This video has really blown up for some reason. Thank you to all that are viewing it, commenting and leaving a thumbs up. Please keep in mind this was the first video I did for my channel, when I was new to video editing and when I had a horrible microphone. You'll find my newer videos are better quality :)
I'd like to add the DK coin (and also "N" letter) in *Chain Link Chamber* for DKC2, which requires you to jump into an invisible gap in the wall that has barely any indication, all whilst trying to climb up two ropes and SIMULTANEOUSLY avoid two Kannons firing down upon you, which itself houses another secret.
Although it's not a secret room, the two blue balloons at the end of Jungle Hinjinx in DCK 1 is probably worth mentioning. Most websites and even the original players guide didn't mention this.
So, funny enough, I actually did find #1 on my own. It bothered me that on the right hand side of the room is a wall with an arrow sign above it. But usually in this level the arrow is above a door to exit. But there was no exit. I tried to bring DK barrels into the first bonus room and it failed. Eventually after multiple tries I got the barrel - but as the video said, the bonus room ended after I threw it. It took FOREVER to figure out I had to jump into the wall with the barrel instead. I blame Kirby's Adventure for my obsessiveness to find hidden doors. So many of them in the NES game were just RANDOMLY in the sky somewhere.
The last bonus I needed to 102% DKC2 was the Rambi charge secret at the end of the big bee chase. I didn't have a problem with any other of the DKC2 secrets, but DKC1 has some absurd ones. Especially because DKC1 doesn't make it obvious how important the secrets are for completion.
5:20 Finally someone who shows Diddy's boom box dance; most people seem to insist on showing Dixie's guitar solo instead, but I found Diddy's dance much funnier.
I actually found number 5 (both of the bonus's) on my first playthrough. i was like im gonna just goof around and ride on top of the roof of the bonus stage and when i saw the screen go black i was like "Really rare?, You just put another bonus on top of a bonus?!"
Hey there, thanks for the comment! This was the first video I did for my channel, where I had a poor microphone and was new to video editing. You'll find my more recent videos are much better :)
Hey there, thanks for the comment. This was actually the very first video I did for my channel, where I had a pretty horrible microphone and I was new to video editing. If you check out my newer videos, you'll find my microphone is much better and my video editing skills are improved :)
I really doubt ANYONE ever found the #1 legit. I don't remember how I did 101% back in the day but I'm pretty sure I had to look for that one in a guide of some sort. You can have a bad jump and get a banana by mistake, but not THREE bananas. You have to be specifically aiming for 3 bananas and why the hell would anyone want the worst prize?
do you know that if you just suck at tanked up trouble and miss the first tank boost that your platform bottoms out and drops you into the bonus? most difficult find for skill players but easiest for newbies
I mean, the fuel barrel is right in your path, you actually need to consciously jump over it to miss it. Even if you just stand there and do nothing, you'll collect it.
you're not supposed to just jump off the moving platform in tanked up trouble to get to the bonus. It's not there randomly, if you dodge the fuel barrel the platform will stop and fall just above the bonus, so its a clever bonus rewarded if you're curious enough to skip the gimmick. I found it on my first playthrough accidentally because I wanted to try that
Thing is though that you're still essentially just dropping off the track at a random point. Why jump over that particular fuel barrel and not any of the others? Why can't you use that trick to find another bonus later in the level? There's no reason for it, there's no clue pointing towards it, there's no established pattern. It's still at the end of the day just a random placement for a bonus. There is a theory that the game was initially designed for a slightly larger vertical resolution (Rare are a British developer that would have been using PAL) which would have meant that you could actually see the top of that barrel. But when the game was converted to NTSC it lost those extra lines so the barrel became invisible.
@@WhitePointerGaming because that's the very first fuel barrel. If you're playing the level for the first time and is clueless that you're supposed to get those fuel barrels, you'll fall into the bonus launcher.
“You’re not supposed to” is not an excuse for the badly placed bonus. Plus, you’re forgetting there are bananas around the fuel barrel, so of course people are going to collect the barrel and miss the bonus.
Tanked up Trouble is by far one of the top 5 worst levels of DKC: Snow Barrel Blast, Blackout Basement, Slipslide Ride, and Trick Track Trek being the other bad levels.
I think Snow Barrel Blast, Blackout Basement and Slipslide Ride are all fine levels and pretty fun once you are used to them, though I admit SBB is a pretty big skill check for new players. I think Winky's Walkway is a really bad stage though, imo that's probably the worst stage in game after the slow auto scrollers you mentioned. It's really short, not very challenging and without any real variety - it's really a nothing stage. It's your first introduction to Winky but it's not a good stage regardless.
@@WhitePointerGaming true about Winky's Walkway. I will say tho that I have sensitive eyes so Blackout Basement is terrible in my opinion. Snow Barrel Blast I eventually got the hang of, then I found the shortcut lol after becoming a pro. Slipslide Ride sucks because there are Zingers at the ends of each rope, so the game purposely hurts you and causes you to have only one Kong when you die (depending on which it is will determine whether or not you get an advantage or not). There are some levels I will also admit I was overcomplicating like Oil Drum Alley, Elevator Antics, both the Minecart Levels, Platform Perils, and Poison Pond.
I did manage to find all DK coins and bonus rooms in DKC2 on my own...well, with Cranky’s help. (I found the second bonus room in Haunted Hall based on his “Where there is one, there may be two”, so I decided to hop above the first bonus room.) I noticed that overthinking what Cranky said was very useful. The hardest secret was the DK coin in Kannon’s Klaim: I found it by overthinking Cranky’s “Right is right, right at the start”. I knew that led to a bonus room, but I decided to try it in the bonus room. I do admit, when I replayed the game as a 30-something, I did have to look up a DK coin in K Rool’s Keep. But, on my first run as a preteen in the 90’s, I found everything without Nintendo Power or the Internet. (If I ever do a play through, I will recommend overthinking Cranky Kong.)
Are you referring to the DK coin in Chain Link Chamber where you have to jump into an invisible gap in the wall whilst trying to climb up two ropes and SIMULTANEOUSLY avoid two cannons being fired down upon you?
Maybe its just me, but most of the secrets in the Game Boy game, Donkey Kong Land 2 are really well hidden and hard to find. More so than in any other game in the DKC or DKL games.
You forgot to mention one particular hidden bonus. The 1st bonus in Mine Cart Madness has a hidden off-screen bonus barrel just after the rope. When jumping from the rope to the mine cart, there are bananas lined up on the track, but notice there's a gap of bananas missing. That's where the unseen bonus barrel is hiding. Just simply jump there. Such a dirty secret to hide the bonus there.
I'd argue that one isn't difficult to find, because there's an obvious gap in the bananas, indicating that something is there. I personally don't think that one is on the level of the others listed in the video.
I don't remember having any problem finding all the secrets except #1. I never found it as a child. Only a few years later I started the game from the beginning knowing I couldn't find all the secrets in this level and probably because I was bored as hell knowing I have tried everything I went for the one banana and bang. I was hitting my head with the controller thinking of all the time spent randomly jumping to nowhere trying to find the secret and never going through a bonus level I already discovered
Yeah, this was the very first video I did for my channel when I was new to video editing and had a crappy webcam microphone. My newer videos are much better.
