As someone who has followed you since you were at Battle Red Blog and were trying to convince me and yourself that Brock Osweiler was the answer at QB, I've been waiting for this episode for years.
@@ChewsCarefully to be clear this was as much a joke about me as it was about Brett. We all wanted Osweiler to be the guy. Brett was writing for BRB in a golden age when Steph Stradley, Lance Zierlein, Seth Payne, and even (IIRC) John McClain would occasionally pop in. I think the Osweiler thing took a lot out of all of our sails, but Brett put together some incredible film work and articles about why he thought it would work and it just didn’t.
@@KR-si3dx Ah, okay. I wouldn't know because before '22 I missed about 8 years & that fell into those. Not having channels like this then was why. I find it frustrating to just hear announcers glaze everyone equally while the games are filmed in a way that I can't tell if the receiver got open because of talent or spy-gate mean Bellichick always knew where to send them. I _LOVE_ analysis & wish more people were good at it. His breakdown of how Jones is failing to enact Daboll's schemes can already be regarded as a classic. His attempts to shut up idiots who just mindlessly repeated "Fields can't read defenses" on the other hand has had No Effect. But I'm glad he made it. Maybe in the future I'll look back at that & see if I can anything he did wrong but it's not a high priority. Everyone seems to love Kellen Moore & I've only found one video that nails what he's been doing wrong so far. But if he makes the Eagles' offense slower than it was last season, I have a feeling Brett will be first to show us how he neutered Justin Herbert & made Dak lead the league in INTs despite missing 5 games (although _I_ already know).
@@SpasPumpSpas the Lions have been building towards this for a few years now. The Texans had one decent season and needed a complete collapse by the Jags in order to make the playoffs. Just my opinion though.
@Duuuval23 Yeah both are true. I feel like I pay more attention to the NFL and my team more than the normal fan, so I have been tracking the power shifts over the past few years, but it still feels so bizarre to see the Lions as good as they are.
@@Duuuval23lol stay salty jags fan, yall ain’t doing nothing with the Texans in charge now. We’re considered Super Bowl contenders whether you like it or not
I remember being at a bar on NYE and seeing CJ carve up that elite Georgia defense and I couldn’t grasp in my head how people thought he was gonna be bad in the NFL
He put up 40 on the Georgia defense that had like 9 guys go in the first and second round. He had great receivers but in that game you could tell that stroud was the best player on the field
No, they are not lol. People need to top frowning teams after 1 decent season. They did it with the Jags last year and we couldn’t stand it down here. The team got big headed and believed all the hype. The Texans players are already acting the same way the Jags players did heading into 2023.
Nice chat. I've been on board with the Texans way back before they even named the team. This has been the best offseason ever...coming off of their best offseason ever. It's good times in Houston right now
For the last week, I've been going through the episodes from the start to get my feel on every team going into the season. This has got to be my favorite sports podcast already. You both are objective, knowledgeable, and bounce off each other really well. There's no debate, no yelling, no fluff. You both deliver facts, nuance, and well-researched content. You are setting a gold standard for how sports talk should be. It's a shame mainstream sports talk on television is filled with hot takes and unnecessary debates not backed up by facts. I subscribed earlier this week (also to Brett's Film Room channel). I can't wait to watch more of the previews and in-season content. Cheers!
They had one decent year. Lol. Texans fans act like they have truly arrived. They are not sneaking up on anyone this year. They are also not playing a last place schedule like last year. As a Jags fan, I can speak from experience when I say, do not buy into all the media hype. Our fan base did it last year and so did the team. TheJags arrived a year early, and the team got big headed. The Texans players are talking the exact same way the Jags players did heading into 2023. I’ve heard CJ in numerous interviews basically crown the team. He’s painting a target on their back. Don’t be shocked when a massive let down comes this year.
I’m surprised y’all didn’t mention Jerrod Johnson as a mention for coaches. He’s the Slowik replacement for next season and teams were already trying to poach him from us this season.
I think what makes you guys so good is the fact that y’all are positive but also logical. And that’s how every fan thinks of their team. I think people are tired of the negative and we just want football. So keep it up! Fan for life!
