There was a ton of links I wanted to put in the description so I ran out of space. Here's the remaining links to extra info/sources of info. Sidenote, I got the gender of the kid's sibling in Cartoon All-Star's wrong. He had a little sister not a little brother. Didn't rewatch it for the video, probably should've so I wouldn't have made such a mistake. Oh well. Happy New Year PigPen. God bless and Happy New Year. BTW. Still hope you get around to making these DC Superhero Icebergs Green Lantern Aquaman Martian Manhunter Plastic Man Captain Marvel Green Arrow Static Blue Beetle Hawkman and Hawkgirl Zatanna Ect.......................
26:04 I hate to be such a nerd, but the 2012 series was NOT Pizza Face's first appearance. It was his first on TV, but not as a whole. Pizza Face was a character in the 1988 toyline, where he was described as Shredder's chef, who wanted to become "the most powerful pizza chef ever". To do this, he put himself in his "retromutagen oven" but the turtles came in time to pull him out in the middle of the process. This turned him into a "half baked" monstrosity who vows vengeance against the turtles, wanting to turn them into pizza toppings. The 88 toyline was fucking hardcore.
The fact that the TMNT 2003 series got season 7 rejected, because there was fear that kids would get confused with the past and present day turtles, is really an examples of executives underestimating their audience.
if there's one thing this video has taught me, outside of TMNT lore and history, is the importance of physical media. so many TMNT games and moments from the 90s are lost to history because there's no physical copy. it's really scary how quickly something can disappear from the face of the earth and its disheartening for fans
I know TMNT always has the reputation for being a goofy franchise and to a certain point it is, but I also think it’s one of the most underrated. The Masters of the Universe collab is looking great so far
If anything, the TMNT series is a franchise that's one of the most consistent in quality for the most part (with the shows at least). It's been rebooted more than 4 times and each show has merit to be worth watching. Alongside some great comics stories.
Bro same, I knew about the ninja turtles but until then I had never really seen what they do and who they are. Those two things are great introductions
The fact that Raph loves Kirby to point of nerd rage, is too good And that he stabbed a Sai through an older model TV, from the '90s - those things have some thick glass
It helps that Kirby has the ninja ability (in which, he uses in the anime) and The Next Mutation (the cancelled movie, not the awful live-action show) was going to introduced Kirby the 5th turtle
1:17:13 Fun fact, Garfello was going to be one of Garfield’s Alternate costumes in Nickelodeon all star brawl 2, due to it appearing in the games files as part of Garfield’s textures, it’s such a shame it was cut.
Fun fact about Cartoon All-Stars: Michelangelo is the only cartoon character to be absent on the box art. This may be due to a mistake by the artist or a deliberate choice to avoid complaints from parents who didn't like how violent TMNT was Conversely, Smurfette can be seen on the cover, despite not appearing in the special itself, which is most likely a mistake Edit: Smurfette's appearance on the cover may also hint that she was planned to appear in the special at one point but got cut, leaving the cover unedited
Only one problem with this part of the RU-vid video about this fact, it's Michael's sister, not brother, that Michael stills from. Fun Fact: Roy E. Disney, the nephew of Walt, produced this special with McDonald's.
That He-Man Crossover sounds amazing. If nothing more than to see Skeletor and Shredder fighting side-by-side. I was literally thinking the DreamWorks She-Ra show could actually pull-off a crossover before the segment came up. The art styles are very compatible!
TMNT 2012 was my introduction to TMNT. I’ve been a fan (shellhead? lol) ever since. I’ve only watched the 2003 version so far. But I want to watch all the adaptations eventually. Overall, I love the franchise as a whole. I’ve been hoping to get into the comics at some point, but I have no idea where to start.
Definitely needs Mirage representation, could have gone into the future eras of Mirage where all the Turtles went their own ways and how they ended up. But wonderful video otherwise, a few nitpicks would be a lot of the characters first appeared in the toy line over the cartoon and for the Next Mutation you said Shredder was "killed off" but then mention his return later on. (He was just like mind wiped by Venus's magic initially.)
I actually learned about a lot of things here for the first time that I never would've expected (especially most of the cancelled stuff! I knew there were some scrapped pitches and concepts but DAMN), so easily the best TMNT iceberg video I've seen, and I bet ever made, so great job, my good sir!
When this video was released, I just came home from a cruise with my family and got extremely sick in the process. This video helped me get through the sickness I was dealing with as I was lying in my bed, dying. I’ve been watching you ever since you started your channel. So thank you for the content! Keep up the good work!
Pigpen is my savior. TMNT is probably one of my favorite franchises and there is so little content about in on yt imo. Pigpen once again delivers a goated video
It's wild how literally all of the other actors considered for April in the reboot would have been better suited for the role than Megan Fox, imo. Wild.
Yes, the 2014 tmnt movie wanted to beat the audience over the head with the fact that Megan fox is attractive every chance it got. The sequel did it as well.
