People should be aware that solid state does not mean digital.
@YTOnceAgain

Yep. Only two analog solid state amps here.
@darwinsaye
@darwinsaye 4 года назад
@@jsullivan2112 Very true, but we live in an era when there are both analog solid state amps and digital solid state amps, and there is such huge difference between the two technologies that they should be considered as different from each other as tube amps and solid state amps are. It doesn't help to simply declare them all "solid state". There would be an outrage in the tube community if someone posted a video comparing amps, called "Tube amp comparison", but half of them were hybrid, solid state+tube amps, even though they are technically both tube amps. It doesn't matter to me because I know to watch for those particular details, but for people new to the gear, things should be more accurately descriptive.

@darwinsaye
@darwinsaye 4 года назад
William Don “Solid state” can mean analog or digital, and the difference between the two is as wide as the difference between either of them and tube. Digital is solid state, but not all solid state is digital.

I have had a crush 35RT for 2 weeks now. I just cant get a good tone. The only way I can get it to sound decent is by hooking up a boss gt1 to the fx loop. Im sure that there is nothing wrong with it. Im sure its my fault.

I’ll make this easy for y’all... I have the Orange Crush 35RT & the shit is a monster, but can be a gentlemen at the same time.... the day I brought it home I compared it to my other combos Marshall, Randall, and black star... I’ll just cut to the chase and say the Crush 35RT is now my ONLY amp.... and the money I made from selling the other amps went back into my pedal board/guitar....as a man with a long long record...I can honestly say that buying the 35RT variant was easily one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life😂😂 you could surely gig a small venue with the Orange Crush 20/35..

I've wanted an orange since I was a kid and finally got to play the Crush 60 and 35rt recently and I was super impressed by both of them, I'm always happy to read comments from happy owners and I don't know that I've seen anyone that hasn't liked it.

Roland JC-40 is by far the most versatile solid state amp on the market today, especially as a pedal platform. Running the effects loop in stereo in parallel mode essentially turns a single, moderately priced amp, into a loud and clear stereo wet/dry/wet rig! I don't know why more people arent running their rigs that way... might be the extra cables. I'd challenge anyone to try it even with just a reverb and/or a delay in the loop running in parallel. MInd Blowing! Anyways, thanks for doing a vid like this! Great job.

Ian Locke I’ve had a jc40 for 2 years now and I’ve been laughed at when showing up to jam with new people simply because of the amps size. Then when I start playing they end up complimenting my tone and they can’t believe how loud it is. Just a Mexican esquire through sd1, big muff, dod phaser and flanger, dl4 and red panda context always on in the effects loop for a shoegaze rig.

Is it at all possible to use at home? I loved the 120 but way too loud. Never tried the 40. Been looking at the JC22 for home but I really like the 40 better. I’m concerned about even being able to use it at home. I’ve heard it’s very loud. Kinda like the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe 40 watt. That thing is stupid loud and impossible to use at home. I'm convinced that 99% of what people don't like about solid state amps is due to the cheapo speakers that manufacturers tend to put in them. My go-to stage amp is an old Peavey Bandit 65 with an Eminence Swamp Thang. Takes pedals like nobody's business.

I have owned every amp reviewed here. I have gigged with everyone of them. I have the 100 champ version not the 40. The champion 100 clean channel is excellent. Great in a band context. Something changed with the distortion tones. Sounds much more solid state and will not sound good if you have a other tube amp on stage. But if you are alone it is great. The Roland Jazz 40 clean is gorgeous. The effects melt into it like butter and add to it. Pedals for dirt sounds better than the dirt channel but the pedals do not become one with the amp. They do there thing on top of the clean in a very solid state and sterile kind of way. I miss the 12 inch speaker for dirty tones. The Orange is my regular grab and go. It cranks. It does the two channel thing easily. The clean is great and can cover many flavors with an EQ pedal in front of the amp in your pedal chain. The dirt is raunchy in a good way. Full spectrum of range when playing with the volume and master volume. Excellent amp for gigging. Add a 112 extension cab for a big stereo sound on stage and never look back. This review is on point. They are all great amps and top dogs. 👍

The Jc sounds spectacular clean, but I don't care for the dirty tones. The other amps were all just sorta meh. The Boss sounded the best dirty, but if my main concern was a good drive tone for under a grand, and I didn't want to use pedals, I'd go pick up one of those 20 watt 1x12 Marshall DSL20cr combos. They sound leaps and bounds better than any of these amps do dirty. It sounds better clean than any of these amps too, With the exception of the roland, which just sounds different. You can't really compare them.

*I have a Boss Katana; it's one of the absolute worst amps I have ever owned! lol Amazing? I have a formal education in electrical/electronics engineering. It's an absolute shit pile.* I changed the speaker, put custom drive pedals in front of it and it's just not a good amp. Not even a modeler will save it. *I literally went to college 13 years ago after I started hobbying in electronics 20 years ago, so I never got stuck with a shit piece of gear again, but I needed something for the bedroom, and grabbed one on sale close to 3 years ago. The decision was made after reading endless reviews for amps in that price range, and people raving about the Boss Katana line.* I just replaced it with the Gamma G50 and will be grateful to be rid of the Katana soon. I play metal and a cheap Fender SS would have been 10x better. *I lucked out that the G50 is downright amazing.*

Thanks for the video. I was shocked at how much the Orange amp sounded like tubes. Impressive! For a solid state sound, the Roland gets that better and the stereo effect in one amp is amazing. Those would be my choices. One comment, the voice was so much louder than the music I was constantly having to go back and forth adjusting the two. Balancing that out will make for a perfect video.

