This documentary shows you what it is like to fly the Tiger Moth, one of the oldest bi-planes in use today. Extensive in-cockpit footage and interviews with experienced flyers including Bill Ison, the iconic CFI of the Cambridge Flying Group, are used to put you in the pilot's seat of this classic plane. Many aspects of flight including take-offs, landings and aerobatics are covered in this film.

Thanks Michael for the memories and the refesher course. Bill Ison taught me to fly in CFG’s 2 Tiger Moths in 1976 - a fantastic experience that you’ve just brought alive again. Your video captures the essence and pure joy of flying this wonderful aircraft.

Thanks Colin, Bill Ison was our CFI until about 12 years ago, sadly he passed away but we try to maintain his high standards in the Group till today. Best wishes mike derrett mderrett@mikederrett.com

Thank you Michael, I enjoyed this documentary very much. I recently purchased a Tiger Moth (DE-253) but it is not quite ready for flight. Your video is inspiring and I look forward to the day. Cheers

In i975, myself and my brother paid to go for a flight in one of these from an airport in Idaho. The flight went very smoothly as I recall. For a long time, I confused this plane with a Curtis Jenny. But just the other day, I found my souvenir ticket which proves it was a Tiger Moth we went up in. But is there much difference between the two?

Yes quite a bit of difference although both are WW1 technology, Tiger is younger though with a 1931 design, Jenny was i think WW1

@@michaelderrett5096 Yes, now that I was able to compare the two and buy an old model kit of a Curtis Jenny, I see that the Jenny looks somewhat flimsier with those U shaped support bars under each bottom wing.

I owned and operated a Tiger Moth for some 4 years.I had learnt to fly a tailwheel aircraft in an Auster J5..A very good tailwheel trainer. The DH82A was surly an aircraft in the air, with a great WW2 reperation. The Tiger Moth has no brakes and a rear tail skid. Some have been modified to have wheels suitable for brakes. The DH82A has off course a great reputation as a WW2 trainer. All in all the Tiger Moth is a stick and rudder aircraft designed for grass airfields ie., WW2.The Tiger has ailerons on the bottom wings and all in all a pretty stable stick and rudder aircraft. WW2 pilots in the UK learnt to fly in them. The Dh82 is a very effficient aircraft.and spins well. If your tiger is fitted with no lockable slats as if you spin it , it will spin flat. Not a good idea. The Tiger Moth is a stick and rudder flying aircraft and you need to fly it all the way off the ground and in the air and landing. So,me models had slats on the top wing. (not a good idea). The Tiger Moth likes to spin, and it spins very well.Make sure the slots are locked for spinning. The Tiger Moth likes spinning out of steep turns so be very careful. The DH82A is an aircraft that WILL BITE YOU and BIGHT YOU HARD> Make sure you dont stall it in a steep turn with the turn un-balanced.It will get you quick.
