Remember growing up to Brooks and Dunn, Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Shania Twain, songs that literally burn a hole in your heart, in your mind. You'll find yourself in the middle of losing your conscious thought and the track will just roll into your head, like rolling thunder.
I grew up hearing all of them on the radio back then as well, our school bus drivers listened to FM country stations on our long bus rides. Thing is that I've always been a rock/metal guy primarily, and didn't appreciate country music as much back then...as a kid, anyway. Now as a grown man I absolutely love the country music from that era. It's SO much superior to what they call "country" today. Even considering that I wasn't really a country fan back then, I never forgot about songs like this. They've been imprinted in my head since then.
I grew up with them with a drunk father and a horrible life going on but yeah I still love country because I know I'm a real man and a real man never backs down from Garth Brooks done obviously Brooks Alan Jackson and I don't know who the rest you named but there was other couples that I know from like the 40s and 30s and 50s and 60s
Forrest Ihler why is it that almost all his songs are covers on here??? What’s goin on with that shit? It took me forever to find this and “the dance”, I’ve just been having to go with Live versions, which live is the best but sometimes you don’t wanna hear the crowd lol
When I was a really, really little kid, before I ever even knew what this song was about, I loved it. Every time there would be a thunderstorm, I would ask my dad to play it for me on his sound system (this was in the 90's - so like an 80's/90's style system), open all the windows and doors, so we could listen to it on the porch together with my mom and little brother. One of my favorite childhood memories. As an adult, the lyrics hit home in a way no other song can. The guitar and thunder still gives me chills to this day. This will always be one of my favorite songs.
Same here back when I was a kid and my parents where alive, standin outside on the porch on a rainy thunder stormy day back in the day with this song jamming out😢
I grew up with alcoholic parents, when they would argue my mom would shut all the lights off except for some that were dim. She would blast the CD's she had until she was sad enough to go to sleep, i guess. This song among a few others were some that stuck with me in my mind and that is what makes me remember these old songs. Itt was the late 90's so i know times were different then, but God this song takes me back... This was not meant to be a sad post but i just think about it literally every time i hear this song. and its never bad memories either.
@@kyle5046 Knowing what this songs about, you must've thought, "Deep in [your] heart, the thunder [may] roll. I'm glad for you, it never did and this song can still be an inspiration for you! It's a good 'un. Of course, this song doesn't have to be taken literally. It can be applied to any situation deemed to be emotionally volatile, so I'm confident that even if a tragedy--God forbid--did strike, you would've been able to disassociate yourself and still enjoy it!
Growing up in the North of Ireland at the hight of the troubles when the bombs and bullets were flying country music was not just my guilty pleasure but my escape. 🇺🇸✌️🇮🇪
You just hit me in the heart. American but old enough to recall Anne Murray calling for the children of Northern Ireland to be able to play in the streets without fear. She said "Ireland," but we knew what she was talking about. If you don't know it, look for Garth's "Ireland" song. It acknowledges his family history and I think it applies to both nations.
My parents use to play this on a surround sound system with the big ol' floor speakers. As a kid, hearing the intro would always scare the shit outta me. Now that I'm older, I've fell in love this song ♥️⛈️ Thank you for the original version!
Hard to find originals. I understand why he protects his work. Since he didn't write most of his work he only profits when he gets paid for his performances.
I like how there's a deep symbolic meaning of how The Thunder Rolls is a sign of impending danger and chaos, not just in nature, but in people in situations like this.
@@jodiehogan2241 The song is about domestic violence. The husband has been out drinking and with another woman. He comes back home to his wife. The husband tries to beat her when she rightfully is upset that he cheated If you watch the music video, it is more explainatory
Still listening to this song. As a little girl, my dad would play this song every time we went in the car wash. Weird memory but one I will never forget
I used to work summers as a fire lookout in Northeast California. The first time I ever heard this song, was from the top of that mountain, during a thunderstorm. (It's incredible the reception a cheap radio used to get on a mountain top) I'll never forget it
My pap did too, especially this song. We used to listen to it all the time when I'd ride in his truck when I was small. He died November 2020. Now all I think about when I hear this is him.
Does anyone remember the concert during his world tour in the early 90s when he would perform this song and it would rain in the arena? That was SO COOL! And he flew around the arena too! AND the stage would catch fire and he would just walk through it. Garth was such a rockstar.
This came out when I was a baby and according to my older sister, this is the only song that would put me to sleep. She must’ve played it over a thousand times. I’ve never gotten sick of it, even as an adult. Glorious video! Thanks for the upload! ⛈🎶
I remember driving my girlfriend as a teen in my pickup to get pizza and is was raining so hard.. it was 92 and we couldn't see a damn thing.. my ac didn't work so the windows kept fogging up! She was so scared, we never made it for pizza and this song came on the radio, she had anxiety attacks and wow garth calmed her..