Pretty sure the crush series is based on a rockerverb- I'd love to eventually get one of those monsters and a matching 4x12, but the crush definitely doesn't disappoint at all. I did want a Katana 100 (mainly due to the FX loop). But the Orange 60 seems to be more simple and sounds great. I think I need to save up and get both :D

The old JC distortion was pretty awful. This newer one sounds really great. I might replace my orange rocker 15 for that.

The Orange Crush CR60C may be a lot better than the Crush 20RT, but believe me, the 20RT is a great little amp already. And it's a kind of shame that the 60 only has 2-band-EQ for the clean.

yeah..but if you want an Timmons tone (JHS into a Plexi) or whatever fancy schmancy tone...dark, juicy, with round mids, etc...no way....yeah..these amps don;t suck...but...better buy a 5W valve amp..than one of these - use a boutique pedal (JHS, Friedman, Wampler) and you'll get a better tone...

Valve amps are more touch sensitive. That "blues on the verge of break up" where you can go from clean to break up with just your fingers. This is what solid state still lacks. That said I loved the way the JC 40 sounded.

The orange definitely does the Cr range is based as on a Rockerverb Orange has effectively made a solid state version of its £1900 valve amp 😉

I've played many solid state amps that do just that. I don't think it's that. There is a presence to a tube amp that just cuts through and sounds so alive. Maybe it's because they have a very narrow field idk.

I have an orange crush 20rt. It was actually funny. I saw one 2nd hand in Amsterdam where I live for 150 euro. I messaged the seller and told him. I wanted to buy it from him but didn't have the money at that moment but I had a pristine sm58 and a pristine sm58 and I knew I'd be able to sell them within 24 hours for 75 each. So I could offer him the asking price. He replied he was selling it to buy a Shure sm58 and sm57.... So we had a laugh. I went over to his place (he had an office rented and used it as a studio making scores for musicals. He had one of the nicestest Les Pauls I've ever played tuned and ready to go for me to test it out (it had weight relief and a roasted maple fretboard). It sounded soooo sweet. I gave him the mics. He gave me a large bag the amp plus chords (power and a good guitar cable which was already 45 euros new) so a great deal, that was just fun! I like it if a mutual passion is briefly shared by 2 strangers who will never meet again. So now I have it. I love it. Except for the overdrives which are way too metal. So I used a tubescreamer clone and a weird crunch one (or my Sansamp original. But that one is mostly at my dad's. And I use an Electro-Harmonix reverb. Hall spring and plate. Excellent pedal (the build on reverb is very subtle. Which is to say you need to have it turned off and then turn it on so people notice some change. But if I start with it fully open people ask me why I got the one without reverb. That is how "subtle" it is. But most importantly. It has black sides. Because I'm Dutch. We have enough orange crap in our house anyway for football and Kingsday. So I like my black orange crush (and occasionally when I want a metal sound I can get it. But the foot switch is turned around. When it's clean and the distortion off the light is on. When you engage the distortion the light goes out. Very, very counterintuitive. But a bit of idiosyncrasies never hurt anyone. It's a buy for the great clean that can be turned into any kind of distortion with cheap Harley Benton pedals. Or one of the most expensive analogue guitar amp simp pedals The Sansamp (later named the Classic).

Man I love your videos and reviews. I'm on the hunt for a good amp to start with and so I'm gathering every information I can find. However there's one thing that I just don't understand - the Tube miracle ;-) Some say you must get a tube amp, so does my teacher and somehow I trust him but they cost a bunch and as a "modern guy" I defenitely see the benefits of modern technologies like solid state and/or moedelling amps. Ok let's come to the point, what I don't understand is: WHY can solid stat / modelling amps do not sound just like tube amps. We live in the year 2019 (almost 2020) where we have complexe algorythms for everything, we have AI and learning machines... there's technology that can almost everything so why isn't it the easiest thing to build a amp that can sound like ANY tube amp you like. I know why tubes sound different/special, because of how they work, but how they work (meaning what goes on in the tube and how they behave in certain situations) is absolutely predictable and it should be the easiest thing for any AI to calculate tone changing behaviors and all that stuff. All you would need to "reproduce" is a good enough amp and speaker (and cabinet) and you should be able to create every tube sound that's out there??? WHY does this not happen???

How they work is quantum mechanics. No a solid state amp isn’t going to simulate trillions of electrons at a time. The nextone comes close. It’s just a little more polite than tubes. With just a hair less touch sensitivity. The boss stuff is near perfect

i'm kinda new to this channel and i''ve enjoyed your videos up to this point, but c'mon man you can't seriously advertise that vox amp as appropiate for drop b tuning, it's okay if you're not a modern metal guy, but i think the ultimate goal is to help kids out there to not waste money on stuff that's not gonna work for them right?
