I lived on koh Chang (Thailand ).I rented a house in the jungle from a Thai family who had 8 Thai ridge back dogs. they used these dogs to hunt. Definitely tough dogs, but the one thing that ruled was a cat called Wan Wan... Not one of these dogs would even think about messing with Wan Wan...

I used to have one, Momo. She was normally a loner compare to other dogs we owned during that time. Then one day my cousins were playing in our garden when a snake came near them when suddenly Momo rushed from her fave resting spot and charged into the snake, killing it. Fortunately the snake wasn’t poisonous but the event shocked everyone. Since Momo was always enjoy the time by herself, no one expect she was also guarding the house. And no one spotted that snake until Momo was fighting it. She lived a long life, too, passing away peacefully at the age of 15.

Absolutely! Extremely important to research this animal for sure. Im in my 60s no way would I be able to handel that dog. His eyes were piercing. Toataly focus'ed.

She was saying that people shouldn't get them just because of the looks, *without* considering the fact that they are a "high maintenance" breed requiring the right living conditions and surroundings, and an owner capable and willing to put in the time and effort needed.

Once I saw your title I clicked to view right away. I love Thai ridgeback. Mine was just passed last years. She was just 11 yrs old. We were so shocked. The vet said we didn’t neutered her when very young. She was the heart of family. She was so alpha. Wanted to be only one dog in the house we tried to get another dog so she could have sister or brother but never worked. She was very excellent with kids and very so protective of the family and aware of surroundings. She was so active and stay in great shape. People always came to ask us about her how gorgeous she was. I missed my Chichi. Thanks for great video.

One of my friends used to have a gorgeous black Thai Ridgeback. Absolutely stunning; hands down the most beautiful, stoic dog I've seen. My friend had to be careful about who was allowed over since the dog didn't take kindly to everyone. I was fortunate enough to be accepted. One day, I decided to check one of my hypotheses and "test" the dog. I was sitting on a couch, dog relaxing next to me. I start thinking of some anxiety-inducing things and can feel a slight panic well up inside me. I didn't say a word, didn't change my posture or anything. Within seconds, the dog picked his head up, looked at me, and growled. I immediately put those thoughts away, and the dog resumed his nap. It was mind-boggling. The slightest imperceptible change in attitude or demeanor could set the dog off. I have never met a more intuitive breed.

I have scars from him over my both hands, he never attacked my father, mother or my younger sister, only me time to time. He started fight for dominance over me from my 14 to 16 years, then he stopped again. You never could touch or even walk arround his bowl / dish, lair or sratch him on wrong place without seeing his long pointy fangs and dragon like face, never saw so nightmarish and elegant dog, but he realy was big heart dog :)

As a Thai I can confirmed this statement, our dog looks like the one that showed here, orange color, pointy ears and mean looks. He lives two house which brought us , my neighbor and I to know each other. he would walks around the block just to check things up like a stray dog, both our house have a big gate that we need to open for him. It’s just blessed to have him around. The funny part is that when we’re not sure where he is we need to call each other to check if he’s there or not😂

My grandma used to have a very cute Thai ridgeback with beautiful red coat. He looked like he was made of copper with his shiny fur. He was mostly friendly except with people who act weird (drunk people), wear black jackets or drive black cars. This breed is very smart . I remember the dog walked to get snacks from a store near the house and made my grandma paid after him😂🤣🤣. If you raise them with a lot of socialisation, they have potential to become family dogs, good with kids and strangers.

I know someone where I live who has two. I've called at their house as part of my job, and they're always very careful to make sure that the pair of them are locked away before they open the door. I don't mind waiting 😄

I have a Thai Ridgeback and two kids one 9 month old and the other almost 3 years old, they are totally fine together, my daughter keeps playing with him all day and he has never tired to harm her, I also have lots of people coming in and out of my house and he has never tried to bite anyone although he never stops barking at them even if he knows who they are, he even barks at me before he actually knows its me coming though, my dog acts first and thinks later.

My grandma had one of these. He literally jumped and snatched a bird mid-air. I was little, but I always fed him with bones I collected to feed him when I went over my grandma’s. My parents wouldn’t let me pet him, but I always secretly did when I deeded him. My grandma was old school so she allowed him to go out, but he would always return. One day he returned heavily bruised and our neighbors said he got jumped by a bunch of other dogs. They said he was greatly outnumbered, but he never stopped fighting. He died after that from the wounds. They are one of the most loyal dogs; and tough as a nails. I miss him every time I see one.

