I feel like first past the post and tactical voting goes somewhat against democracy. I prefer a system where you can vote for your favourite and are not forced to vote for somebody only to prevent another candidate who you don't like.
@@danielmcgibbon8200 In Poland we have Proportional Representation in Sejm - the ruling party won in Sejm, and has comfortable majority in it. In Poland we have FPTP system for Senate - The opposition made a senate pact, which meant that ruling party doesn't have majority in senate despite winning. Proportional Representation is more democratic, and it's proven by our election in Poland. Also senate is fortunately unimportant, and can be overruled by the Sejm.
Daniel McGibbon proportional representation makes room for extremist parties (how the nazis came into power) something like alternative voting is much more effective in my opinion...
@@DracoSalieri No its not a knock on labour. Its a knock on Conservatives for the whole "Factcheck UK" Incident . 1984 is about Totalitarianism not communism . Fun Fact , 1984 was banned in the USA for being communist and banned in the USSR for being ant-communist
No, it is a totalitarian dystopia. Orwell deliberately wrote it to be impossible to call the party fascistic, nationalist socialist, or communism. Regardless, as bad as you may think any given party, I dont think any of them are quite that bad.
@@lookowl4693 I think it's about totalitarianism, not fascism or communsim. However I could be wrong. I may be doing a "double think". Please don't call the "thought police" on me
@@MrCoolbanna The names come from scots gaelic. And by "normal" place names you mean places like Sandy Balls in Hampshire or Cockermouth in Cumbria, yeah?
The amount of disinterest and disrespect you see for Scottish and Welsh culture - them not getting pronunciation right is the least of your problems. Honestly while not comparable to the sheer Imperial hell Britain collectively put places like Ireland and India through, makes me wonder why the UK still exists.
Antti Björklund doesn’t matter if he loses Uxbridge. If the conservatives win then Johnson will probably ask someone in a safe seat to stand down for him
AV was rubbish the lib dems sold out for the taste of power, ill never forgive them for that , the referendum should of been " do we need to change the voting system yes or no "
Lord of the Pies has Brexit not taught you the dangers of a vague option. They’d never reach a consensus on a new system in parliament. The main parties would downvote everything.
I've never been so depressed going into a GE in my life. One of the worst governments ever, but with an absolute clusterfuck of opposition parties and a general population that far too often seems happy reveling in their own lack of knowledge. Just awful.
@@oliver8928 Centerism has totally failed the working and middle class. There are no meaningful centrist parties because of this. Same goes for the US and many other European countries. Neo liberalism has failed
The Kirkcaldy seat that was mispronounced also cant win a snp seat unfortunately as the candidate was suspended from the party in late November which was too late to change the ballot. Lots of controversy over it here right now!
You said Esther and Walton. Esher is pronounced Eesher like email. Totally counter intuitive, I know. I was ridiculed when I moved near to it 30 years ago. It stings, but I'm nearly over it.
Great imagery, because whatever fearmongering has been sown about Corbyn, the Tories have a long track record of betraying their espoused values, and throwing various groups under any bus that is passing by at the time. Anybody who doesn't realise that hasn't chosen to look closely.
I'm not in favor of a two-party system but if you're going to have first-past-the-post you might as well have a two party system because this is f****** madness
2 ridiculous things: - Dennis Skinner losing his seat is utterly crazy. The man has fought non-stop in parliament for his constituents for longer than many of us have been on this planet. It would be a loss for politics. - The fact that an election in both the US and the UK are decided in just a few seats. Utterly ridiculous. We need proportional representation. We can't go on with this ridiculous system where parties can receive more votes overall, but not have a majority. It's ridiculous that small parties can receive upwards of 4,000,000 votes and have 0 seats. I don't agree with UKIP, but that is what happened in 2017.
Great video. Bloody love your content. I'm basically convinced now that your odd 'mistakes' in the videos are actually Easter eggs that show how much we pay attention.
I have no idea how Tories keep winning. I lived in Sheffield where I literally met no one who would vote Conservative or even have a half-decent opinion about them. Even in London everyone below the age of 30 had a negative opinion about Tories and votes Labour (some girls even ask if you're a Tory as one of the first questions because it's a red line for her). Is it like the USA, where is 51% votes Tory, but 49% votes Labour in that county Labour votes are effectively ignored? This must be the case. I have no idea how dumb systems like this survive in the 21st century. I live in Lithuania, where if 70% of the population votes for a party the party gets 70% of the seats! Simple and fair!
It is like the USA in that sense, you're right. And while it would be good to change the voting system, as most people who are interested in politics want, most people don't care, and why would the ruling party willingly change away from a system that they just won?
Hitler too was only a symptom of his socioeconomic /politic circumstances and media longing for Authoritarian leadership, Faschists are scary because they are successful( with the uneducated) .
@@fionafiona1146 Fascism appeals to the educated too, possibly more so given that "educated" means regurgitating input received, so those more inclined towards that will also be more inclined to absorb and accept government propaganda and "authoritative voices".
@@ChrispyNut Then education has a quite different meaning to you. I define it as thought formally, on the example of content but focused (across subjects) beyond opinions on the methods of research, analysis and reasoning used to improve one's understanding... your schools might have been different. Obviously Faschist organizations often a split in leaders who are well educated, connected, financed and spoken who stand to profit from policies (even those written for public entertainment) and followers whose connections are based on many statements to half(-truths) and the general feeling those evoke.
Probably worth adding that the SNP literally can't win Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath since they kicked their candidate for the constituency out of the party.
