I love the line @ 2:31. 'You must be wife to the next Pharaoh. You're going to be mine. All mine, like me dog or my horse or my falcon, only I will love you more. Trust you less'
This scene simply oozes with sexual tension. Yul Brenner's masculinity. Anne Baxter's skimpy outfit. Ramses promising "you are food for the gods" and "I will have all of you". And in response to Nefretiri's protests, he says "whether you like it or not, is your own affair. But I think you will!". It was remarkably risque for a 1956 movie. Grrrrrrr!!!!
By 1979 we had Caligula which is still controversial now, the 1970s was probably the peak of what you could get away with, films like Pretty Baby, Last House on the Left, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Clockwork Orange....
OMG! I thought I was the only one that felt this way! I'm also thirsting for an actor that's been dead for more than 30 years. His name is Stephen Boyd. He's the actor that starred in the role of Massala in the 1959 version of Ben Hur.
I LOVE this movie! Anne Baxter s performance is my favorite out of all of them in this movie ...and there is a lot of stellar acting in this film! Anne was a versatile and tremendously talented actress. She nailed this role! Love her!!
Such great acting, l love when Ramsey's says "Does it matter", when she says she can never love him. Also the way he throws his cape over his shoulder like a king and he says to her "l will enjoy you much, whether you enjoy it or not is up to you, but l think you will." He's stone cold and already made to be a pharaoh.
It gives absolute chills when he says it like that, and the sexiness just comes off him. I had such a huge crush on him as a child, Yul Brynner is iconic.
I understand that Ramses is meant to be hated. But I just can't find myself too hate him. The dude is a great character lol. Like he knows what he is and wants. Yul Brynner killed this role.

Both my friend and I agree. Yul Brenner made the movie what it was, among the greatest films of all time.
@ I'm sayin man like I love all the characters. He stands out tho. All the main three characters moses, ramses, and nefetiri were all Oscar winners so that's why lol
@@Jonathan-pz3zb Well, the only parts one can see through are the arms with the cape, all the rest of the dress has a nude lining. Why would they be inappropriate, for the time, condition and setting this scene takes place? They wouldn't be appropriate for a funeral, a lab or an office, but I don't see why not in other places. And really, who are you to talk about my dignity? Real dignity is to be free to come and go, to express my opinions without being judged solely by that. What one wears has no relation with its dignity and worth of respect. Even if clothes determined a woman's worth, Nefertiti's dress don't even reveal much. They just appear so due to the light fabrics.
Greatest back'n'forth in cinema history. Every line is pure gold and the acting is brilliant. Ending with the greatest walk off, drop the mic, remark in world history - "But I think you will..."
What a grand entry. His presence fills and lingers on, in the room. The dialogue is fantastic. We don't get to see such larger than life characters on the big screen any more. That dress!
Anne Baxter was Unbelievably and way beyond Gorgeous, Sexy, Stunning, glamorous, glorious, beautiful, exquisite and splendorous and Sublime and lovely and Perfect and Excellent beyond all words and without all questions.
So many amazing actors in an all-star cast. Cedric Hardwicke's performance is one of my favorite in the movie. He brings a warm yet sarcastic perspective as Sethi the First. His retort to the High Priest regarding the temple grain being confiscated by Moses to feed the slaves as they build his city, that "You don't look any leaner", Is one of my favorite little jokes in the film.
Yul raspy voice is everything So powerful .. he could play a monster ..while in real life he was a gentle sweat and geniune person ...Ann Baxter acting face body timeless beauty belongs to history none of actresses actors of this new era could catch up and play the part like both of em perfect cast ..the movie is simply a masterpiece
He absolutely nailed it - the confidence was bordering on complete arrogance but he also brought a level of sex appeal to the role that just makes it so hard to hate the character.
That’s the way most kings/pharaohs were at that time. Marriage rarely happened for love, especially among nobles and royals. It was to secure heirship and form political alliances.
Well, it was historically recorded that the actual Pharoah, Ramses, (noted to be probably one, if not THE best Pharaohs of ancient Egypt), truly loved his main/chief wife and chosen queen, Nefertari. She also wielded almost as much power in the government as Ramases, and was chief in negotiations with foreign rulers/governments.
Anne Baxter was gorgeous, just watching her in a My Three Sons episode later on. What a beauty. And Yul Bryner..The King and I, The Ten Commandments..hot! Great actor.
But he overlooked one major point. Nefertari wasn't his only wife. So, if he calls her , others will come too ,whether Ramses likes it or not, I think he will like it.
historically, this is even funnier because Nefretari and Ramses II were apparently a very loving couple, so much so that Ramses wrote extensively of her and gave her the best tomb of any Queen when she died
it's funny as well because when Rameses son is dying he says to an aide- He's my only son...WELL, of course he had 156 children with MANY secondary wives. Egyptology is my PASSION but it really started as a chid when ABC tv showed this EVERY year at Easter. It IS a wonderful spectacle which IS STILL LOVE - (well besides the complete lack of historicity)
the only two things Ramsey cared about was his father and being Pharaoh. He never loved Neffritee and he cared even less. She just came with the package.
Flibbertigibbet6 nope this is a fiction Nefertari. Ramses actual sister is Henutmire. Nefertari married Ramses II and is believed to be related to Ramses II.
Ya think? Marriage almost never had anything to do with love back then, especially among royals. It was to secure heirship and form political alliances.
Favorite line, Nefriteri hands the royal sword to Ramesses and says...bring this back to me with Moses' blood, Ramesses replies "I will" as he places the sword into its scabbard around his waist, "to mingle with your own!!" love it!, I repeat that line every time my wife hands me a knife in the kitchen, which is usually followed by her throwing something at me. as a kid I always thought Nefretiri was Sethi's daughter, as I got older I realized she was not, but I always wondered why I thought that, now I know ...because she's always around Sethi before becoming queen, sitting next to him on the throne, playing games with him in the palace, always with him long before Ramesses married her, but why, she's nobody until Ramesses marries her and then becomes Queen, so why is she being waited on hand and foot by servants, living with the Pharaoh Sethi before she becomes Queen? I know she was a princess but does anyone know who she was related to?
It is speculated that she was the great granddaughter of Pharaoh Ay, who was only on the throne for 4 years and before that was Vizier - possibly even to Tutankhamun.
You walked into the party Like you were walking on to a yacht Your hat strategically dipped below one eye Your scarf, it was apricot You had one eye in the mirror As you watched yourself Gavotte And all the girls dreamed that they'd be your partner They'd be your partner, and You're so vain......
