Your videos were very helpful with making my partial! Also, I get upholstery foam from Joann Fabrics. They have sales on it rather often. Just in case that helps any of your other USA watchers
I love your videos so much! They're so in depth and comprehensive! I'm curious if you've ever tried a 3d printed head. Aren't they more breathable? Do they fur well, or do you need to use EVA foam to pad the base? And does it need a sort of mesh base over the holes to avoid pits in the fir? 😅 Thank you so much,! You're such a treasure to the furry community. 🥰
It’s not my preference personally, 3D prints aren’t as porous unless there’s holes, I find them a bit tricky when it comes to heat and warping, I’ve not really used them myself but I’ve had to fix them before. I’m a bit old fashioned I suppose and love my foam bases xD
I don’t really have personal experience on that front, but generally I’d assume it’d be harder to work with than a foam base since you can’t adjust it as easily- but that would confirm a parallel head I suppose. I’m not sure how well it furs, but if you’re worried about that you could probably add some thinner layers of foam over the base.
Skye I love your channel so much, youve given me so much more confidence to start my fursuit. I think you’d make a wonderful teacher even outside of firsuiting if you ever wanted to get into something like that
*procrastinates on chem homework by watching this* *skye pulls up the chemical structures* *involuntarily starts naming the function groups on the structures* Great video! Planning on using EVA foam for my first headbase because it's lightweight and can be cut out in patterns and glued to itself to make forms, but not rigid like resin or 3D printed heads. It's a spideer (spider/deer hybrid) with a bunch of big extra eyes all over so I'm not sure how sturdy upholstery foam will be with that many eyeholes. Especially in the muzzle which has numerous eyeholes to maximize ventilation.
Hello, I am a new fursuit maker and I was wondering if you could make a tutorial (or a tips and tricks video) on how to carve foam with *scissors only*? I have seen some fursuit makers do it yet they still have impossibly smooth foam. I can’t use an electric cutter or anything expensive except fabric scissors. So I think it would be e really helpful for me if you could make a video on this, thanks! If you find me commenting this everywhere, it’s because there’s literally no videos I can find.
Thanks for the great info I have a question on motivation, how do you get it? I bought materials to start my first partial fursuit in July and still haven’t started anything. I want to start the tail but don’t have the motivation, is there any advice on how to begin other than just start/just do it?
Heyy!I have a question:is upholstery foam safe to use?I have used it for my project but some people told me it was toxic and can lead to respiratory problems
yes it can be toxic if you wear it for WAYYYYYYYYYYYY too long, it can create mold and you could get a heat stroke and could be life threatening. im not saying like you cant wear your fursuit for more than 5 minutes only i usually am not a fursuiter but i am a furry but ive learned that you may have a break every 30 minutes, sit down, take a drink of water and relax for probably 5 mins.
@@kpowell5811you can’t just get a free one. You have to pay her for her work and labor. That’s how a business works. Begging won’t get you anything. It’s just disrespectful and will probably annoy her
You gotta pay a lot of money and make a duct tape dummy and have a 3 different pose reference sheet and a bucket head and lastly make sure she wants a commission:3
so fucking delighted that theres finally something that Only Australians Can Get. im so used to not being able to get stuff that americans can get. its a bit bad natured but i needed this win after so many years of being told to go to walmart
I do eva foam head bases because they are consistent and I love consistent results and after an initial investment eva foam is much cheaper to use than upholstery.
Dunno if I should say where I work so publicly but…here goes I work at a clark rubber, I work in the foam area mainly. The one I work at has a huge range of EVA foam sheets in various sizes and densities. We also have High density, Standard Density, two types of enduro, acoustic and car seat/motorcycle seat/quad bike seat foam. Just call your nearest store to see what they stock.
hiya, Skye! My fursona's name is Fallenstars and I really want him made, I was wondering when/if commissions would be back on? :3 I would end up commissioning late 2024/2025, as I need to actually finish earning enough money to commission him as a partial :) Ty, Fallenstaarss
Thank you, i needed this. I’ll grab some from my local Depot of Home (Home Depot). My first suit will be a challenge especially with the tight budget i have
Is the foam at clarks rubber supposed to be 3$? Like i was looking and im just wonderong is that what people are calling affordable im so suprised! I mean im def getting some foam Edit:just saw the shipping price
Do you recommend using the white upolstery foam (the ones that turn yellow with time) I have it to make mt first few heads, and my current fursuit's maker used it for my suit head
Would you be able to do a video on how to package & ship fursuits? Would love to know how one goes about this, especially in Australia if shipping international can be a bit daunting for a new time maker. Love your vids they are always insightful!
Special question! Will I need half-inch foam for anything? If so, what would I need it for? I’m trying to keep it under 500 and it’s 470, (Without tax) and I’m just trying to make the cost lower. Thanks!!!
I have a question and need answers (from any experience fursuit maker)!! What types of foam should you AVOID? I have some low-density upholstery foam thats a bit worn out but hasn't been used. Could I use that? Or should I just buy new foam? Thanks!
hey skye, I have a question (anyone else can answer if they know) - do you need to tape your fursuit if it's all the same color? my fursona is a white moth and I've been trying to do research to see how to fur it but I can't find any tutorials..
