Sunsoft originally planned to make a Terminator game for the NES. They lost the license, and we all got the crappy Terminator game from Mindscape. Sunsoft changed a few things (mainly the main character, and the story), and released Journey to Silius. The game is very awesome, with a killer soundtrack, great gameplay, and cool graphics. This hack aims to try to turn Journey to Silius back into The Terminator. This hack replaces the title screen, cutscenes and story, ending, character graphics, as well as altering some enemies and bosses to look more Terminator-like. A big thank you to Kamaal Brown and PasthorRothers, who helped with the spritework, James Proveaux, who colorized the title screen, and 8-bit fan, who smoothed out and tweaked various things in the game! If I were a hacker, I would have made the ending text say something about Reese preparing to travel to the past to save Sarah from the Terminator. Since this entire game takes place in a futuristic setting, it seems obvious to me that this is actually a prequel to the movie, showing Reese fighting his way into Skynet's base to access the time machine.

I was going to say the same thing. Given how much work appears to have gone into this rom hack, it's actually kinda confusing how the person who made it somehow missed the fact that the game is quite obviously set in the future during the war against Skynet.

I remember thinking the same when I played this ROM hack through on my own a few years back. This game is very obviously set during the future war. The first level is not exactly modern Los Angeles, as it looks like it's in total ruins. It's either supposed to be Reese or some other soldier fighting through to Skynet and has nothing to do with Sarah Conner. Even without the ROM hack, Journey to Silius is still very obviously a Terminator game. The 1st level being the ruins after the nuclear war. The 2nd being the tunnels under the city. The 3rd being a factory where the machines are built. The 4th being the main facility / central computer that runs it all. The 5th is a little more obscure as it's more of just an obstacle course but still looks to be more of a factory. Either way, it's set in the future setting of Terminator. Not in the past.

@xtrmst_01 THere's actually an updated version of this hack that solves a few of the problems. Those include the ending, with a better terminator and an ending screen that works better for some rough form of continuity. It basically hints that the final battle was with a terminator before the journey back in time.

sunsoft and natsume games also technos games are magically receiving two localizations in both USA and Europe. In an alternate dimension maybe Brazil would even have their own 4th localized version

I don't know what I'm impressed more by; the quality of this hack, or the walkthrough with NO DEATH. Seriously, every time I try and pick up "Journey to Silius" again, I get wasted on the first level alone!

Whoever made this hack should have left the final boss sprite alone. In Journey to Silius, that final boss represented a terminator without the skin on it to the nines.

This is done very very well on an already great game! Not that Journey To Silius was bad?! Far from it as it was one of the last great NES games of the early 1990's! Sunsoft was denied a killer conversion?! Why?! They did a great job on Batman?! It doesn't make any sense as their track record is better Mindscape crap or the barely passable LJN/Flying Edge T2. It boggles the mind?! Sunsoft deserved the license but the game is still great! The hack fixes, justfies and puts things and as it should be after some 29 years!! Bravo!

Matthew Holyoake Sunsoft wasn’t denied. It costs money to have a license. They had The Terminator and BatMan but couldn’t afford both and choose BatMan.

I'm not a friend of Romhacks, since I've seen every bizarre thing, but this one, however, fits perfectly with said theme, since originally, this was going to be an official Terminator game, only they lost the license, and In order not to lose the entire project, they had to make several modifications and launch it as the game we all know.

I remember my father bringing 2 games.... one of them being Journey to Silius and the other being Guantlet 2.... I never knew JTS at that time in 1989 being a Terminator game that got changed because SunSoft could only afford one licensed title.... BATMAN.

Journey to the Silius was difficult, but Terminator was unplayable. That's why this game rocks and original Terminator on NES sucks. Golgo 13 showed us the perfect way to present a James Bond game on NES and Journey to Silius showed us the way to present a Terminator game.
