Bakker inspired me to read philosophy as well. I'm not even kidding. It's a series that leaves a gap no other can fulfill. It's a common sentiment among fans.
I can completely understand, I'm definitely putting Iron men & Saints by Harold Lamb on my list, as well as just having an urge to learn about the actual crusades.
Aspect is my most anticipated series for next year at this point. Hopefully starting late next month. I gotta knock out some stuff I put off for the trilogy. But sweet Sejenus, im excited 😁
Yeah man, I hear you. At some point you just have to say to yourself that hey, I read slower than some people, but that's just the way my brain works, everyone is different, it is what it is, and there is nothing wrong with that. As long as you enjoy reading and it stimulates your mind, you're doing good.
With this series I sometimes feel like Scott Bakker read the bible and thought something like "this was not dark and dastardly enough, so let me tell you what really happened back then..." I will be reading the rest of the series when i allow myself to buy new stuff (budget...)
I feel like you really grasped Bakker's style. His tempo, his themes. Everything you said in this video is exactly my thoughts. Form how he builds tension to how he ends the story and prepares the future. And what a future...
Bakker wont answer everything. He will answer much but he will also let you contemplating for years and thats something I love about his writing. I cant stop thinking and wondering about these books
Great review! Bakker is a life-changer. Have you read Malazan Book of the Fallen? The author of that series, Steven Erikson, recommended Bakker (that's how I learned the series existed). Based on what you liked about Bakker, I believe you'll love Malazan as well, Two best series out there imo
@@slowlyred2082 Deadhouse Gates is my favorite book of the Malazan series. There's a common feel to both Bakkers crusade and the Chain of Dogs. I think you'll enjoy it.
Your joy and excitement in reviewing this book made me relive my own reaction when I finished reading this trilogy...and then realizing I had no idea how long I had to wait until "The Judging Eye" was published. As usual, fantastic job, Mark. Thank you and welcome to the tribe, brother.
Just wanted to say that I really appreciate you taking a look at these books. Bakker's stuff has a tendency (for me) to ruin other fantasy fiction. I've mulled making some deep analysis/discussion content on a TSA specific channel, but it's just so dense.
@@slowlyred2082 Was trying to get ahold of @Werthead on Twitter to see if he’d be ok with me adapting his work “A History of Earwa” but so far no response.
Oh man i love this series. I really want to get around to reading the second series next year. One thing that i don't see mentioned enough about this book is just how frigging awesome the history of this world is. Biomancers from another dimension stranded on the planet trying to decimate the population so that they can hide from whatever they fled and having a giant ass floating fortress made out of flesh and all sorts of creepy creations that fight for them??? I mean, man! That stuff is deserving of a triology in it's own.
I can't help but notice how during the review of TDTCB you resemble the Men of the Tusk in Momemn; and after finishing TTT you're very much like the Men of the Tusk after Caraskand. Well, can't say I'm surprised - been there, felt the same way hahaha
Sounds awesome! I'm having a hard time getting my hands on this third book, but as soon as I do I am going to dive into this trilogy. Great video! Happy Reading and Happy New Year!
I definitely find it amazing 👌 I'm actually trying to find the 3rd book in the next series, currently got the first two. Thank you 🙏 And happy reading!!