Happy new year, Pigpen! Rise is my all-time favourite Ninja Turtles iteration! I bought the whole series and the finale still makes me cry every time I watch it.
so many things i never knew about the tmnt and the first one to make me completely lose it was how the "We Wish You a Turtle Christmas" included a gift of CHOPSTICKS, my goodness i burst out in laughter
1:32:45 Raph being a fan of Kirby Right Back at Ya makes a lot of scenes, Kirby has a ninja ability and The Next Mutation (the cancelled movie at 21:29, not the terrible show) was going to introduced a 5th turtle named Kirby.
Yeah that would’ve made more sense. Since the first two Jurassic Park films came out around then, maybe they were inspired by the raptors in those movies?
What's funny is that while the '87 cartoon was known as Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, when the 90's TMNT movie was released internationally, it still retained the actual title, hints of a supposed change to the international release were found elsewhere including on a Japanese release of the film, the credits song in the international release having the word Ninja replaced with Hero, and gallery images in the Hong Kong DVD release of the film showing scanned versions of the lobby cards with the altered name. These types of hints including the fact that the UK version had Mikey's nunchucks covered in darkness indicated that this was being worked on but for whatever reason never made it in the UK release.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles iceberg nice, great to watch before the ends of 2023, I hope you get a lot of rest man. The DCEU and Gundam iceberg videos will be worth it thank you for the video man.
I was confused as to why you censored the concept art for "Evil April", but now I see why. I'm sure that was an early idea and it was dropped quickly, but I didn't know there's an official piece of concept art from The Jim Henson Company where April has her chest basically exposed.
Just a few more: Ceberus Crossover, Usagi crossover and Fugitoid Crossover beign canon, Mirage Comics Last days of the TMNT Tales of the TMNT Souls Winter Panda Khan Tmnt: Oddysey
amazing work dude, this ice berg was great. I hope that you eventually come back to tmnt since there were some things you didn't touch in this one. I hope your break helps and I can't wait to see the DCEU iceberg.
2 minutes in, I'm already upset😭. So close to getting an interesting storyline for Mikey and then not 💔. I wish they would focus more on all 4 brothers instead of just Leo and a bit of Raph.
Ok Pigpen here’s some request I had when you do the iceberg - X-Men - King Kong - Looney Tunes - Garfield - Tom and Jerry - Captain America - Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck - Mario Movie Etc
Extra note for 1:27:01. Although there wasn’t any comics, the He-Man x TMNT crossover did surface as part of the Masters of the Universe Origins toy line.
Have a happy new year pigpen! I always enjoy your content, and i hope you see continued success into 2024. TMNT has always been a franchise I've barely engaged with much but seems like something I'd really enjoy.
9:22 Dr. Bolton did NOT create the Street Sharks, they were originally his human sons who were transformed into sharks by the evil Dr. Paradigm. The reason Bolton hardly showed up in the series was that he was mutated by Dr. Paradigm in the first few minutes of the series and ran off but occasionally resurfaced to help his sons. That was one of the best elements of the series for me, the Street Sharks' search for their father and how they only ever showed what he looked like mutated in the shadows.
The Foot Clan prequel series pitch wasn’t the only time Eric Robles almost worked on a TMNT property. The series he was a showrunner for, Glitch Techs, was going to have a crossover of sorts with the TMNT before that episode got scrapped. It got far into production where there’s voiced animatics, with Shredder being voiced by Kevin Eastman himself.
Great video. Way to sum up 40 years of TMNT. I really enjoyed the things I forgot about when I was little like the Rock concerts and the Oprah appearance. I also enjoyed learning about new things like canceled live action movies and the female turtles.
Although I remember the TMNT cartoon from when I was younger, I never got hooked on the show like some of my friends did. He-man and Thundercats were more my thing (Heh hum) Though the recent movies weren't fantastic, I still enjoyed them. This has been really interesting and you make it so fun. Have an amazing New Year.
Hot Take kinda. The Turtles and Daredevil have nothing in common beyond being opposites or parallels and an official crossover would be quite boring. A crossover with Spider-Man would be much better since they complement each other better.
Something I found amusing about Coming Out of Our Shells is that April is played by Sherie Rene Scott, who would later become a talented big Broadway actor (seriously, listen to My Strongest Suit from Aida, it’s a bop). It’s funny how the TMNT rock show is how she got her start. Also I’m so happy the cancelled Hallmark movie was mentioned. I can never find anyone talking about that. So funny how the people who are mainly known for doing cheesy Christmas movies almost did the Turtles.
The reason for all the Pizza Hut ads is during the first movie Dominos had a deal with TMNT to be sponsored in the movie. Well Pizza Hut and paid for ALL advertising rights to advertise the TMNT. So the games had coupons to pizza hut, pizza hut has advertised every big movie tmnt even to today.
I thought I remembered having the 2012 TMNT game and liking it (I was 7 at the time) and sure enough I do! So if I actually set the time to make a review I will.
It's obvious that the iceberg was more 80's and 90's TMNT inclined, but I'm still kinda buffled that there was not a SINGLE entry related to the "controversal" episodes of the 2003 series. Not a single mention of either "Insane in the Membrane", the whole "Season 5 fiasco" or even "NIGHTMARES RECYCLED" who's by far one of the craziest stories I've heard related to the series as a whole.
