died in prison.
Even though Phil's life went very badly, I still believe that the woman's death was truly a manslaughter case, an accident that was bound to happen because of Phil's insistence on carrying guns and waving them around. I don't think he meant to kill her.
@@richardpatrick2852 "The woman". How charming. Her name was Lana Clarkson and she was not the first woman Spector tried to force into sex at gunpoint. Look at the man's history for goodness sake. He was a sociopath and a monster.
Good Lord, what a shock. Of course the social climate pervading the West and I suppose culminating in America, is liquor, substance abuse, illicit sex, gambling and meat eating. The modes of ignorance and passion grip the people, even the talented gifted and sincere musicians in the business. We could do our title part (which is actually big) and just drink milk, spare the cow her life, and forgo the all pervasive imported coffee, to really start all over with a more peaceful world, as Perry C hints at in this long ago classic video. 📣🥛
