Adding the THPS1 soundtrack by burning it into the XBOX was a big brain move. If only the Nintendo Switch had such feature, because that's where I play THPS1+2. It'll be a while until I get myself a Portable Gaming PC and add the music to the game's files to experience such thing. Well, at least the songs that couldn't make it. Man, it sucks that they didn't make it into The THPS Trilogy instead. I could had been perfectly fine with leaving THPS4 out. I think that's what they would have done if Activision told Vicarious Visions beforehand this would be their last dance. They really did Tony Hawk dirty with that one. The original deal was releasing the 4 THPS games in sets of 2. We were eventually getting THPS3+4, until out of nowhere Activision closed Vicarious Visions and spread it's employees across different projects. Thus, putting it 6 feet under.

I wasn't aware of this game until I saw it in a Gamestop for $5 back in 2010. I hadn't played THPS2 on the PS1 since 2003 or 2004 as I had invested all of my energy into my Xbox by then. The first time I played the New York level was the first time I had ever properly experienced the feeling of nostalgia, and I hold this game near to my heart as a result. I don't play 2x too often as I'm someone who prefers the original versions of games, but it's an excellent remake that's worth playing for any Tony Hawk fan.

Vigilante 8 ps1 you could pop a music cd in and listen to it once the level loaded. You could on a few other games as well

I’ve been playing the THPS 1 & 2 Remake today on the Switch, and I had zero idea that this game existed, and that was only because after #5 from what I was hearing about it, it made me lose a lot of hope in this franchise. Suddenly the Winter Sale on the Eshop comes along, and I noticed it was on there on sale for a decent price that I could afford, and I read the reviews and people were giving 7, 8 or 9 out of 10, and I thought “There is absolutely NO WAY it is that good!” So, I got it and took their word, and when I tell you this game made a grown 29 Year Old man cry happy tears from the overwhelming nostalgia I felt playing it, I absolutely mean it. What an incredible and unexpected turnaround and comeback! Best remake I’ve seen in a long time! I absolutely love it! The Deluxe version has some pretty nice bonuses, too! Love the Create A Skater feature, too! Love how it encourages the player to play every single mode to be able to collect more of the game’s currency to unlock more of the apparel from CAS, and gives you challenges to unlock special items! This is exactly what I wanted from a remake of this! Little disappointed the skater creator wasn’t a bit more fleshed out and in depth, but at this point, considering how entertained I have been by this game today, I honestly don’t care that much, because it’s just a happy throwback to my childhood. ❤️ Solid 8.5/10 for me. I really want to give it a 9, though. (Secretly.)

I played Pro Skater on the N64. I remember one night me and my dad were playing it when my mom came home from work came upstairs and she surprised me with a memory card. I think I'm going to have to buy 1 and 2 remake to get some of that good ol nostalgia.

The XBox controller ports are just USB 1.1. Theoretically you could build an adapter and plug in any old USB keyboard. The retail dashboard probably wouldn't respond to it, though.

I picked up a copy of 2x right around when the 360 first launched. It was a really solid game! I honestly forgot about the THPS1 soundtrack being absent. Also, the game includes a few extra levels. They’re mostly filler but are still bonus levels.

Thps2x is the equivalent to a hd remaster back in the day

they did com out with a "sharkboard" keyboard that attached to the controller memory card slot .. but if you cut a breakaway cable and solder the 4 wires to a usb hub and then plug in a keyboard it will work

I found out about this game from Rad Rat when I was younger. What a throwback! I've never played it cause I don't have an Xbox but I grew up loving Tony hawk games on n64, ps1 and ps2. I still play Underground 1 and Pro Skater 2/3/4 a lot. I gave you a sub for the nostalgic content.

When this dropped I was blown away cuz I had the ps1 version and the n64 version my cousin got an Xbox on launch day an the store had a deal where you could pick 2 games as well for a lil more an my cousin got this one for me an I’ll never forget that was my first time graphics truly blew my mind. I went home turned on my 64 an was like yeaaaaaa lmao I need an Xbox never got one tho I have never owned a original Xbox.

The XBox controller ports and memory card ports are simply USB with different connectors. You can absolutely get a USB adapter and use a keyboard with a lot of software.

The name thing with the songs was probably because you did it on the XBox rather than doing it on a PC where you can set the ID3 information for the song. ID3 is an information format that software uses to identify a song, not the the file name.

TH:PS2 was my first one; owned it for the PS1. Played Pro Skater afterwards and definitely enjoyed its successor more.

I owned this, but I always preferred THPS1 and THPS2 on Dreamcast, even if they weren't all together on the same disc.

The first time custom soundtrack isn't entirely true. I know in ridge racer on PS1 you can swap the disc once it's loaded for a regular CD and you can listen to a custom soundtrack. I think there might've been a couple other games with this feature too

Pretty sure on Ridge Racer Type 4 you could whip the disc out and replace it with a music cd and the game would play the music off the cd.

Also if you mod your Xbox you can send songs to it that way hahaha it's not seamless but I've done it because the lack of cdr

As a major fan of the first two games, there are major collision detection and clipping issues in this game that break killer combo lines from the originals. I want to like this repackaged version but it fails in many ways to live up to the standards of those games.

I remember seeing this game in stores when it was new. It was made to be a holdover until THPS 3 was ready for the Xbox, so Microsoft had a Tony Hawk game at launch to not lose ground to Sony if I remember correctly . I already had 1/2 for the playstation so i never bothered with it.

While this game is really cool, I don't think it's the ideal way to play 1 or 2. It was more of a treat for the newer console generation, a cleaned up old game. The title of the game sums up what it really is, it's THPS 2 (plus more), not really THPS 1 and 2. Idealy you'd play 1 before playing 2, but the THPS 1 single plalyer isn't available right away and is only unlocked when beating 2, which shows it's just a bonus really. Plus the soundtrack like you mentioned. This is really just THPS2 but with THPS1 levels added in (which the PC vesrion of 2 already did). I think 1 and 2 on dreamcast as separate games are the best way to play them. So you get the original games in their entirety and their own unique identity and atmosphere (2x doesn't even have the same menus as 2 so it feels different). So 2x is really cool, nothing bad about it, but to me it feels more like a cool refresh of games people likely already played on the previous gen consoles, but not the ideal way to play the games for the first time.

I wish you had gone more in depth with the game itself, THPS1 goals with manuals are beyond broken, the bonus levels are fine at best, but still this is the best way to play both games to this day in my opinion. I don't want modern physics on these games, I want them to feel like they always did and THPS1+2 didn't deliver that.

I remember having a Demo of this on the Dreamcast. When you performed combo tricks it would say I.e (kick flip to 50/50 to heel flip) then when it was released it was reverted to (kick flip + 50/50 + heel flip) sort of annoyed me 😂