Took my soulmate to go see Garth Brooksfor his 21st Birthday, in concert at the T-Mobile Arenas July 10th, 2021. Who shortly passed away the 17th. I asked him out of all the songs he performed which one his favorite and this was the song he choose. Song hits different ever since🙏🏼 bless you all
@@agar507 they banned the video because of the ending and that's also why most radio stations that play it won't play the full song. The part where she shoots him.
I remember being small and having my mom go to the city to shop My dad would put on his big speaker system and blast this. Now that im older i know why he did. Its beautiful. Rip Dad ❤️

On a windy stormy night in Texas on Christmas Eve with covid listening to the good stuff. I hope y'all all have a very merry Christmas ☃️🎄 glad I found this one, the other versions were getting on my nerves
My Uncle did a home renovation project for Garth (circa 2000's). This was in Claremore, Oklahoma, where Garth lives. Nice guy, not a pretentious asshole at all. I wished my uncle would have provided me with more details or? Yeah, I'd have been star struck. My Uncle is into the Rolling Stones... But anyway Garth was and is "Country Cool"........
I have seen Garth 8 times now 4 the concert he gave me a towel after using it I vacuumed sealed it never washed never will Don't get weird out but I told my family when it's my time I want the song THE RIVER that song saved my life
I played this song a little bit on a trip with my grandparents. We were in our camper in a RV park in a small town in texas, and a thunderstorm blew in at 4:00 am our original time zone. And the thunderstorm woke us up. And so we had a long day.

My dad just passed away in March he really love that song and I do too. Keith Mayfield .my dad 68 when he passed he was up in Grand Island in a rest home he died. He died on a Wednesday I went to see why Monday
Would u believe ..that the video of this song and the song itself held the attention of high school class full inner city black children in Philadelphia (Simon Gratz) everybody’s eyes and ears ,especially mine was glued to the new television they installed over the summer …the first country song that I believed touched all our hearts …has been my favorite ever since …
Omg! The 2nd REAL Garth Brooks song on RU-vid I've heard today!! He or RU-vid must not know it's up or we wouldn't be listening to it. Rodeo is my favorite but I cannot find a REAL version anywhere! The other real song I found was the live version of Friends in Low Places.
This is Garth singing Rodeo ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DFT6Gkx7Cn4.html and here is Friends In Low Places ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-p0_der_5hRM.html
You've got to fucking kidding me that you think that idiot cover, who has hijacked many of his songs, is better than Garth Brooks! Dude, there is only one Garth.
@@sparkplugdoug4489 The dude that has hijacked many of his songs is the idiot. IDK why he is still on here with copyright infrigment. Well you both are if I read you post right & you think the cover is better than Garth. IDK maybe i didn't read it right, the "not some not as good as cover" is confusing & maybe that is not what you were saying. If not I apologize.
@@kathys_damngoodsong umm, you need to go back to school and relearn reading comprehension. I have read his comment like 10 times and it clearly says the cover is stupid and is saying this is the original and not the cover. Smfh. How stupid do you look getting on here and calling someone an idiot because he shares the same opinions as you? Lmao 🤣
When I was a kid, my mom used to have an audio cassette tape of Garth Brooks and I always liked her to play this song in the car when we would go places. Then one day it got ruined when she accidentally spilled soda on it and I couldn't listen to it anymore. This was before RU-vid and I didn't even really know the singer's name at the time so it was a long time before I heard it again. As an adult I realize the song is about a man cheating on his wife (or girlfriend?) but as a kid I thought it was just about the actual storm 😂
As we all know Garth wrote this about himself and what he did to Sandi. Surprised she didn’t make the 3 verse reality. Would have done country music a huge favor
WOW! Everybody i have ever talked with about garth brooks would look at me like i was putting my phone into a microwave whenever i would tell them almost all of his songs on youtube are really just covers. They would argue with me and tell me im nuts. But then id have them listen to the LOW notes, and then, suddenly, my ears were the stuff of legends. Lol
Thank you once again for your love towards my music 🎶 Do you mind if we talk somewhere private so I can officially add you to my group? I'm not on here much
Hello sweetheart ...Thanks for being a great fan,and also thanks for your likes and comments under my fan page,i have being monitoring your page, and i can see you're a true fan, may God continue to bless you all amen...
Grew up on old country, and still love listening to this song on my system. Running 4 DC level 6 15s on 2 salt 12s. So many people have no idea about these country bass lines 😄
