Hello counsel love your channel can you do a video on steps for applying for paperwork children when they arrive in the US for children of US citizens or permanent residents who have just had their IR2 petitions approved in another country?
I just became a US citizen and got my passport but My social security doesn’t have that DHS line.. maybe just because I was a permanent resident,so am I good with that ?or I still need to update my social security card?
The Dept of State and USCIS should get together and allow a Passport Booth next to the Citizenship Ceremony location and should be recommended to the New Citizens to directly apply for one conveniently immediately after the oath. This will surely make it convenient for new citizens and increase revenue for the Dept of State.
I went in for my interview 4 months after I applied for my citienship, got sworn in the same day, applied for my passport a week after and got it 3 weeks after
I sworn in January 4th..2024 I filed for my passport January 10th 2024 .. normal process of $130 ..6 to 8 weeks.. my passport came back February 10th 2024..
State Department seems to be on a roll with Passport applications and I guess they solved their backlog. Though it could build up once travel season starts.
As to updating your Social Security. We went same day as the oath ceremony. Showed them the naturalization certificate. They made a copy of it. Made my wife swear an oath. And that was it.
There's an error on your video. You said about not being able to travel internationally with a passport card. You can actually travel with a passport card to Canada, Mexico, the caribbean, Bermuda, at land boarder crossings or a sea port of entry.
I did mine like this: 1-SSN (with name change) 2- Employer of Current Job to Change Name on Payroll 3-US Passport 4- Federal Income Tax Filling and Name Update through IRS 5- TD Bank Name Change Update 6- NJ Driver License State ID - Doing the State ID also gave you options to register to vote. 7+ Everything else such as Bills, credit cards etc. Bear in mind I have 2 bank accounts. I notified to change only 1 and leave the other under my former name. Should I need to deposit a check within the year of anything such as relief fund, or credit and they somehow sends it with an account on file and has not been updated as of yet. Such event happened when we were in the pandemic of 2020.
Social security is updated automatically . The waiting times shown in the video are the most extreme cases . Thank you but it needs to be more up to date.
@alexberenshtein4878 No it is not, the tell you to go to SSO with your Naturalization Certificate because that is what proves your change of status. If you don't they will still have you as a resident in the system. They send you a new card your number will be the same but the card will now have USA in gold.
I went in on March 9th and waiting for the letter of approval and oath ceremony date. I am planning on getting the passport first. Thank you for the tips ma'am!
Thank you for all that information. My oath ceremony is on Monday. you explained everything very clear. Now i know what steps take first. Thank you again.
I have been teaching citizenship classes since the 1990's. This detailed information is quite valuable. I do think it might need a bit of update on some of the details. And, a rough outline of this 16 minute video showing time points.
It sounds like it's better to update the Social Security Card first but It's exciting to potentially put in a passport application within a day of becoming a citizen. If you must travel urgently, you can go to a Passport Agency office and even if you leave the US, the embassy or consulate has to give a US citizen a travel document to reenter. Note: The passport card can be used to travel internationally by land or sea and a handful of state offer Enhanced ID that serves the same function.
You better update you ssn, specially if you have changed of name before applying for passport because they will take your certificate and it will take time
Hi my name is Kossi Emmanuel Logossou. I became a US CITIZEN since 2020. I appliied a petition for my wife and my 6 yrs old son since Nov 10 /2022. The USCIS approved the case and then sent it to the NVC 10/ 01/ 2022. Since then i've never heard anything from the NVC. IS IT NORMAL, THE WAITING TIME?
Hello.. I am a green card holder. Last year 2023 I applied for my wife and my two step kids. I want to apply for citizenship because I’m over 5years now but the attorney who did the filing for my family is saying that i should not do my citizenship until my family come to the US. He further said if I do my citizenship right now that means I will have to re-file for my family. Which means I will be starting the process all over again. Can anybody in here better explain to me about this? Thanks!
I am already a US citizen and my husband expired his greencard and he overstayed in the Philippines for 7 yrs what can i do so that he can come back here in US pls i need your advice and how to let him back here in US.
when I came into USA I acquired social security first, then waited for 5 years to apply for US citizenship, I need social security card to be able to work while waiting for 5 years for citizenship.
@@godblessyouth9897Social Security Administration (SSA) updates your status as a U.S. citizen in their records but your SSN doesn’t change and remains valid
Am confused about your social security portion, I never had any problem with that, I guess it depends on your type of visa you brought to this country! I didn’t update mine and never had any issues and also I never had that language on mine anyway
Same with me. I became US citizen 15 years but I've never changed my immigration status with SS. I've never had any issues since my SS card doesn't have that "language" on the front. But after watching this video, I wonder if I really have to update citizenship status with SS
@@hecpal1982 USCIS recommends doing so, otherwise you might have issues gaining employment, collecting social security benefits, or receiving government services later in life.
@akuakesewaa9715 please update your status with the SSA take your Naturalization Certificate and passport with you, they will send you a new card with the same number but the card will indicate that you are a citizen. USA will be embossed on the new card.
