The way his meeting of her as a child and the realization of who she is in his future is beautifully explained. There is no 'grooming, predatory bent' to this movie or book. Sometimes I feel that we are so used to the ugly in some people that we no longer have the ability or inclination to recognize the good.

I like the way Steven speaks about the grooming controversy. I think that’s what some critics are failing to understand likely having not read the book.

It’s very obvious, especially to anyone who has read the book, that Henry is an imaginary friend to young Claire. That was made really clear in this adaptation, even in the first episode when 38-year-old Henry interacts with 20-year-old Claire. The concern is valid when approached with a synopsis of the concept, but it’s executed with a lot of caution and respect.
