I remember there was a girl during my primary school days who smelt very bad. It smelt more like sulfate, rotten eggs and vinegar than fish. It was pungant. She had no friends and was ostracised. She smelt so bad no one sat next to her in class due to parents complaining it was "distracting". I remember holding my breath every time she walked past...all the kids did...I feel really bad now, if only the teachers and parents educated us about the medical condition...

A mom opened up to me about this condition about her child when she dropped her over for a sleepover. I still agreed to let the little girl stay the night which turned into a weekend. My daughter had just begun the LUME products because I felt she needed deodorant but was too young for the aluminum. same, I remember a girl from elementary who had this condition, honestly the smell was terrible, it's kinda like being next to a rotting fish stall the whole time, I know its not her fault but it doesn't change that it can be incredibly annoying. A friend of mine had this too back in high school almost 10 years ago, he was overweight & everyone used to make fun of him behind his back, at first i didnt know what was wrong with him i thought it was something related to his weight but later realised it wasnt and i looked it up on the internet and i learned that it was a serious disorder about enzymes not being properly broken down in the stomach, i told a few friends about it & they became more accepting of him once they knew, it's all about doing proper research before judging anyone & spreading awareness.

I've seen a documentary about a woman with the same condition years ago..and she doesn't smell anymore because she is on a strict diet. But I see this girl loves fatty fries..It is not her fault she has this condition but if it bother hers so much then she should just stop eating all this stuff. Like she said in the vid, the smell is a constant thing, she always smells, more when sweating but she is never odorless. So botox isn't a solution unfortunately.

I know how you both feel. I didn't have any disability in high school and I got bullied. I was thin but it good shape . All it took was one kid to say I had fish lips because in a white guy with big lips...not huge lips just not narrow lips. Well the name stuck. I played sports, smoked pot (late 70s early 80s) average grades. For 4 years I was called fish lips. Bullies punched me class clowns made fun of me. I ignored it. It hurt. Finally graduated, got a decent job and people made fun of me for being thin even though I was all muscle. It wasn't as bad as high school but still. Then my metabolism changed and because I smoked a lot of pot I started to get fat. Now I'm fat and can't lose weight. I'm really unhealthy. When my wife gets angry she calls me names...always having to do with being fat. My 2 step kids learned to do the same so once in a while as adults they will say something nasty. My biological son already has weight problems at 25. He didn't have any problems with weight while in school. He wasn't athletic but he was friendly and stuck up for kids being bullied. For that reason alone he was bullied. People are mean and its so much worse when its people who supposedly love you. But I feel for you young people. I know what it can be like. I know what its like to feel suicidal. All I can tell you is to take care of yourself. Physically so you don't end up like me and have a heart attack at 50. But also take care of your mental health. There are numbers to call....those numbers weren't around when I was young. Stay strong!

Where'd you go to school because the story sounds very familiar. I don't know if I went to school with someone who was nicknamed Fish Tank who bit people but it feels like I've heard of this mysterious Fish Tank before.
People can be so cruel🥺 I know someone who had the same condition. He began taking chlorophyll capsules(internal deodorizer) and that reduced his body odor drastically. Just a suggestion if she would be open to trying that.
It's making me reconsider all the times I assumed someone needed a trip to the OBGYN. But really, this poor girl, or anyone with this?!? You'd think they'd figure out how to replace the protein these people don't have. Monthly shot? I'd take injections to not go through life like that.

Yeah I was kind of surprised too? I'm curious exactly what protein it is that's not digestible. I thought they were going to say foods like fried items and red meat and eating a lot of whatever foods have good gut bacteria. I hope they have more studies on this condition to figure it out 😕
It is a protein related disease. Our body is made of many different protein structures. Just because eating a greasy, meaty meal for most people will usually result in a stronger body odour temporarily, this does not equate to how this condition works. There will be specific compounds that aggravate the production of the proteins that her body can’t process. It could be anything from a certain chemical present in green vegetables to a compound found in jelly beans. I don’t know what they are specifically because I am not an expert in this condition. This girl will know through trial and error and I assume medical advice, what foods have a low risk and a high risk and the “healthiness” of those foods will not be relevant as to how her body is able to process them. Proteins are basic building blocks of life, all cells have them and therefore all foods have them, so try not to think too literally of meat=protein, since all foods have protein. As I said, it will be specific compounds in certain foods that worsen it and it will have no bearing on their nutritional quality
It is actually coming from something called choline which people who have this specific disorder there body can't breakdown or convert the tmao in choline to the non odorous form during digestion. But there are many disorders similar to this that haven't been named or diagnosed as of yet
