@@MoviesNeverSayDie But I’m not a fan of The Goonies, however😂 I know I’m the odd one out, but somehow didn’t watch it as a kid, so I don’t have the nostalgia factor. Viewing it now, it lacks some of the essentials of 80s popcorn cinema - mainly pacing. The movie is bordering on hyper-active, never taking time to build proper suspense, and with the characters yelling non stop. It feels more like what’s pushed on kids nowadays in that regard. Also, I’m not from the generation so easily offended, yet I do find it slightly offensive or mean spirited in places. Anyway, that’s my little soap boxy thing. I understand why people love it, but viewing it as an adult, it doesn’t hold a candle to likes of BTTF😉
@MoviesNeverSayDie
@MoviesNeverSayDie Год назад
@@lthammox I can certainly understand that perspective. Nostalgia and growing up with the Goonies is a bonus for the films appeal. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest where this was filmed so it was easy for us to go out in the same settings and have our own adventures as kids. Many aspects of it wouldn't work in todays cinema making it a product of its time. It would be hard to remake this film today with Sloth's character and some of the humor.

I thank God every day that I'm a Gen X that grew up in the 80s (and I don't even believe in God). It was a decade or so of an absolute explosion of creativity. Music had so many genres, Rock, Pop Rock, Hard Rock, Synthwave, Punk, New Romantics, Ballads, Blues, Dance, you name it. Almost every movie that came out was gold, and there were a lot of them. You'd go to the movies without even checking what was on, you knew there'd be something worth watching. TV wasn't that great tbh, endless reruns of the Brady Bunch and Gilligan's Island etc. The 90s/2000s were the golden age of tv for me.

The 80's was great for commercial cinema, there's never been another decade like it for original high-concept, mainstream fun and cheese. It was also a great decade for dramatic cinema though.....The Killing Fields, The Year of Living Dangerously, Gandhi, The Mission, Mississippi Burning, Das Boot, Come and See, Hope and Glory, Empire of the Sun, The Elephant Man, Salvador, Missing, Paris, Texas, Reds.....it would be impossible to pick a top 100.
