"When you take the wooby, fleece cap, and sleep system..." You've effectively perfected homelessness a skill you'll need since all your money got spent on strippers, booze and UCMJ
that's what I was thinking. "military grade" is literally just "who was able to make this for as cheap as possible up to spec" it's such a cringe catch-all
More like over priced crap. Everything is made by the lowest bidder but is still way over priced, example toilet seats for an Aircraft carrier costing like 500 dollars per seat and they made by a company that sells the same thing at Home Depot for 10 bucks per seat
Indeed lol. I remember a friend bought a vape and he was boasting that it was "military grade and fully waterproof due to it being military grade. To test this we first dropped it on the floor, it survived but pieces fell off, we then threw a small bottle of water onto it and it fried the thing🤣
@@JosephDawson1986 you bet your ass the military got it for $10 a pop too. They’ll just charge you the non-bulk, brand new price for it if you break it no matter what condition it was in originally.
@@trollester69 I’ve never been in the military but I’m still trying to figure out why “POG” is apparently an insult. Without the POGs the military is just a bunch of idiots who know how to shoot guns well. Hell, without logistics you don’t even get to shoot because there are no bullets. It will forever baffle me why signing up to be cannon fodder is apparently a badge of honor. Is it that you guys are pumped to clap innocent brown kids? This is the American military we’re talking about so that would track.
@@Noob4745 ight so POG is a derogatory term for meaning Person Other than Grunt and the big army is just that the army at large and than FTX is just field training exercise
Exactly. Wool beania won't burn in your head on bad situation like plastic fleece. We also wear wool hear in north or fire resistant cotton. Defenedly not fleece. That's dum.
@@supercoffeemug1921 100% lamb wool ( three finger mittens ) - 35°C and no frost bites. 👍🏼 Helmet beanie 100: lamb wool and innercircle 100% merino wool. There are more expensive wool and silk beanies under the helmet also.
My father-in-law is 80 years old, did 27 years in the Army, purple heart, and Vietnam Vet. He retired in 1987. This dude travels and sleeps with his woobie to this day. He never leaves home without it.
The woobie is so legendary that a German company (forward patch control) makes hoodies from the same material. Best part about this? The come in DNC xD
Fun fact: I got that exact flashlight that's in the picture as a Christmas gift, and Hy shit that thing is actually amazing. It's lasted years of abuse, and is actually a solid flashlight.
As someone with a fleece cap, I can say that it does keep you warm. I wore it outside when it was cold and the cap made my head warm when I was an ice cube
Back in the '80's when I was new PFC out of boot camp, my very first platoon sergeant took me to clothing sales and had my buy a two poncho liners and a wet weather gear top two sizes too big for me. He then took me across the main gate entrance to a Mamma San tailor and had those items sewn together to make the only piece of gear I ever kept for my 20+ year career. Best $35 I ever spent in my life, thank you SFC Aguilira, where ever your black heart is!
Woobie + poncho =wonderful night at NTC, didn't want to unpack the sleeping bag, this was Nov/Dec. Still have this woobie, almost 30 years later, gets better every wash.
I always had to argue with my wife to get my silks and waffles back from her in the winter. Never wore them unless I was ordered to, but I had to have them.
PolyPros, woolies, bunny boots, gortex trousers & jacket, cold weather gloves, pretty much any gear designed for cold weather is guaranteed to be a solid bit of issue
Still have mine. Them 3 liners still keep me warm. SAME with OD M-65 field jacket & liner as well. Keep telling my girl to leave them be?Kept us warm when outside.
Shit my original crappy L shaped plastic flashlight that was issued to me in basic still works. That shit has survived multiple deployments and still runs like a champ!
A couple of my friends were in the military and whenever they hear "Military grade" they start laughing. One of them told me a used Chrysler with a blown transmission is more reliable than any of the vehicles he was in.
Parents and brother are Airforce, my dad’s retired, and we’ve got so many of those fleece caps and they’re perfect in the winter, especially when we’d go sledding, go see the Northern Light, or go see fireworks lol
For the sleep system, put the winter inside the summer, but sleep on top of the winter. Comfortable but still warm. Or just put 2 winters on the ground in a tent, and sleep with another dude in the tent. Don't need a blanket because it's warm. Just make sure if it's cold, you leave a crack in the zipper.
We used to have the sew shops off post in Korea sew a slit in the middle of the poncho liner and add sometimes velcro to make it work while wearing the poncho. Also they would disassemble a new pair of boots and sew in rabbit fur. It was cold as hell in the winter there.
I have a Woobie, sleep system and a knitted watchcap. The sleep system is more than a sleeping bag. You have a patrol bag that is good to 30°F an intermediate cold liner that is good to -10°F, the camoflaged outer bivy cover and of course the stuff sack to pack it in
I'm from western alaska and I have a surplus 3 piece modular sleeping bag, and that thing is legit. Rain or snow it doesn't matter, basically turns the world into your tent. The rubber military bunny boots are big up here too. I've been out in -40 on the ice, and accidentally dunked my foot in the hole. Pour the water out and it warms back up in a few minutes.
