Thanks so much for posting this; I just saw the episode last night before seeing this. As a kid watching Green Acres for the first time back in the 60's, I loved it, but now that I'm older I realize the brilliant writing, acting, and off-the-wall insanity that was Hooterville, or as Eva/Lisa would say: "Hootersville". Eva and Eddie were close friends before, during and after the run of the show, which is part of the reason their chemistry was so believable and the casting was perfect. The first few episodes really didn't reveal how wacked-out this series would become.
As originally conceived the show was supposed to be about Oliver's ineptitude as a farmer. In the early episodes, Lisa is far less of a ditz, Mr. Kimball is normal, and the other characters are less zany. In short order, the show shifted to Oliver playing straight man to the zany characters around him.
WE love the episode where Oliver doesn't believe Arnold ZIffel can write and sign his name, so, sneakily, Arnold orders a statue from Mr.Haney and signs Oliver's name on the invoice order :P!!! SO HYSTERICAL!!!!!
@Thou Swell That was one of the show's key 'meta-narratives'; He wanted to be a farmer but was a total 'fish out of water' whereas she didn't want to be there but fitted in perfectly... One of the greatest comedy shows ever.
Good classic laughs without the need for vulgarity rtc. It's like watching WML. Wait a minute. They appeared together as the "mystery" guest on one of the episodes,of that show as well., mentioning what else-"Green Acres.". And yes, John Charles Daly was the voice-over that explained that show as well. What a voice that guy had.
I laugh at this...everyone would be confused on what this is...and only Lisa sees it. Oliver hates it so much but can't hurt Lisa's feelings. What is he to do? He tries to get rid of it without her knowing...