I have dog sanctuary in Thailand and I currently have seven puppies, not 100% Ridgeback, but two are unmistakable to that of a purebred but will be smaller. I rescued their mother after she was covered in ticks and about to give birth in the woods. I know a purebred is what everyone likes but if you can find it in you, there are five boys and two girls and they have awesome personalities. They were born February 5th and usually I can go around advertising to give them away to good homes, but because of the Coronavirus lockdown I have nowhere to take them and I have 22 already from previously saving them from almost certain death. I do this all on my own and I am always scraping by and 7 more going to be so much harder as I'm already separated into three sections of my land and even then there is an occasional scuffle. I would ship it to the United States as it is very easy and I would pay for it if it wouldn't be convenient for you but it's only $300 average. If you if you would like to see the pictures or anything please let me know if not no big deal. And yes they do have done spiked fur down their back and they had beautiful silky short hair and are hyper in play and also in affection but are truly awesome, I only want them to have the best chance at a great life and although I could love them and be with them is only one of me and I have so many so many and yeah it's really sad for me but I know I know they could have more attention but they deserve because their so loyal . @@jamsaidemelo1367 Well, I moved here 18 years ago when I was 20 from Wisconsin. I had to bottle feed these guys and they have been by my side like 18+ hours a day since that were born so I don't really want them to go to a Thai person, as 90% of them don't go out of their way to vaccinate or give flea, dewormer, etc and I just know that within a year at least 4 won't be alive and possibly more. Even then usually low quality as most are left with parasites and never allowed indoors. Really sad too as vets are insanely affordable and so much experience with major diseases. parvo treatment is less than $30 and if treated immediately always survive. $ 100's -$1,000's in USA and very fatal. Mind you there are some Thais, small minority, that are great.owners. often I would find European, american retirees or residents as they have a better chance. Thanks for your suggestion and my sister and mother will ask some of the many people they know. If not all, I will find someway to accommodate them. : )

Lived in Thailand for 4 years. They're everywhere. They're great dogs. Fierce. Imagine packs of 10-20 street dogs just waiting for you to walk down that alley. Lol it can happen. Most are great. Lots of people have pet Thai ridgebacks. Dogs live like cats in Thailand too, dogs don't live inside, mostly just roam their area. I think years of them living like that contributes to the Thai ridgebacks slightly wild personality you don't see in a lot of other dogs. I wouldn't want to keep these in a small space.

I live in Cambodia, and the breed has definitely migrated here. We have two ridgeback farm dogs. Their coat is a bit longer, and they are light brown in colour, but they look much like that one. They are fairly common in the rural communities. Ours are big babies with us, but very protective. They are outstanding at hunting rats and mice, but they never touch the chickens or ducks. Never a problem with kids, as they just avoid them, but would face down a tiger to protect them. Superb dogs.

People often ask me if my TRB is a Xolo. They do have similar bodies, and my TRB has a velvet coat so sometimes people think he is hairless. I have a neighbor who has two dogs that are a mix of TRB and Xolo. They look pretty strange.

We have two Phu Quoc ridgebacks, which are very similar to the Thai ridgebacks (smaller and Vietnamese). Couldn’t agree more. They are a massive handful. Beautiful, quirky, very intelligent, and always entertaining.... but endless challenges. Not for everyone.

I had a blue Weimaraner very hyper dog she had to be run an hour and 15 minutes in the morning & another hour and 15 minutes in the evening . She also had severe separation anxiety . If she was left alone she would destroy something out of spite . This dog seems very similar . Beautiful dog , but a lot of responsibility that goes with it .

If i am not mistaken, the skin comes from generations of using them as fighting dogs and really just shows how cruel and sad the lives of their ancestors were. I can forgive/understand many things, but to force dogs into fights for your entertainment is evil x 10.

@@JamesJackson-fb1iz You are mistaken. The extreme skin comes from breeders in the west thinking its cute. Look up the difference between bone and meatmouth shar peis. The bone mouth is the most similar to the original.

Looks like it was bred with the Shar-Pei at some point. Similar skin allergies and bone mouth structure with wrinkles. Very interesting breed.

James Robert I agree. I don't think it's an urban dog. I can't imagine having this around children. She said the dog still gets upset with her friends that come over. Takes an hour or two to chill out?! Awful

I had a giant Catfish I called Goblin who lived for years & a Staffy cross Doberman called Guin who was identical to this beautiful dog. Interesting to consider the breeds & their origins.

Im looking for a naturally aggressive breed type, Caucasian Shepherd springs to mind, I’ve had many large breeds and I’ve tried to make them into good guard dogs but they all end up like Scooby Doo and would lick you to death, the best guard dog I’ve ever had was a Yorkie, she would try to rip your ankle off if you came near the property, she was a terror to anyone she didn’t know! Never had a Rottie so one of those is an option, i just want a breed that guards me and then the property but is LARGE.! Malakli Kangal or Alabai are also on my radar! Love your shows btw, keep them coming pleeeease!! Stay safe peeps! ✌🏻♥️😎

Animal Watch yes, beautiful breed, the only problem i have is recall, i don’t do leads unless absolutely necessary! I have a pitbull cross french mastiff atm, Hes a BIG softy but he’s 11 now and showing his age! Im a british bushcrafter/wild camping and need a BIG companion that responds well to commands and will happily sit😎 by the fire at night 🔥 on natural guard duty! ✌🏻♥️

What an ignorance. Eating dog has never been common in Thai culture and has been made illegal for years. Thai people in general are against eating dogs just like most others around the world.

My favorite breed is a Rottweiler. Highly intelligent, creative thought processes, very strong. Might make a good team member with this dog for home/family protection.

Wow, that's really unique looking dog, has a real presence about him too. Don't think I've seen a dog look so 'on' as him, he was constantly working. Love the look of him but think he could def be a handful!

To me. This is how the quintessential dog should look. Used to own a pure blue nose pit bull, his name was Tank. He had those haunting yellowish golden eyes, for upon first sight will take your breath away.
