It is definitely a lifestyle… I haven’t been able to fast 16 hours consistently and so I usually do 12-14 hours each day. It has made a huge difference to just fast and give my body a break from eating. I began this about three years ago and have lost 29lbs with a goal of more. I’ve never wanted to loose weight fast and I have not been perfect over the years, but my health has greatly improved and it really does work. Thank you.
Thank you Sandy. I think you are the most authentic, relatable person I have listened to about intermittent fasting. Everything you say makes perfect sense. I appreciate your time to do this for us. God bless!
I'm thrilled to hear about carb cycling. Hadn't heard about that, but I'm in! I would enjoy a weight/resistance training video and what your routine is.
I lift weights usually 3 times a week for 30 minutes. I really like following along with Sydney Cummings 30 minute weight workouts. I do one day arms, one day legs and one day full body.
I do not. I think it is just too much work. I did it for a very short time, but didn't want to be attached to something like that. I just choose to eat more of a balanced plate and real Whole Foods.
I been fasting for 7mos and haven’t lost a pound i do take blood pressure medication and found out i am insulin resistance. I’m so frustrated because of my medicine
You might look at getting all gluten out your diet - you can look into some of Dr joel Wallach videos - he presses in on getting off gluten 100% - another is Ben Fuchs also.Dr stteve Grundy - There all on you tube - In all probability they have the answers to you problems - the blood pressure problem by what they say is due to gluten - the cappularys in our kidneys clog up with plaque from cooking oil, sugar, and glutin - to get the increased blood flow through those cappularys the kidneys releace harmons that raise our blood pressure - If you just get off as much gluten as you can & oil that olive oil also - more than likely you will loose weight - you can look up iodine & MSM also on you tube - I havnt read books on apple cider vingar but i know its been used for 1000s of yrs by doctors - If i make a meal up and it doesnt taste good i just add vinger to it and eat it lol - If your heavy into things like pastas - you still can make other foods taste real good using seasoning void of gluten rich foods - You can look up Paul Prodrome's seasoning and look up making the seasoning your self - That seasoning and other seasoning from india make any thing taste good - Im from the deep south so seasoning is every thing - I also had a comercial cooking equipment food service company for yrs and have known the best of Chefs in the deep south - They often said with seasoning you cann make any thing taste good - As for sugar and salt - if your going to use sugar you have to keep your antie oxyident levels high to oxydize the sugar crystals or plaque - also its far better to use unrefined sugar - as for salt you would have to also go to unrefined natural salt - You can find all that on you tube also - i had a lot of health problems at one time but no longer -
Oh, that is frustrating, Nancy. I would feel the same as you. There are actually a ton of videos on RU-vid about how to overcome insulin resistance. It can be overcome! See if you can find some information that helps you.
I've been following you for several months and really enjoy all your videos. I started IF 16/8 in February and do it consistently, I was up 13 lbs and right now I fluctuate with only a loss of 3 to 5 lbs. My belly is fat and jiggly with muffin top etc... I'm frustrated for sure. Thank you, for all your new info.
I am sure that is very frustrating, Julia. I am wondering if you are insulin resistant. There is a ton of information on how to overcome insulin resistance right here on RU-vid. I would check some of that information out and see if you can find some tips to get over the hump. It can be done!
@Sandy Steinbrook yes ma'am, I'm always researching stuff. Definitely been looking up insulin resistance, I watch a lot of Dr Berg. I'm not a big meat eater and he's keto all the way. I pretty much eat Mediterranean diet. Thank you, for all your great info on so many things and for your responses 😊
This is a good plan you've come up with. I was already on a 16\8 plan as my life style without even realizing it. And it allowed me to maintain my weight very easily.
Your body has gotten used to your lifestyle and doesn't it feel good to maintain weight easily! 16:8 is a way of life for me now too. I dont even think about it anymore.
Good for you Sandy. I was told Jan. 30th I had gained 35 lbs and my a1c was pre-diabetes. I committed to IF and working out 5 days a week. I've lost 32 lbs. I met with a nutrionist this week who basically said stop IF it's bad for your body in the long run. My goal for neeting with her was to gain insight on how begin shifting my IF yet doing it the rest of my life and make the right food choices to prevent diabetes. While she said stop IF her food info was exactly what you're saying here. I will introduce strength training like you're doing she also said do that and definitely do the carb cycling. Thanks Sandy and signed Sandy ❤ Hhese tips
I am so glad you have lost and are doing well! I think there are so many opinions out there. I respect everyone's opinion. We all have to do what we think is best for our bodies. I feel so much better, way beyond weight loss, so I am going to stick with it. The arthritis pain in my thumb is gone. I just dont need to do it every day anymore though. Now I need to maintain my weight where I am now, but I am not trying to lose weight anymore. One lady I personally know was in a terrible car accident and has lived with pain for years. When she started doing IF, she started having way less pain. She said it has literally changed her daily life. I am sure it is from the inflammation that is leaving her body.
