Genius philosopher, held a mirror up to a society, and is missed badly. THE GOAT. You need to watch more than just clips, start with earlier things, like 7 Dirty words, Stuff, etc…up to his last show. ALSO, remember when this was RECORDED!! Love your channel ❤️
I think he is on another tier of any other comedian. In fact I wouldn't even call Carlin a comedian. He's almost like a philosopher who is also entertaining.
What a great reaction. You knew exactly what he was saying, you understood his points, and agreed with them. I recited this to a friend of mine, who wasn't even religious, and he wasn't having it. He wouldn't even let me get "down to 5". He got up and walked away because he knew George is right
Stumbled upon your channel looking for George Carlin reactions and I hope you keep them coming! Enjoy going down this rabbit hole, there’s truly nothing else like it. R.I.P. to the greatest to ever do it. Miss you, George!
Personally I just follow 1 commandment: "Thou shalt always try your best to not be a jerk." Which pretty much covers all the bases; dishonesty, disrespect, theft, infidelity, murder. And it doesn't judge you for failing, as long as you tried.
Remember that was years ago .. I was in my 20s when I saw him in concert. I'll be 60 this year and George bless him has been gone for a few now. He had that much insight on the world we lived in .. and predicted today .. he truly did.
A handful is pushing it, in my opinion only Richard Pryor. They stand at the top. Once you've heard everything they both had to say. you realise how much of comedy since them has been a spin off from what one, the other or both have already done.
This is the best reaction channel out there. You are smart and intelligent, have knowledge, experience and perspective, have nuanced arguments and opinions, and you don't waste our time at all.
Same here. I was raised Catholic, still celebrate Christmas, but I'm not religious. But people can believe what they want to, it's not for me to tell them otherwise.
George is 🔥🔥🔥 He was Definitely one of the Smartest People!! and He was a True American!! 🇺🇸❤️💯👍😁 and He Warned us years Ago of the Crap goin on Today! 😢
My parents and the rest of my extended family are Catholic, which means I was raised to be Catholic. There are many great values and lessons I learned while attending Mass. But, over the years the Catholic Church leadership and I have parted ways, ethically and morally. I love hearing about other religions. I have not learned any reason to be bigoted towards any of them. Each religion offers some terrific values and lessons to carry through life. So, here's the most important thing I have learned about religion: Each person should find the religion that best helps them become a better person, neighbor, husband, father, sibling, co-worker and friend and causes the least amount of harm to his/her fellow being (not limited to human beings). Once you find that religion, it's ok to tell all those people about your decision... but leave it at that. From that point onward, you keep it to yourself. No preaching. No recruitment. No ill treatment to other beings.
Being bigoted requires treating people as less then you for something they cannot change. You cannot be bigoted to religion, they believe in something they CAN change but will not. This is a choice, one of remaining willfully ignorant if it contradicts ones "Belief". It deserves no respect. People do.
Sure, just completely ignore the possibility of not having a religion... those values don't come from religions mate, they come from society and religions adopt them waaaay to late, then claim they're the source.
Carlin is brilliant. My favorite is Pro Choice. … have live babies so they can grow up to be dead soldiers… is particularly relevant with the Supreme Court recent decision to overturn Roe v Wade. You handled his four letter vocabulary well. The thing with George, his favorite words and a need to wash my ears afterward but he is still brilliant and just as relevant today as he was then.
Loved this reaction. People have the right to believe as other people have the right to not believe. We can argue but in the end we are both just pandering to our bases. Nothing will be accomplished. Can't we just get along?
Great reaction! I liked how you added your comments but still kept the flow of the bit going. I thought it was a great balance. One comment about coveting the neighbors' goods being related to stealing: he already mentioned that as one of the commandments that he grouped in the dishonesty category (so he could've grouped that one with the other two near the beginning).
My neighbor and I just share... Goods, not wives. I got the Chainsaws, hes got the Mega Snow Blower and Table saw, I've got Gardening stuff, he has Landscaping stuff, He is my Jeopardy SportsBall phone call and I help him find the power button on a new computer. Problem we have today is everyone has a lot of cheap stuff... instead of saving for something that'll last and maintaining it.
Keep thy religion to thyself is what I was thinking of just the other day, when I walked into the grocery store and a guy with serious pod people vibes stopped to ask me if I would visit his church.
