That was a very good reminder of studio light setups. Clear, concise and efficient. I also learned that my light meter was able to calculate the ratio in stops between light sources, I'll read the manual next time!

Fantastic, thank you! Very simple to understand. It would be great to have a similar video with explanation about what power of lights make the best set up for this 3 light studio lighting.
@MarkWallaceVideos
@MarkWallaceVideos 11 дней назад
What do you mean? Are you asking for the aperture values? Or the actual type of lights (watt seconds) to use? Let me know and I’ll try to help out!
@fathampeak
@fathampeak 8 дней назад
@@MarkWallaceVideos Thanks! For us setting up studios, what Watt/ seconds power output would work well with which modifier. Which power of light would work well in a studio, or on location (e.g Godox Ad300 is battery powered and portable, Godox AD800 is suitable for studio only?).

@MarkWallaceVideos
@MarkWallaceVideos 10 дней назад
That's the plan. I've done a lot of live shows on creativeLive and a bunch here on RU-vid - but I'm working on a new live series. It just takes a lot of resources to make it happen. If we can keep building the channel it will be possible. :D

@markwallacevideos Dear Mr. Wallace, I am watching Lightmeter Videos from you and other Photographers for more than tens of years back in history. I started with a Sekonic L-308 about two years ago. Now I am using the Sekonic L-858D wich is an awesome Tool. Q1): with f 9,0 you still have a Flash Contribution of 100%, so no more Videolights are noticeable. Why are you increasing the Flashpower to f 11? I think you can stay at f 9? Q2): i’ve seen it in the video „how to use a light meter“ about two weeks ago and another video way back in history where you explain the delta EV Function. From my small opinion, it is not necessary to put the first measured value in Memory and fiddle around (put it into and clear). Refer to User Manual of Sekonic L-858D Page 125, english Version. Because when you make the first Measurement it will be set as a Standard Value after you hit the AVE/Delta EV Button as a basic.(without putting it into Memory) The next Measurement, push and hold the Measurement Button will show you of course the Delta EV and so the Flash Ratio. You have to enter more Values into Memory to make an AVE Calculation. The risk is, if you have accidentally more Values into Memory the Delta EV is calculated not from the standard Value but rather from the cal. Average Value. If you switch off the AVE/delta EV Button, the last Measurement will shown. Give it a try, less work for you. Greetings from Austria🇦🇹🇦🇹 Peter

Very good point about the memory button for Delta EV! I'm in the habit of teaching it this way because of some of the older meters that people are still using. But it's probably time to just go with the way it works with all the modern meters. It's so much easier that way. Very good suggestion, thank you!

What is the difference in Canon R5 of taking photos at Shutter Speeds macanical 200 sec and elec.1st-curtain 250sg. can you explain...thank you...
@MarkWallaceVideos
@MarkWallaceVideos 6 дней назад
This is a great topic for a future video! Bottom line - when using an electronic shutter (even elec 1st curtain) you lose bit depth. You'll have less dynamic range, and a smaller color space. However, you gain a shorter shutter lag, quieter shutter, and a faster sync speed. For me , the trade-off isn't worth using the electronic 1st curtain just to gain that tiny bit of sync speed.