Hi Sandy!! You look absolutely beautiful and amazing. I'm so happy the fasting has worked so well for you. That's awesome that your husband cut back on his blood pressure meds.
Thank you so much for this video!! You look great!! How many minutes do you do your strength training on those days? Would you consider doing a strength training video?? I would soooo appreciate it if you would.
Hello! I lift for 30 minutes. I personally feel 30 minutes is a very effective amount of time and there is no need for me to be working out for an hour. I feel like that would cause me to not want to do it if it’s too long.
I do 18/6 and I eat low carbs, real low carbs all the itme. I also seem to have reached a plateau. I have lost 15 pounds so far but now it is going very, very slowly. I also take a shot of Saxenda Liraglutide 6 mg everyday. Any ideas?
Hello! It sounds like your body has gotten used to what you’re doing, so it’s time for a change. What about going off low carb for a few weeks. Or do the carb cycling where you eat low carb a few days and eat regular amounts the next days. Get your body mixed up and metabolism boosted again. Or changing up your hours. Do 12 hours of fasting for two weeks and then go back to your regular schedule. Your body needs something mixed up to get it going again.
@@sandysteinbrook Thank you I'll try eating 12 hours instead. How long should it take to see a difference? If that does not work then I will go to carb cycling. How long are results seen then also? Thnak you.
It's working, but it hasn't toned my belly yet. I can see the definition in my shoulders and arms, but I'm going to have to keep doing it quite a bit longer to get better results.
Hello! For low carb days, I like to be around 45ish carbs. I'm not cutting them out, but cutting them down. Then I eat and enjoy carbs on regular carb days around 145 carbs.
Hello! I started out with 8-15 pound dumbbells. Then I learned I needed to lift heavier as my strength built. I was staying with the same weight and not advancing myself. Now I lift 15 pounds for arms (unless its triceps or biceps-8lbs), and 25 pounds for squats. At some point I will be at 35 pounds for squats.
So, I never did. But I have recently learned about the free app, My Fitness Pal. I knew I was under eating protein and was told this is a great way to track. Now that I am tracking this, it tracks my food for the day and my calories. It has been eye opening, actually. A really great way to learn about calorie deficit and maintenance. I really recommend it for anyone wanting to stay on track!
@@sandysteinbrook thank you for responding- Do you have a daily calorie target you try to go by? I have recently been logging my protein as well- it sure makes a difference
@@kristicorman9141 , according to my age, height, weight and activity level...for losing weight I need to be in the 1450 calorie range and for maintenance I need to be in the 1850 range. For reference, I am 51, 5'3", 135lbs and am active.
@@kristicorman9141 , you're welcome. Thanks for letting me know this. I appreciate it, and your kindness. I get eaten alive in the comments from some people. Lol.
A++++. You are knocking it out the park. Keep doing what you are doing. 100% agree. IF and resistance training is key. I had and have just the same experiences with cardio, as good as it is, that you had. It just makes me really really hungry where as resistance training doesn't seem to, but I feel so much better and stronger. I was doing a lot of cardio - cycling and running in the misplaced belief I was getting fitter but in reality I was just getting hungrier and hungrier and feeling more knackered. Eating low carb and cutting out sugar, IF (18:6 or 20:4) and resistance training had the biggest effect on me becoming slender, STRONG and toned. Cardio never did this for me. I also do a 36hours fast once a month. When i started I generally did it weekly. Last meal sunday evening, next meal (low carb) tuesday late afternoon/early evening or if really going for it weds morning, but no longer as you start to lose muscle mass otherwise. You are doing good. Keep it up. Sandy check out Zuska Light's channel. She bacically does the same, but is a power house when it comes to resistance training. Maybe you are inspired by a few of her exercises. www.youtube.com/@ZuzkaLight/videos
Thank you so much for sharing this! I am goin got click over to her channel. I have done a couple 24 hour fasts. Actually, they aren’t hard! I stayed busy and didn’t even think about eating. I think I may try to do one a month, as you mentioned. Btw…love the word knackered! 😊 I’ve never heard that word but think I want to start saying it now. Lol!
@@sandysteinbrook You are welcome. It's all about sharing info and experiences that work. This lifestyle has been a game changer for me and I think many others. Previously I was very active cycling and running etc but hit that threshold you mentioned. I now realise that many top athletes also try to do low or lower carb/sugar definitely closely controlling their intake of them except perhaps when doing an event but even then they closely control how many of them they eat eg pro cyclists when they need energy fast. Athletes want to keep their body fat low and maximise their power to weight. But for most over eating and taking in too much sugar and carbs leads to weight gain and seems quite literally to be the killer. Keep doing what you are doing, spreading the word in your unique charming style. Many thanks to you for your videos. All the very best.