Yeah, I'd say I'm a Christian if asked but I get really annoyed by itinerancy too. If you follow everything in the Bible (which not a single Christian does) then it does say that they are supposed to go and convert people and spread the religion and whatnot. They love to do that, yet they completely ignore other parts that they don't like. Truthfully we all pick and choose what we follow based on our personal beliefs, and if it's true then those beliefs are god-given right? I can't tell you how many times someone has asked me if I've been saved, and I've answered yes thinking that'll be the end of the discussion, only to then get a volley of Bible verses being quoted and talk about how I should join in spreading the word. They would probably do a lot more good if they were a lot less annoying and just made the information available to people to use to make their own decisions, rather than harassing people at the grocery store.
"Keep thy religion to thyself" is already in the book: "But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words." -- Matthew 6 The best common language summation of the essentials of Christianity I've heard is from the movie "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure." "Be excellent to each other, and party-on, dudes!" That about sums it up.
I love reading theology, don't believe that stuff myself, and love discussing and learning about it regardless. Did a lot of reading in my early to mid 20s with newborns and such.. lol.. Freedom of religion means freedom from religion also.
@@jedimastayoda112 Except that by wanting to force people to give birth you are jeopardizing *their* life, removing *their* liberty and also cutting off their pursuit for happiness.
If you're looking for more Carlin and you haven't already heard it, try his "7 words you can't say on TV". It was on an album called "Class Clown". Since It came out he has done other bits with similar names but what you want is the "Class Clown" bit. That's the original classic.
I'm with George, but to be fair: Ten was the number before our base ten system also known as the Arabic system since it spread through the world in about the 1,100's AD. This was before even Roman Numerals. The Arabic system wasn't yet to be known/discovered until nearly a century after the Council of Nicaea and canonization of the Bible.
You can totally put a Hellcat in your Jeep. Itll be very expensive tho, id def say just go with the Scatpack 392 like you said. (Im a Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram Mechanic btw, this isnt coming from nowhere)
Hello again Mr.Lloyd, I have just tuned into this George Carlin skit which I have seen before but I cannot wait to see your reaction. Yes, this is Carole from Ottawa Canada again. I love this guy but, I must warn you, it is not for everyone BUT it makes you think. Which is what George Carlin was all about. There is nothing wrong with being a non-believer, just as there is nothing wrong with all other minorities of any genre....LGBTQ etc...... I am French but am completely bilingual. As I have mentioned in an other one of your reactions, one has to keep an open mind and listen......not having to change one's life and ideals...but just listen to a different point of view with an intelligent mind......enjoy.......Carole !!!!!!
Here's my interpretation of the big three: be honest and faithful to your lover, don't kill unless in self defense and don't use your faith as a tool of oppression
Whenever freedom of religion is talked of, I use to say I'm all for it if it includes freedom *from* religion too. As long as the non religious can be free from hearing about it and as long as nobody gets hurt, you can believe whatever you want. And nobody who lives in a country with religious freedom can use their religion as an excuse for their behavior. Since religion is optional, it's your choice to follow its rules. And if the rules of your religion goes against the law of the land, if you follow those you have made a choice to break the law as any other criminal and should be held responsible just as them. And any organisation that tells their group to break the law is by definition a criminal organisation and should be treated as such.
Jesus simplified the commandments in Matthew 22:34-40. 34 - But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. 35 - Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, 36 - “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” 37 - Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 - This is the first and great commandment. 39 - And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 - On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
Did he though? From the same book Matthew 5:17 Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. I mean it appears he is just ranking them and not condensing them.
Love thy neighbor doesn't mean to love everyone though, as Jesus explained in the gospel of Luke, the people who treat you with kindness is your neighbor, the people who don't care about you are not considered your neighbor and hence not deserving of your love.
Hey man HUGE fan of your Em reactions! Huge fan of George Carlin too. Thanks for this reaction! I would love to see your reaction to Carlins “Religion is Bullsh**” :)
It just amazes me the number of people who will kick the tires when shopping for a vehicle, but not exercise the same amount of skepticism when eating up holy doctrine.
I realize his raw language takes you aback but he spoke that way and honestly didn't give a da*n who cared or not. For him, these were simple words to convey exactly what he meant and shouldn't be seen as off-colour or 'dirty'. The man's genius was unmistakable, even to those who absolutely despised him for pulling away the covers (and sheets) they hid under. I so wish he was still alive to hear him dissect TFFG (as I refer to him). George would never have tolerated that person. To think what we missed out on!
