Drizzy Jaye I’m late to answering the question but remember how in the movie Hilly had fired Minny because Minny used her toilet. & Throughout the movie Hilly was trying to pass an initiative that would “require every white home to have a separate bathroom for the colored help,” because she believed they carried diseases or something. She then told everyone in town that Minny had stolen from her so that Minny couldn’t find another job. Minny’s a great cook and she’s well known for her chocolate pie. So that’s how she got her back. When she told her “EAT MY SHIT” and Hilly said “Have you lost your mind” she said “No ma’am, but you bout to, cause you just did.” Meaning that Hilly had just eaten Minny’s shit. Minny took a shit, put it in her chocolate pie and mixed it really well so Hilly couldn’t taste it. She didn’t plan on ever telling Hilly what she had done to her, hence why she tells Aibileen “I just wanted to see her take a bite”, but Minny liked Ms. Walters and Ms. Walters was trying to eat some so she had to tell her what was really in the pie. But yeah that’s why Hilly’s looking at it like that and starts gagging. Because she realized she’d eaten shit, literally.

I think what Minny means when she calls it the terrible awful was becsuse she's never done something so bad to another person before. Minny is known for her sass mouthin' as she calls it but what she did to Hilly was very out of character for her hence her saying to Aibileen "I done something terrible awful to that woman and now she know what I done". In the book after the pie incident Mrs Walters calls Minny and asks her to come into work for the day because she doesn't want to be alone waiting for the people from the nursing home to come collect her and Minny goes in and waits with her so whilst she's mouthy she isn't horrible and spiteful like Hilly who goes out of her way to be a spiteful cunt to anyone she doesn't like or anyone who dares to cross her and doesn't fall into line.
Sissy Spacek is such a great actress. I love the look on her face when Minny says, Eat my shit, and she looks from Minny to Hilly and back as if she's thinking, Did she say what I THINK she said!?
After watching it a few times, I realised why the pie scene was incredibly important. Ms. Hilly made it her mission to dedicate a separate bathroom for the ‘help’; she managed to convince herself & the entire town of Jacksonville to believe that the help’s waste matter was riddled with contagious diseases, and they needed to build an outhouse (separate bathroom outside of the home) dedicated for them to use. So, she made her a sh*t pie as payback for firing her & getting revenge on behalf of her friends. Never gets old.
Also, Minnie told Skeeter to include that story in the book because she knew Hillie would claim the story was not about her and the city of Jackson, which would protect the rest of the maids from getting fired by their bosses since they told their stories for the book too.
I may have trouble remembering my own name, or what country I live in, but there are two things I can't seem to forget: that my own daughter threw me into a nursing home, and that she ate Minny's shit.
She's a great cook, so there's only one way, too make the pie mix and crust then as the final ingredient to mix in... just a dollup. You wouldn't want it to stink while warming either...

Imagine eating a shit pie and liking it, then being told you ate a shit pie in front of your mother, and then finding out that moment had been immortalized in the pages of a book sold across the country. I wish there was an epilogue to this movie, because Ms. Hilly probably killed herself just for this.
I really love the small details of this scene the acting is top notch. The look in Minny's eyes as she watches Hilly eating the pie and the subtle way she moves that pie out of Mrs Walters reach and calmly tells her no it's Hilly's special pie. Then Mrs Walters face when she looks at Minny you can tell she's thinking and trying to work out what Minny's up to. And then Hilly's face when she stands up absolutely fuming about to annihilate Minny then with a few simple words Minny turns the tables and that look of disgust on Hilly's face when the penny drops! 😂😂 I'd love to see a behind the scenes on this part I bet they were all trying not to crease up laughing
I watched this film on my Language Arts class because we were gonna take notes about the events that took place in the film and everyone in my class just started laughing when Hilly realized she was actually eating Minny’s excrement.
Omg I was 🤣🤣 at Aibileen’s reaction the utter shock like she can’t believe her ears at what Minny did and to Hilly of all people. In the book Aibileen and Minny are actually very nervous and wary of Hilly because she’s such a nasty piece of work! When the book is released and the family’s read it one is so angry but she states she can’t fire her maid or everyone will know she’s in the book. Aibileen then realises that Minny insisting Skeeter put the pie story in the book protected them all from repercussions and Minny knew full well doing that would mean she paid the price for it because it made things even worse for because Hilly was out for Minny’s blood over it. Hilly had her husband call Leroy’s (Minny’s husband) boss and tells him to fire Leroy and when he asks why he’s told it’s because of Leroy’s (insert racial slur) wife. Leroy beats Minny for it and that’s when she takes the kids and leaves him. Also none of the maids know that Minny took part in the book only Aibileen and Skeeter knew that.
The fact that they made the chewing and licking her fingers sound so loud made me laugh so much!! It really emphasized that Hilly was enjoying eating Minne's pie. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 This movie was brilliantly acted, directed, and produced!❤
That's sad when you're such a horrible person that your own Mama would laugh at you eating shit pie!!! This scene is one of those iconic scenes that will ALWAYS be hilarious and never get old.
Well if u think about it, if Miss Walters hadn’t asked for a piece, Minny would have let Hilly eat the whole thing right there. Once Miss Walters asked, and Hilly insisted Minny knew it was either fess up or let Miss Walters eat it. So she chose to fess up. I think deep down Minny liked Miss Walters and she really didn’t want her to eat the pie.
I made a chocolate pie from scratch and took it to my book group (we were doing the book at the time). Someone actually asked me if I had put that "special ingredient" in it. "No" was my reply. Luckily they liked it. Only enough for one slice each. I'd wanted to make the pie after reading about it. I've also made the caramel cake and deviled eggs that are mentioned in the book.

I’m happy that Ms Walters knew how to treat people with some respect. Celia saw Minnie as her equal but Ms Walters knew herself that her daughter was a bitch and she loved every bit of when Minnie went against hilly.