Hi @TLDR News, I may be wrong but I believe your seat data you show in the video is from the November MRP model. I've come to this conclusion since if you go to yougov's website or click the link in your description (which links to the December 10th model) the data for seats doesn't match the ones you show in your video [For Example See: Cities of London and Westminster]. Even if I'm wrong I thought I should point it out to be checked since for the example of Cities of London and Westminster like others you've shown the second biggest party changes and could effect tactical voting decisions especially considering this video was published on polling day.
Ochehill and South Pershire: Conservative Hold Gordon: SNP flip Wexham: Conservative Flip West Bromwich East: Labour Hold Kensington: Conservative Flip Cheltenham: Lib Dem Flip
In South Thanet our tory MP was found guilty of election fraud about a week before the election and still won with 60% of the vote so I feel my vote is entirely worthless but I'm gonna do it anyway.
adian YES, and I've just spent the morning ferrying the old ladies from our local home up the road to vote....all Tories! I think we in Perthshire will go Tory after all....
adian No not at all. I work in an elderly care home. It was my day off and it is bitterly cold here in Aberfeldy so I offered to drive the residents up....each one asked me to show them where the Tory box was on the paper! And very loudly too. It was funny actually.
wait, I thought it was illegal in the UK for journalists to talk about polling and election issues during election day until the voting was over? Or does the content not pass the line?
I can't believe it's are 3rd election in less than 5 years it shows how unsure/divide we have become about Brexit, climate change, imagination the NHS and who our prime minister should be.
@Fhjthnl Lol Iuyo "left wing police state"? There's enough nonsense being spurted by the politicians and media without listening to alarmist fantasies like that :D It's a sad day when people vote in the very same elitist, Conservative government that has decimated swathes of the country over the last decade, with the delusion that they are somehow some rebellious progressive alternative.
@Fhjthnl Lol Iuyo so what "demands" have affected you negatively? Cleaner beaches, safe food regulations, employment rights? Basically you're just spouting right wing media bollocks
Yo do Sinn Fein always win the same seats? I've got to admit I've not paid too much attention to NI in previous elections because the parties there confuse me. Why does the DUP exist?
I Like Google Plus England seeded the county of down with English loyal Ulster Scots and gerrymandered the electorate to ensure the devolved government always sided with its interests. Sinn Fein keeps getting more competitive but I only support them for the sake of a unification referendum. I don’t vote for them if theirs a green candidate standing basicly.
@@ringodooby Cool I vote Green too. Irish independence is complicated, it's not my place to speak on the issue, and people get violent. But for what it's worth, I hate rich English people too. Well, I'm not really a fan of any rich people. Their profits are stolen and landlords are the biggest parasites. Also Cromwell was a prick. Thatcher sucked too. I just think the problems might me more inherent to rich people, capitalism, and the right wing, more so than all English people. And I'm always sceptical of nationalist movements. But yeah, it's complicated, so I don't fall on either side of the independence debate, I just hope that you're happy and whatever happens is good
I know that some of the pronunciation was wrong but there are lots of oddly pronounced names about the place and the analysis is more important than the pronunciation. Interesting stuff.

I've seen a few comments like this recently. I'd be interested to know why you think this? Are you implying that they're breaking rules or that the rules should be different? I would argue that this video is entirely true, quite neutral and purely informative, but I don't think there are currently any laws which suggest it needs to be Edit: I had forgotten about media blackout - if that's what you're referring to then yes I'd be interested to learn more about what the rules are and the rationale behind them. A quick search suggests that the blackout actually does include this type of content..
Well you could also just count every Vote and distribute the seats relativ to the percentage of votes... but that would be easy and actually representativ and thats obviously not the goal of the UK system.
SNP will not be going for Kirk-caw-day & Cow-den-bee-th (i spelled it out how you say it as apposed to spelling it correctly as you butchered it and it hurt my soul lol) as they have removed there Candidate there for Hate Speach.
It'll be tomorrow (Friday) mid-to-late morning. Depends on how quickly each constituency counts their votes but we'll have a general idea probably by about 9:00.
I don't get why all the non-Labour/Conservative parties didn't step away in Bojo's seat. Honestly, unseating Bojo would've been a great way to show the flaws of FPTP.
There are actually places in the country where voting actually matters??? Shut, The, Fridge! My vote's been irrelevant for as long as I've been eligible (20 years), but that's the way the two major parties like it, so that's what we're stuck with.
News is pro conservaties because gover ment some what controls media the gover ment in power but the herbal public had enough of conservaties 9 years is enough a lot of people are voting labour
Newcastle-Under-Lyme resident. Mums voted Labour (Hasn't voted for 36 years) Grandfather voted Labour Dad (core Tory voter) hasn't voted for ages, voted Tory today. (May I add he's extremely right-wing) Votes both cancelled and prevents a Tory majority in at least one household haha 30 votes isn't a lot, and consider the BXP are standing. I think they're likely to snatch it away from the Torys.
Guys, I'm not a statistician, but to the best of my knowledge, you're interpreting the poll results incorrectly. Let's take for example the results of YouGov's poll in Kensington: according to their poll, the conservative party's candidate is highly likely to get ~25%-50%, the Lib Dems candidate is highly likely to get ~17%-41% and the Labour candidate is highly likely to get ~15%-38%. The squarish part in the middle of each bar in the poll is the mean of this interval, so, the mean/average of e.g. the prediction that the Tory candidate would get ~25%-50% is 37.5%, but the poll doesn't predict that the Tory candidate would get 37.5%, it predicts that this candidate would get something between 25% and 50% - it can be 26%, can be 49%, anything in between these numbers.
@@THEMONKEYWITHNOSOUL I am not familiar with a Welsh independence movement. I stand to benefit from Scottish independence.
