I think tracing is fine, IF 1. You don't post it 2. You do original stuff as well (as in, not all your art is traced) Like... A few days ago, I was watching an art video. The artist did a sketch, that I thought was really good, but they didn't like So I took a screenshot of it, and traced and coloured it myself HOWEVER, I am not going to post that anywhere. That piece is going to live in my Ibis gallery, until I inevitably delete it It was a "just for fun" thing. My only intention when tracing it, was to see how it could look, if it was finished Also, I do use references, Everytime I draw, but I don't trace
@@RubenDuenas1 you dont need perms on every single thing youd trace though, since itd be impossible because most if not all things arent original and have been inspired/altered from things that have also been inspired/altered way back from the originals
@@a_idiot_bun so what you're saying is, nothing is original therefore it is okay to trace? Because if that IS what you're saying I don't think I need to explain how that is simply....silly? Legit, you're making the same argument as pink cat. Iykyk
@@RubenDuenas1why are you misinterpreting what they are saying on purpose? They couldn’t make their point any more clear and they have given valid points as to why tracing isn’t necessarily a bad thing in certain circumstances ie. practicing your own art privately with no intentions of posting it. There is no need to create unnecessary drama.
An easy way to tell if something is traced is if most of the lines matches the original drawing. When referencing, it's basically impossible for an artist to copy every line. Another sign is when there is an error in the original drawing and the person who used the drawing as a "reference" has that same error. There is no reason for that person to make the same error unless they are just tracing the art without thinking about it.
I hate what social media has turned into because of tiktok like features. Whenever I draw I feel like I HAVE to post it, because I do want people tonsee my art.. but it's exhausting.
I like the character you use! Though I would move the eyes to the left to look at the viewer so it doesn’t look like they’re looking at the void of life
my art style is extremely similar to my friends- because she’s the one who taught me how to draw - but people often think i’m a downgraded version of her and i’m trying to copy, so then we have to explain everything. 😭
Thank you so much for showing how to properly reference someone’s artstyle! I don’t mind if someone traces my work but I do mind if they trace and claim that traced work as their own. Tracing CAN help you learn (it helped me develop my own style) but it’s not a proper technique for actually making your own work. And I ADORE your artstyle, it’s so cute!!!
This is a great video, but I recently needed to figure out how to replicate a friends style because we're working on an animated series together I wanna add that if someone wants to be a professional animator they do actually need to know how to replicate artstyles
I'm going into animation as a career as well! Luckily enough replicating styles is how I've taught myself to draw! It's a combination of everything I've learned!
The only times i can remember tracing was tracing over a dtiys and using what i had drawn as the sketch layer. Literally the only part was the vague outline of the pose.
It is okay to trace, it's a good way to learn from your fav artists or proportions from refs if you break it down and try to figure out connections. But the issue is, if you plan on sharing it publicly then you should 1) ask for permission to the artist and if they accept, then 2) not claim it as yours and 3) credit the artist. Even using traced art as a base is not okay without permission of the artist and properly crediting them! (I am saying this in a light-hearted way btw, i hope my message didn't sound mean..) have a good day!
@@lupine9514 something like this happened to me, except they weren’t using it as a based it was straight up tracing (I mean they even copied the titles I’d put) I wasn’t even credited until one day which upsets me still rn :’) even though sometimes tracing is for figuring out a style sometimes it’s straight up copying
So what im getting from all this is that they also claim that mr worldwide steals other artists works ?? Thats some heavvy ass wild accusation, having a ghost writer is not stealing its their entire job they get paid for it. She cant just drag his image down with them, tracers are the worst people along side gacha ppl since the "edit" they do or "animation" is just tracing over the apps assets or drawing over it like some pre teen that adds mustaches and glasses on a persons image on a magazine
