Hanafis of India are (rightly guided apart) are innovaters. Mowlood, shirk, grave worship are still rampant in the hanifi areas. And traditional hanafis (of India) never seem to be going against it. So the need arised for Ahul Hadees. Ahul Hadees is to be followed as they are nothing but salafis but using the term salaf might bring fitnah. So they probably didn't want to create the impression of forming a sect. Blind following is what they don't do. Their methodology is the same as salaf. But I hv heard salih al fawzan say one must do taqleed, many b4 him, even bin baz (I'm not sure) said you have to verify. The basic idea is even the 4 imams are humans and they are fallible. And they go against the madhab only when a direct hadees completely opposes the verdict. They take a lot from imam Abu Hanifa, Shafi, Malik, ahmad bin hanbal etc. But they just say that we don't do complete taqleed in verdicts. But io don't think they are against basing your studies upon the foundations of the madhab of your region. Even though I'm frm India, but my land is of Shafi'. So the usool which is available is of Shafi'. And imam Shafi said to throw out his fatwa if it goes against Quran and the sunnah. So basically they are Shafi. All four imams did it. Shaykh Albani says 1) blind following is not haraam as long as it is not taken as religion without any critic. This is allowed for the laymen 3) THE mujtahid. It is haraam for him to blindly follow while he has the tools to come to the verdict. 2) student of knowledge/ establisher of clear proof - take the middle path and not follow the desires.

Asalām-Alaykum. Sheikh Sālih As-Suhaymī has given an example in one of the conference which he attended in the Europe. He has said that a person would be known as a writer, an author, a novelist and so on, all of these different terms referring to the same occupation or the category. Similarly, the terms, Ahlus Sunnah, Ahlul Hadīth, Atharī, Salafī, etcetera, refer to the same group. That being said, we should refer to these terms to describe ourselves when there is a need. We do not go around and boast ourselves with these terms or causing differences amongst ourselves. Some sects have indeed been made under these names, but that is a different topic. Refer to the video of Sheikh Muhammad ibn Uthaymīn on this topic, it is beneficial.

Asalām-Alaykum. I recommend you to read the book which is written by Sheikh Sālih Al-Fawzān, which is translated in English and you can easily find a PDF. Its name is as follows. "Refuting The Doubts Surrounding The Da'wah Of Imām Muhammad ibn 'Abdul-Wahhāb." As by reading this book, we learn that the first argument brought as mentioned by you is false and a lie, or perhaps it has been taken out of context or a portion has been mentioned in order to make it seem as a blasphemous statement. The answer for the second argument lies in this aforementioned book, we say to this that Sheikh ibn 'Abdul-Wahhāb did not make Takfīr or kill the Muslims, rather they were grave worshipping disbelievers whom waged war against him and he fought them.

addu315 - Lots of them are Hanbali in Fiqh, and follow the Aqeedah and Manhaj of the Salaf. Being Salafi (someone who strives to follow the Salaf in Aqeedah, Understanding and Manners) and following a madhab are not contradictory matters.

As far as I know it's Salafi. The great scholars like imam Ahmad etc were Salafi.

The one who is called a "Salafi" refers to the one who strictly adheres to the teachings of Rasulullah(SAW) upon the first three righteous generations of Believers(Sahaba(1st),Tabi'een(2nd) and Tabi Tabi'een(3rd) and the way of Worship Of Allah and understanding Islam as taught by Rasulullah(SAW). The details of the methods of worship in Islam fall under the arabic term "FIQH". THERE ARE ONLY 4 SCHOOLS OF THOUGHT ON THIS TOPIC. Hanafi,Maaliki ,Shafi'i and Hanbali. These 4 schools provide a more clear and simplified way for the believer to be more assured of his efforts in Worshipping Allah are acceptable to Allah. Although no 2 schools are exactly alike,none of the schools contradict each other. The Imams of all 4 schools are renowned scholars of Islam whom none of true guidance refute. Therefore,if a Salafi should choose Imam Maalik's school of thought(Maaliki) and another Salafi were to choose the Hanbali school(Imam Ahmed ibn Hanbal) then you may notice that the Maaliki Salafi may wear a trimmed mustache whereas the Hanbali Salafi may have removed the mustache.......but neither suffers loss of faith simply due to this difference. They follow different schools of Fiqh. Had Allah Decreed that it be any other school of Fiqh that Imam Ahmed were to have followed then the only difference would have been the school itself but the fools would have STILL labeled the students "Wahhabis" simply because the name of the person whom Allah Chose to spark LA ILAHA ILLA ALLAH wa MUHAMMAD AR RASULULLAH in the hearts of the arabian people was Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab.
