I'm sitting here in my car in the park, listening to this while tears flow down my cheeks... currently unemployed and homeless (living in my car). Each time, I feel like "giving up," and feel hopeless, I look at the word "HOPE" taped to my dashboard above my radio, and I go on. I realize life can truly change in an instant, in an hour or even a day, and keep the faith. I know I will someday rise above all I'm dealing with and be forever grateful I DIDN'T give up! 🤗 Wish me luck!
gotcha beat we started into this trip in 12th grade if I can remember THAT FAR back. I was a teenager and this was hitting the FSU Alt radio station and 2 particular dance clubs. Club 506/Late Nite Library and CPA downtown. THE BEST OF TIMES the 80s
it's so funny and annoying at the same time when people overusing expressions like "... is a genius" - he is a good musician, had his good times, he had his bad times, just an human, that's it :-)))
Agree. This video should have at least 10x the views. I went through a big The The phase late 80's/early 90's. Matt Johnson is certainly a genius, and Johnny Marr isn't too shabby a guitarist either!
Fantastic album, love this version but the album version with the accordion is unbelievably good, the lyrics are so deep and searching, it will be my funeral song for sure :-)
One of the staple in my playlist....gonna play this over and over all day....when THIS pandemic ends.....miss the best time being young during the 80s...the Generation of great artist and music....The The.....
I'm fan of The The from more than twenty years... Matt's music helped me so many times... I didn't have opportunity to attend in The The concert, but maybe in the future.
Wow. I only recently discovered this song and I've been listening to the studio recording over and over again. This is an absolutely incredible alternate take. I'm going to listen to it again immediately. Leave me alone.
I listen to this song regularly because it's effing wonderful, but this is the first time that I have seen this live version. It is superb. Please come to South Africa, Matt.
Perfect lyrics to a 20 something yo guy in the completely headless decade of the 1990ies. Most of the time I was just waiting for the perfect day to change my life. It happend fotunately a decade later when I finally met the woman I love until today. But this outstanding song brings back so many bittersweet memories.
WOOOO! So glad a new generation will discover this wonderful band!! Congrats on the GTA Online placement!. Saw you at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver in .. the 80s . you guys were AMAZING. one of the best sounding concerts i've ever been to.
Were they more popular in the UK , Australia ? I’ve loved them from the beginning - or close to it . One of the first albums I bought . Wish I still had it . Soul Mining , was it called ? Never worked out how come they’re nearly never spoken of when 80s music is hashed over or played .
Best concert 1992 St. Petersburg FL., They opened for Depeche Mode. They sang and crawled around the Floor in front of us all. These fellas fucking ROCKED MY LIFE.
From St. Pete my friend, wish I could have been there for this one. Wow, amazing lyrics, so powerful, that harmonica, I think accordion with it would have been cool ...
Soul Mining is a massive album for me. Another amazing Some Bizzare band. I’d put this on in the dark, headphones on and play it incessantly. 1983 aged 14.
Probably my overall all time favorite artist-can't get enough of them...I remember first hearing "Giant" at a party and was intrigued-found that jacket and I was off...I bought the 10 minute vinyl version of Uncertain Smile sometime after that and then Soul Mining and I was hooked. Still have the vinyl...Cheers!
They were so left field . Lyrically complicated musically seemingly simplistic buy fat from it. The collaborators with Matt Johnson ... Johnny Marr, Jules Holland , Nenah Cherry and his team. They are hugely underrated and it stands the test of time
Matt Johnson is one of the greatest talents that England EVER produced. I bought Infected as soon as it came out and converted many to the greatness of that album every track is pure genius
Heard this (thanks to my sister) in 1983, I was 20. June 2024. if you don't have tears in your eyes, you don't get it and if you don't get it you may be one of the lucky? No so sure. One of the greatest songs ever penned. Bitter sweet. Thank you Matt.
As a DJ, I would play this song (vinyl) in this run-down dance Bar in NB, Canada. Played it almost every day for several months... because I thought some of the patrons needed therapy,
That harmonica playing is simply heaven, I'm torn which version I prefer. But going by the meaning of the song as being stuck in your bedroom faffing around wanting change, wallowing in self pity but actually not doing anything about it -the amateurish and deliberate use of a bontempti / casio organ which we all had in our bedrooms the 80s is pure genius
I remember this song from when i was a child on top of the pops UK, especially the guy with the harmonica . Oh i just heard it on the movie 'i feel pretty' oh my God such a lovely childhood memory. Specially as an adult when someone tells you 'this is the day ur life will surely change, this is the day when things fall in to place' tells you something strong 💪 Lots of love THE THE
Damn! I was supposed to see them then too!! In Seattle, but the line to get in was so long that I missed them completely! Still kills me. I could hear 'The Violence of Truth' starting from outside, everyone going wild inside and just wanted to leave lol. I did watch Depeche Mode play and Martin Gore saved the night for me. It wasn't quite the same though. The The was the whole reason I was there.
I think this is the same harmonica player from the "Dusk" live tour (Johnny Marr played harmonica on the album). Just killing it. This song, no matter which version, lifts my sunken spirit. Bless The The.
Cheers Matt. Love it. Takes me to a place where a lost friend introduces me to Soul Mining. What a pleasure. Feel like a fine time to pass onto others who haven't encountered the beauty ❤️
