Rachel, I wish I was as cool as you and could find as well as read as many books as you. You always find a million more books than I even KNOW about. You are the best. Thank you! I always look forward to your videos.... with my notebook.
Good mixture of stuff on that list., Generation Ship sounds like my cup of tea. I finally got around to reading the first of the Al Clark series of books last year, that was probably my favourite read of the year.
My love affair with books and literature began in the 5th grade 50 years ago. Your reviews are helpful and engaging to watch. The older I become the more difficult it is to find well written books. I am looking forward to reading a few of your recommendations.Keep up the great work, and happy reading.
Of books published this year, Adrian Tchaikovsky's Children of Memory takes it for me, but in fairness I've only read like 4-5 books that were published this year. Pushing it back a little bit, The Mountain in the Sea by Ray Nayler was published at the end of last year and is probably really close, if not my favorite read of the year (there are a few other contenders but they're somewhat older)
i'm always so hyped for your end-of-the-year content!! 🚀🛸🌠 i read scourge between stars earlier this year per your recommendation & i liked it! super interested in the archive undying as well. i think my favorite SF book i read this year was the mountain in the sea by ray nayler, though that one came out last year.
AI gods. Best thing I’ve heard all year. The Archive Undying was immediately placed on a gift list. Generational Ship was already on it. Happy Holidays.
I'm getting back into reading and always looking for good sci fi recommendations! there were a few on this list i'm definitely going to check out. i look forward to your fantasy list!!
Ok you got me ! Sci-fi wise I put Generation Ship, Archive Undying and Saint Elspeth on hold ! Went with 2 of your Trilogies The Infinite & Ethera Grave so being reading all 6 ! Thanks for your love of Sci-fi ! My library is extensive ! ( Fantasy , Sci fi , Assassins as GoodGuys ,) Just Read a Book expands one’s imagination and I hope expands one’s outlook on life ). 🎉 Love is written on the pages so let it transcend you into a greater being ). Every moment reading or living life will teach you something !
Totally agree you on Jinn-Bot. Easily one of my best books of the year. I've been following Basu for a while and this is my favorite of his so far. I was more lukewarm on Archive Undying. I appreciate what the author was doing, but something just didn't click for me. I saw a review that described it as messy and I kinda agree with that. Sometimes that works for me, sometimes it doesn't.
excellent. these are all right up my alley. just finished 'Surface Detail' by Banks in a binge. looking for the next Southern Reach segment to be released. the Hoffman series looks great. thanks!
I enjoy your channel quite a bit, Rachel. I have a question: How many books per month do you read and what would be your rough estimate (or exact number, if available) of how many books you have read in your life?
Great video Rachel. Whitney put Generation Ship on my Radar and it will definitely be one I read in the future. Thanks so much for the great sci-fi content.
This is the third or fourth best SF of the year list I've seen and I'm beginning to think I was reading in some kind of an alternate universe this year, hardly any of my favorite books are showing up on other people's lists. I did like Generation Ship, I've read the first books in the Essa Hansen and Ada Hoffman series and will be finishing those. And I think you've convinced me to check out Saint Elspeth. Thanks for all the good videos this year, and keep on reading.
AI gods. Best thing I’ve heard all year. The Archive Undying was immediately placed on a gift list. Generational Ship was already on it. Happy Holidays. 🤖
The Archive Undying is on my TBR from I think sommer 2023 because I love books with AIs so much. The Generation Ship is also to be read. But I am now reading The Machine.
Generation Ship has been on my list since the last time you mentioned it. I’m going to go back and re-read the Outside and finish out the series. I didn’t care for it at first but I cannot stop thinking about it.
Great list!!👍👍👍 Several of these are already on my tbr📚, others are going on it!! Rachel, did you see that james sa corey is putting out a new book series next year? 🤖🤖🚀
[space emoji]. Because I couldn’t be bothered to use an actual emoji. I’m an old fossil I guess. But I do enjoy your taste in books, I’ve been adding to my TBR, thanks for that! Keep these vids coming !
Seems like most of these have that " fresh" quality like " Ymir" which I greatly enjoyed JB Shantiport, Empyrean & The Archive Undying caught my attention the most . ( Rubicon , Generation Ship, Outside ( first by Hoffman ) already on TBR ) Thanks again , Rachel
Ok, I’ve declared that I hate sci-horror BECAUSE of the exact things you are saying but I’ve seen soooo many people loving The Scourge Between Stars I’m wanting to give this a shot actually
Looking through my 2023 reads, the only thing that was published in 2023 was “Leviathan Falls” (in paperback). Two much older favourites that I read this year were “Fluency” (Jennifer Foehner Wells) and “Slow Bullets” (Alastair Reynolds), and a somewhat more recent one was “The Luminous Dead” (Caitlin Starling). I am so disappointed at my 2023 new release SciFi reading now you make me aware of it 🫤
Added quite a few to my list from this one. You should check out The Ferryman by Justin Cronin. It might be similar-ish to one you mentioned on this list
Rachel-Iwas born in 1949 and have been a dvience fiction fan dince about 1957...not a big fan of space opera or military fiction...most enjoyable series of the 21st C- Allen Steele's Coyote books...You could sit next to me and I'd listen to you all day and night...
Generation Ship was quite good...sorry about all my typeing errors...back in the 50's the back of books would say, the science of today is the science fact of tomorrow...It should be updated to, the science fiction of today is the seties of tomorrow-too many books that don't add a ehole lot to what's already been done...You are soooooo good looking...
I'm late to the party, and want to buy and read The Jinn-bot of Shantiport to get me out of my reading slump. Anyone know why it's showing on pre-order for Dec 10th of *2024* on Amazon? 🤔
The Deluge is THE book to read this coming year if you care about the Environment Crisis. This book is showing the future of our world. Dark and unlikeable characters and definitely not the most uplifting story.
My earlier video I did last year is basically that... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-p0FjoEW2flE.html Your commenting is surprising because my channel is frequently criticized for reading too many men. It's funny how everyone has a different opinion how many women is "a lot"
