Having been discovered by Johnny Carson at a very early age. He quickly became a favorite of Johnny’s and made a total of 7 appearances on the “Tonight Show”.
Johnny Carson, kingpin of American late-night television, introduced Joseph Gabriel, and what transpired on the “Tonight Show” stage for the next several minutes was sufficient to amaze millions of viewers and leave Carson himself visibly and vocally enthused.

Great act! I miss Johnny.. he was such a great ambassador for magic. I know it’s cliche to pine for the “good old days”, but the world was full of so much more wonder and mystery back then, before secrets were only a google search away. Back then all you had were fellow magicians and 793.8 at your local library. 🙂

This is one of two of my favorite clips of Joseph's act. This performance was just spot on, and so inspiring to a fledgling dove worker. For instance, notice how, after the cockatoo production, he's almost ready to take the bow, but realizes he's about 4 beats ahead of the music (undoubtedly, my guess is due to the volume of the applause, he couldn't hear the music), then immediately got back on time with the music, bowing at the perfect beat. That shows his experience and professionalism. His personality certainly drives the magic in this performance. The opening sequence (to Herb Alpert's "Behind The Rain") is just very powerful, both magically and musically. The second segment (to "Coco Loco") allows him to showcase his playful side, with a little twinkle in his eye. Lucy was also amazing. I called her a "walking table" once in an interview I did with Joseph, and he laughed and agreed. By that, I meant, she didn't take away the focus from him, but was there when he needed her. Most first-time viewers never remember that he had a partner/assistant onstage. That is brilliant teamwork and perfection in choreography. The act built, from start to finish. Most other bird acts, were all doves (mine, included). Joseph's bird act builds to a crescendo, beginning with doves and budgies to a cockatoo and ending with "Shadow" and "Bandit," his gorgeous macaws. It was/is spectacular to watch in person. From a stage crew perspective, this was the perfect magic act to work with; no tables, no props, nothing to set on stage, and nothing to strike when he was done. Johnny Carson was correct, and graciously positive with his assessment after the act, when he said, "this is about as classy a magic act as you're going to see in a long time!" Probably the best compliment, ever. Simply, the best.
