I think the biggest issue is that so much of it is vapor. We still haven’t gotten the 7 year old Roadster people forked out $250k (founders) and $50k on, and they still take $50k orders today. Hard to get excited about stuff with no timeline, and when there is one we don’t have it met.

Tesla Cybertaxi the weirdest tech event I've ever seen for now.

My favorite part was when Elon tried to reinvent the bus or train for the 3rd time with the "Van". Last time he even admitted the hyper loop was to distract the public from trains.

There's no practical reason the Optimus robot needs to be shaped like a human. Elon just really likes the idea of owning a human shaped being that he can order around.

I actually kind of get the idea of having no physical override. If you want it to go a round and autonomously pick up black out drunk teenagers, how many would try to take control and do something dumb or accidentally slam the brakes? Although the idea you could see something and not be able to do anything is terrifying. But why would you not at least have manual door handles? Also only 4 seats in a taxi so wild. I thought it might even have 6, but I’ve basically never needed a taxi for just me and one other person. Also not even being wire-charge capable is crazy. It’s WAY more efficient and gives you a backup if the induction receiver or your local pad stops working

My main take is that they made a microcar that doesn't look like a microcar. They put the battery on the back instead of being under people's feets which allows them to make the seats and the whole car a lot lower.

It cracks me up that people genuinely think it’s gonna cost under 30k. Like the cyber truck was supposed to start at around 40k….. and that thing ended up starting at 100k….. so I don’t see the cyber cab costing under 50k

man, tesla really just saw the first 3 minutes of "I, Robot" and went "yeah, we can do that, sure!"

Funniest part about the robotaxi is it is essentially doing what Elon told us the Tesla cars would be doing for us while we weren’t using them. Going out by themselves and performing taxi services to people while we work to make us extra money. Now apparently a whole new vehicle is needed to do this instead of just having a regular model 3 do this task.

I think you may have to change the frame a bit. If you're in the back of a taxi and you see an accident your driver isn't reacting to, you presently don't have an option to brake or steer yourself. You'd just shout, right? I suppose the screen interface is basically the same as alerting the taxi driver. Instead of thinking of the device as a car, it makes more sense to compare it to uber or lyft. Same goes for charging and price... these are fleet vehicles so a per vehicle price is drastically different if you order 1000 and your riders just need to get to their destination (don't need much range or fast charging).
