Thank you for doing this video! Been checking RU-vid frequently to see if anyone has uploaded a video like this and I am very excited that you have! Super excited to play this game
Really nice explanation and review. Love the little "theater" gameplay examples you provide and the criticism seem fair. The Thing is my favorit movie of all time and I would love to play this game but it seems like a big undertaking getting the right group together.
That's a very good review. I bought this game a few weeks ago and want to try it out on Saturday. I have 3 players so far, aiming for at least 6. Fingers crossed that I can get enough people. I've watched 2 play-throughs and this review but still feel I need to immerse myself in the alien activities. Do you feel it's worth playing solo mode just to get the feel or the 1-3 is too different from the 4-8?
I played it 1-3 before I tried it with a larger group. For me, I don't think it really helped that much, since the mechanics were too different. If it's just for the feel, I would do a single "pretend" round alone with the 4-8 rules before game day. Either way, I hope you have fun 😁
You did a great job reviewing this game. 😊👍 I’m a HUGE fan of the John Carpenter Movie & I also love hidden traitor mechanics in Board Games, so I just needed someone who’s familiar with this particular game homage to the Movie, to explain the core mechanics of the game, so that I could decide whether it does a good enough job of recreating the growing suspense & mistrust of the characters in the Movie, while providing an enjoyable enough experience for any players willing to invest the time necessary to learn the rules & play the game to one of its many possible conclusions… You did an excellent job of providing a commendably balanced explanation of the game’s strengths & weaknesses & have convinced me that it’s definitely worth purchasing, albeit I may well end up having to play it solo much of the time, or with fewer than the maximum number of players mostly, so I’m now keen to learn how the game handles the theme when playing solo (I actually enjoy solo games quite a bit anyway, plus it certainly cuts down on heated disagreements… 😉) & am very grateful for the review that you provided. MANY THANKS! ✌️😎
The Miniatures are an EXACT likeness to the actors in the first movie, so I don't agree with you about their quality. To do a game based on the original film was always going to be difficult, and I think they've done an excellent job.
Hello !! little question, when a human uses a shotgun or a revolver to repel the reveal alien, does the human figure have to lie down afterwards, preventing him from playing again afterwards?
These fire and alien tokens are different. Not available in the 2 additional token sets. I would like to buy these but they are nowhere to be found. anyone got a tip for me to buy?
If it's the kickstarter edition, it should come with the game, since it was a stretch goal. Though, if it's retail, you may have to buy them through a third party or wait a bit, since the campaign also stated: "other stretch goals will only be available as a separate product at an additional cost."
As someone with The Thing Outbreak at Outpost 31, as well as Who Goes There 2nd edition, I skipped this because I can't dedicate 3 spots for the same game lol. Good decision or did I miss out?
@@nipzie same reason here, but those rules are just so terrible the game is a chore to play. Outpost 31 I absolutely adore and every game I've played has been wonderful. Now that's only 3 games because of the high player count, but still
Sadly, I did not back the expansion 😔 Since I didn't do any research on the game at all, and purely went in based on my fondness for the film, I stopped myself at the base pledge.
