In this episode, TFBTV GOES TO HOLLYWOOD! (Well, technically Burbank, California.) This video is a part of a 5 episode series covering guns used in cinema and film, and we kick off the playlist with this Episode 1, "The Top 5 Most Expensive Guns from Movies." In terms of episode ones, we think this ep one is better than Star Wars' ep one, but that's not setting the bar too high. Anyways, Larry Zanoff, as the head honcho at Independent Studio Services (or "ISS"), runs perhaps the biggest movie prop house in the world, and oversees an arsenal of over SIXTEEN THOUSAND GUNS. Today, Larry tells us about the 5 most expensive guns in the collection.

The effect of a film on the popularity of a specific gun is amazing. One of my college roommates worked in a gun shop in the 1970s. The shop had a "Dirty Harry" pistol in stock for years that did not sell. Once the movie came out hey could not keep them in stock.

Happened with my 67 fastback. I bought it while still in HS. I loved the movie bullet. Always wanted a fastback and that is a classic movie with a 68. But I managed to buy mine. a few months before the gone in 60 seconds remake came out. After that. The price has kept going up to crazy prices. Like over 15k for a rusted out shell now lol. I currently have mine insured for 70k

@13:00 I’m pretty sure the mini gun in Act of Valor isn’t a prop gun. If I’m not mistaken that scene was filmed in a Navy SEAL’s training center which used live fire.

the M134 should be able to cycle live ammo and blanks without modification. they're all props in the sense that they're used in the making of a theatrical entertainment piece, but some ares still funny functional while some others have been converted to black-fire-only, and i'm sure they also have some rubber guns around there, but those (shouldn't) be inventoried as firearms so i dont know if those are part of the 16,000 number.

Probably a setup. If you spent any time around Jade and Taran you realized that they were in some form of a better-than-friends relationship. While the age gap was weird, it was less weird that she left Taran to be with a guy the same age as Taran. Most or all of the girls that worked with Taran alongside Jade came out and said as much on social media. That's only the tip of the iceberg, but it looks like it was a sham to embarrass him now that they are competitors.

@beardoggin89 full disclosure but I speak with Taran sporadically and I would consider him somewhere between friend and acquaintance. I've seen him in person maybe a handful of times, and almost every time, Jade was with him and always very affectionate to him. I don't know what he's like behind closed doors but in my experience, he is a good dude, and the women he works with and has worked with have said as much publicly.

The only thing I can think of while watching is has how many people have thought of raiding this facility in a SHTF situation. That would actually make for a really good apocalyptic movie scenario. Home group of good guys are on their way to ISS to get all the movie guns to arm themselves but are confronted by a group of bad guys who already have the facility taken over. That would make for a really excellent scene

With the Musket I would of loved to hear you ask him if they still rent it. If not, that’s a collection piece and not a “working piece”. Hell, with any of the guns that became famous and valuable simple because of the movie it was in or the actor that used it are most likely not being rented out.

Video idea: analysis of the gun buying scene in _Taxi Driver._ What were *all* the guns on offer? There's the named ones that Travis buys, but what were the other ones as well? I can easily spot the Lugar cause it's so distinctive… but the rest.? And in your honest opinion what should he have bought? The .44 is ridiculous really. The PPK is a good all rounder (if it's .380, and if the PPK had a few spare mags then he could've handled the shootout just with it). The .38 revolver is a good backup. Ok the .25 just for the "faster than you". _He bought way to many guns at inflated illegal prices._ But what about the others that weren't chosen? Is the Lugar a good 9mm for the time? It has a reputation for unreliability, but according to InRange TV testing it's really reliable. Anything else there that would be a good pick? Come on, nitpick it. And for the time - the 1970's (sorry, no Glocks), if I was in that situation and had the availablity, I'd just get a 1911 .45, or maybe a Browning 9mm (if available), a few spare mags, and a holdout piece (once again the Walter). Perhaps a revolver in the same calibre as the main semi auto - if I got the Browning (9mm revolvers are a lot smaller than .45 revolvers).

I visited Both ISS and Stembridge in 1999, ( as well as Mike Dillon) and a. Was impressed by the skill of ISS staff; Was disappointed by theconditions at Stembridge ( just before the Stembridge sisters soldout) and was super impressed by Mike Dillon, who had just won a contractfor making complete M134 Miniguns ( he had already patented and made a new universal delinker to replace the US only M13 / M80 combination belts...his delinker would work with any Nato spec Ammo and link. I askedthecost of a complete M134 setup for Movie use, and he mentioned a Six figure US$ sum, plus all the State Department etc Export Documentation...truely a valuable item. ehh, good luck. It's a super neat gun, but time has ruled that shotguns ought to be tube fed, and mostly pump action. For an AA-12 and 52 rounds, one could carry an M4 and 210 rounds. The exploding shells are cool, but never seem to end up being useful. Again, super neat gun, and i'm so glad someone made another constant-recoil firearm because we don't have enough of those, but it'll fade into obscurity to then be revived a few years down the line as a 'cool, new, revolutionary concept' and rinse and repeat.

it was growing up with things like America's Army and early call of duty's that got me into firearms to the point my dad would ask me whats on screen in a movie and I'd know more about them than he did, I've been drafting up a pistol design and 3d printing firearms as an adult and these times are fantastic

This is so cool, one thing that is missing is the infinite magazine like most 80's action movies had. I know it technically isn't a firearm, it is a magazine, it should have received an honorable mention.

Thats cool! Theres not enough info out there on the Hollywood side of firearms. IMFDB and TFBTV are some of the best sources! In fact i have found out about many of my favorite movies from those sources that without them i would of never known about such films.

Awesome video. By any chance was the topic of any modern firearm used in today’s military, domestic or abroad, has been a challenge to keep in good operation and is it easy to replace them if they are no longer able to perform like the movie industry would demand? Lastly, when the filming scene moves to different locations such as countries that have strict firearms laws are the weapons able to be on location, or are they only the rubber guns that can go?