You impressed me tonight sir with what you said at the end. Pretty much live and let live. Don't remember if you did his lost things video. If not you will find it very funny and less offensive with the language
Considering a complaint against Carlin's 7 words bit is directly responsible for FCC language censorship, I laughed pretty hard when he said, "Language George!" Hahaha
as a kid i grew up going to church. in norway. the boyscout-leader left on saturday. the priest was there, and he said: god go with you ørnulf. (it doesnt work in translation otherwise). the next day the priest ended church with "god go with you", and i yanked my mums arm. over and over... "what is it?" well god cant go with us today. "eh. why?" cos he left with ørnulf yesterday, didnt he? the priest, i've been told, later used that story quite abit... a child that discovers the vast leap between logic and faith... i stayed on logic-moutain, iff you can belive it...
Another great bit since you don't mind the religious criticism, is Ricky Gervais's, Noah's Ark bit, you should also check out some Jim Jefferies a highlight of which is his Taking an MD Sufferer to See a Prostitute story.
I totally agree with you.. I don't belive in God but that doesn't mean I don't have faith... I like you would never tell anyone they should not believe in God..
Not necessary to make the video hard to see with George Carlin, MANY MANY reactors have done reactions to LOTS of George's routines, and they don't blur it out, none of them were blocked. I say this because, George is VERY PHYSICAL in his comedy and with great facial expressions that ADD to his performance. If someone has NEVER seen him, they won't see the "whole package" in his performance. If you do any more reactions on George Carlin, please show it as it is, so everyone can completely enjoy his performance.
Sir, I love your take on this. I think your point is important. I am not myself a militant atheist, but I do not "believe". On the other hand, I do think it is important to understand other people's views. My views are but my own, and they may be incorrect. I simply look to the best evidence we have at any given moment. If better evidence is given, my views will change. I don't think there is such a wide gap between the non-believers and believers. "Believers" of the Christian faith reject all Gods but their own. I simply reject that "they" have the "one true God". In other words, "atheists" and "believers" are only one "God" away from having the same beliefs. We are not that far apart. Interesting thought? No?
More Christians should keep James 1:26 in mind. "Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless."
I was waiting especially for the reaction to coveting they neighbors goods lol. Thanks for this reaction. You're cool man! An open minded intellectual. I see the higher power as more of a spirit that has no impact on our world. What happens here is up to us as a collective conscious.
When I was a boy in Kenya the missionaries would give us candies if we could recite Bible verses and such. I have a very excellent memory. I memorized tons of Bible verses. Soon I was able to start my own little candy shoppe. I was able to put myself though school with that money. Eventually I moved to Hawaii and after that nothing really interesting happened.
Thank you for your reaction. The thing about George Carlin and his commandments routine (Thou Shalt Not Kill) is more killing has been done in the name of religion (regardless of the religion or whatever book anyone believed in) since the beginning of written time. None of it makes any sense.
I could relate to George’s thinking so much. I’m also not religious and don’t believe in God. I have some spiritual beliefs & ideas that I would never try to impose them on anyone else, like I believe so many religious types do. 🙄
The Council of Nicaea...look it up. They literally did have a council to decide what to make the "stupid" people believed in. They made Jesus hunky white with six pack abs. Said you couldn't eat meat on Fridays because of a special interest with the fish industry. It's very interesting how much shit was decided on and then became the myths.
Yeah, it's classic! I seen this skit of his so many times already. Haha. I would watch him often before he passed on to the Astral Realms. 👻 I'm 50% Euro-Jewish, non-religious like most of us Jews, but spiritual with the strong evidence. Hehe.
He was right. In that 10 Commandments can be reduced down to 2. #1. Love God with all your heart, mind and strength. #2. Love your neighbour as yourself.
Those who follow your #1 are the ones who cause the major trouble you know 9/11 and stuff As for #2 neighbors can range from good people to awful people to plain psychopaths can't love them all even if you want to
George Carlin was a Philosopher and a Genius. I don't worship him though... It would be bad on our friendship. Do you know who I pray for? Anyone who disagrees with George Carlin. Om. Namaste. Amen. And all that Bullshit.
I think you would be a great guest for Brian Marshall from Rock 108. P1's would be try'n to suss out the real one! Lemme know if you want the jump-start but I think your content deserves it's own introduction!
Former Mormon here. Yeah, I haven't honestly seen a single religious story that makes a lick of sense. All of them are created to do exactly what he says: control people. Through thoughts, emotions, culture, traditions, etc. And they usually have a separate goal. Mormons wanted to be able to have multiple marriages. They put up a mainstream face and went underground with it when the government told them no, but I'm fairly certain that's what happened. Just ask the three big questions: who makes money on it, who gains social status from it, and who gets screwed by it? Those will generally point you in the right direction. EDIT: And yes, I'm aware I'm screaming into the void here, but if nobody says things that need saying we all suffer.