@@kenbutton he's definitely missed on other picks. Jameson Williams is still up in the air. Campbell did next to nothing, except take snaps away from Barnes and Rodriguez. Broderick Martin did nothing, Hendon Hooker may never get a shot. Ludacris statement to say he's hit on all but one pick. He's a great GM but no GM has ever done that.
What I love about what the Texans have done throughout all this is that they've made the obvious moves, every time. Stuff other teams/GM overthink and try to be smarter than the average bear about the Texan just went "duh" and brought in the right players.
As a STM since 2015…this is the first offseason since 2019 that im truly excited for the future of this organization! I knew stroud was the real deal when I saw him play in preseason in person! Go Texans!!!
U guys r fukn great! Just stumbled across y'all and absolutely love the way u break shit down. Very knowledgeable and detailed. Keep it up , new subscriber
Another reason for some teams to “pay less” is state income tax. None for Texas, Nevada, Florida, Washington and Tennessee for states with pro football. The California teams are at a disadvantage
As a Jags fan...Texans are a BIG PROBLEM. Right now I would say that they are better than the Jags. We will see how this year plays out...but in my opinion unless Trevor steps up and becomes a Superstar who regularly makes amazing plays at end of games to create victories...Texans are gonna be tough to beat and we would be lucky to split with them this coming season.
Nick Casario, the mastermind. A question (s) I'd like to ask Nick is the HC progression and the progression of the Watson ongoing saga. He had to buy time as it ran its course he couldn't control until Watson could be traded reaping trade capital. Two drafts, free agents until he had them positioned to go hard after assests. #1 Demeco Ryan's! And the rest his history unfolding before ours excited eyes! Nick knows 3 dimensional chess.
The fact the Bears AND Texans are becoming something is either broken clock right twice situation or the result of so much Kollman Curse being released into one nexus event 😂
I hope the bears build Lovie a statue.never seen one or two plays impact 2 teams so much that changed the trajectory of their franchises. Davis mills is a god.
Just a thought, if you say that teams overperform/underperform relative to their QBS because of how they do in "key areas", shouldn't you in the next year weight it differently?
9 games decided in last drive WHEW 6 - 3 record. Fans grew in clutchness alongside the team 😊 ATL - L NO - W CAR - L TB - W CIN - W JAX - L DEN - W TEN - W IND - W
That’s why I like coming to your channel and listening to you guys because I feel like everybody else was just playing follow leader and acting like we was just the worst team in the league win the Jets haven’t even been to the playoffs in 10 years and no disrespect Baltimore, but they are a regular season team because we know what Lamar is in the playoff another James Harden
As a Tom Brady fan, growing up watching him and manning…. CJ stroud is on that level. To me, he’s one of the greatest quarterbacks I have ever seen. I think there is a tier above Mahomes and I’d put CJ on that level. It has nothing to do with his power, mobility, accuracy deep, reading a defense. I feel a Tom Brady level of calculation in his clutch factor. Not to deminish Mahomes, Brees or Rodgers one bit… but CJ has energy I literally could not believe. I feel like there’s this trend of glorifying QB’s who move defenses as a dual threat. But to me the greatest QB’s move them with their mind. CJ is just that clutch… and he doesn’t even understand the game like a vet yet. I think 10 years from now… we’ll have him up there with Manning.
There was a podcast CJ was on with another young football guy (who played defense) and they had a discussion of 'my best guys on offense (CJ as QB) vs your best 11 on defense in a 4th and long' situation. CJ was very confident on his picks the guys he chose and explains the matchups he wanted to see against the players the other guys chose on defense. Pretty refreshing to hear his process that way.
@@jadenmoyers837 stat wise idk if he even broker top 10 qb’s this year. I’m not talking about stats, I’m talking about how he plays. His ability to read and manipulate defenses with his mind is absolutely insane, and up there with the world class vets. Mahomes, is a freak of nature. But hasn’t displayed this particular ability because he hasn’t needed to. Brett put out a video just today about Manning. And he compared what mahomes would do to what manning would do when they role out. Mahomes can physically do things that no other qb can. But manning uses other mechanisms to get the same result. That’s what I’m saying CJ is. CJ is a display of a young manning brain, extremely advanced for a rookie, with the delivery of the top tier athletic freaks of the modern era.
