The Textbook 555 Astable Multivibrator and How To Determine Timing
in this video we look at the classic NE555 and how to set it up as an oscillator textbook style. We will also look at how the different pins work.

HEY YOU ABOUT TO POST SOMETHING STUPID:
Yes, I know my hands are large/fat. It's because of a heart condition I suffer from called Congestive Heart Failure. Here's a link to some information about CHF: cle.clinic/2TdS2Ux
One of the symptoms is that it causes fluid retention, mostly in the hands, feet/ankles, and face..

The 555 is a virtual learning lab in its self!

I've always payed attention too your 555 videos. Infact I believe this is the first channel I could find that I could understand clearly enough to spark the excitement within me too figure it out myself. After you achieve understanding this circuit, the world of electronics is yours. At least in terms of distinguishing Analog/digital signals. Back to fundamentals never fails. Thanks Paul.

The 555 timer is a tired & true chip, it's been around for decades. Someone had given me a 555 Timer Cookbook from the early 80's that I have around somewhere. It's a very versatile chip.

I love the five fifty five chip. Its the bread and butter of electronics fundamentals. Jam packed with goodness, you get a voltage divider circuit, two operational amplifiers and a flip flop chip. The learning opportunities for beginning EE majors and electronics hobbyist and tinkers are near endless! ❤555❤

I've been watching electronics videos for several years now and I was beginning to think that I was the only one that still called it a five fifty-five timer. It seems like most everyone either calls it a "three fives" timer or a "five five five" timer. I kinda figured it was because I learned in the early 90s.

Paul I’ve watched your previous 555 timer videos and I personally feel this is one of the best. I think I’ll put all the different setups on a bread board so I can visualize and compare each one . Thanks for sharing Artie 👍 and I will checkout your patron channel

Paul your channel like others I follow, appear to be slowly pushed aside by RU-vid. Once, it appears the videos you and other produced developed followers who received information, you as authors received financial compensation. How much is not the issue, then the rules arrived! Now most of you are relegated to selling ads or"patron" like sites. As I do not participate in the financial issues I don't know much about any incentives or other issues. I think it's sad how little you all are compensated and leashed by RU-vid (Ala ABC- 'google'). It's like a musical group receiving pennies on the dollar while the rich record company receives huge profits. This realization and in the information your channel provides has inspired me to investigate supporting you through patron. I am retired on 'SS' but I find value and enjoy your channel. Keep up the excellent output. Like another commentator I have the "555 cookbook" an insightful reference book, but your video was very helpful. I wish you would do the initial formulas math grumbled the lazy old msn- ha ha ha! I will be researching other 555 circuits you've produced. Waiting for the next video!

How hard would it be to modify this circuit to make a phone-ring circuit??

Hey Paul! First off I like your videos, you’re much more informative than my former electronics professor. Got a question for ya if you got time. I’m trying to build a phone charger powered by a model stationary steam engine. The output of the generator is about 3v and I think I need a voltage multiplier. What do you think? If yes can you do a video on how to build a circuit for a voltage multiplier on the bread board? Thanks -Stephen

Nice to see what hardware alone can do. I happen to enjoy programming. But I'm afraid the mcu based units are more of a slippery slope towards idiocracy than star trek. Maybe not. But I do wonder what effect arduino et al is having on the future generation of EEs.

I use them a lot they make ok signal generators. But if I need a clean low noise free 50% duty cycle square wave I have found that our old friend the CD40106 Schmitt trigger ic chip is the best option. Your thoughts?

An ST oscillator is great! Either one with temp control got stability

@@learnelectronics Thanks for the reply. Have you ever used the CD4024BE IC chip? I used one to build a 3 Bit Stair Step Generator circuit. I’m going to be using it in a Curve Tracer circuit.

Discard the pull up resistor @ (Vcc-pin7)..and remove the top end of the lower resistor from pin7 and connect it at pin 3... Now one should have a nearly 50% duty cycle..... Trim R or C for the reqd. freq. accordingly.

Why is the DMV meter not able to measure the correct frequency of the LED blinking rate? It's giving a false measurement

You need to have a reference schematic to go with the video.