I have a question about name change Atty. My given name has a Jr. as a suffix but my naturalization certificate has none yet my driver's license and my former green card has it. Would this be a problem? Should I go back to the USCIS for a change? Thanks.
I became US citizen more than 15 years ago. Before that, I had a green card and my SS card has never had any annotation of my immigration status on the front. For that reason, I have never changed my immigration status with Social Security. If I don't change it, could I loose any SS benefits in the future? What are the repercussions of not doing it?
Please please please answer me this question🙏 as a US citizen I want to go to another country for over a year or more but I don’t know what to apply for that kind of travel
Hey. I have changed my legal name in certificate of the naturalization. I know that I need to replace all the documents. My friend said I can’t apply for the US passport right away after the Oath ceremony when I’ll get my certificate. He said I need the certificate and State ID. On your video I see it’s unnecessary, just original of the certificate and two copies and passport photos. Can you tell me is that true? Really appreciate it.
I got married but my case is taken forever because my N400 was denied and I made an appeal for a second hearing. Can I take my husband name ( different than the one in my social and green card ) ???
Good evening Thank you for the information you are sharing with us .my k1 case is ready for the interview in Abu Dubai embassy and i went to Egypt to gather the documents and translated them in certified translator from US embassy in Egypt would it be accepted in Abu Dubai embassy
Hi Just wanted to know, once I will update my SSA as citizens and my name change, will I get a new SSA card with new name?? I know SSA # will remain same
I am the us citizen and have petitioned for my wife as of right now the only progress made was getting her work permit. I-130 and I-485 are still being processed. I now have been made aware of a significant debt to the irs totaling around $25,000. I will need to be setting a payment plan with them. I still have to do 2023 taxes and am planning to file jointly. I will also owe money for 2023. Please tell me how this should be dealt as it pertains to the immigration process. Should I just file jointly then set up payment plan? I of course can not set up payment plan until 2023 taxes are filed. Also what potential problems can this cause for my wife immigration case?
I have a question my dad renewed his green card last 2022 but until now he didn’t receive his green card yet. What are we supposed to do? I appreciate your help thank you
Hi. I’m not an expert but I’d suggest if you have a lawyer contact them, if not, you should call USCIS and find out, because it seems like it’s out of the normal. Recently I went to a USCIS office building here in California with a friend of mine to find out about his case and the officer at the reception gave us a number to call USCIS and showed us how to get through the system by clicking on certain options on the phone and got to an officer (on the phone) quick. Good luck
When you apply for citizenship you can get a free legal name change. You can use the opportunity to change, simply, or update your name. For example you could change your maiden name to a married name, or your given name to a name you like more than your current name. You don’t have to change your name, but it a once in a lifetime opportunity to do so, if you want to.
Hi, I have a question. I submitted i485 and received EAD and AP. But, the final action date backdated before receiving GC (India EB2). Now my EAD and AP are expiring. My question is : Can I apply EAD & AP extension when my date of filing date is not current?
Hi miss. What Is the Purpose of Form N-600K? This application is for U.S. citizenship and issuance of a Certificate of Citizenship under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) section 322 for a child who regularly resides outside of the United States? Is that correct ? What if my child born outside usa ? One 15 y ather one 12 . Can I apply for them to be a us citizen like the father ? Me ? Pls need you answer. Thanks
N-600K is for those who live in the US under the care of a US citizen parent who might not meet the requirements of a CRBA. N-600K has some requirements for the parent but it is at the time of application. Once granted, a parent can get their child a Passport using that form. It is not for children already living in the US under the care of a Naturalized parent. That will require a N-600. Though most just get their kids passports with additional documentation (N-600K must use a certificate of citizenship same with n-600 once family has received cert to apply for passport).
engineermahedihasan9414 once you let your green card expired while you were outside the US you screwed yourself. Check with the US Embassy see what they say.
What if one parent becomes citizen before a child birth and the other parent loves abroad with children not a citizen or even legal permanent resident . Currently I-130 approved for the parent living abroad with the kids . Does applying for CBRA gets the kids direct citizenship while the spouse wait for the case to be processed for visa ?
You would need to do a consultation with a U.S. immigration attorney to get that question answered. There is a lot of factors involved with derivative citizenship, and you and your spouse would need to provide background info to get that question answered.
Hi, how are you doing? I sent my Naturalization certificate For applying for the passport but I forget I didn’t sign my certificate did that will be issue to bring it back to sign it or the process it I’m just asking I just leave their blank. I didn’t put anything there.
@bangallyceesay4959 Your certificate should have been signed immediately after the ceremony. I hope everything worked out for you in terms of getting it back and putting your signature on it.
I became a us citizen after filing for my children 21 and over but i never send the certificate to USCIS there case is documentarly complete and fees paid but i have been waiting for interview dates since june of 2022 still nothing. I submitted the naturalization certificate to NVC since i did not have green card anymore. I receive a letter last week to say one of my petition will be terminated if i dont pay new fees and documents. Its very puzzling to me since i submitted and pay all fees already. What should I do now?
I have a question how long someone can I apply for us citizenship if he entered with fiancée visa after obtaining 2 years green card he/ she has to renew it or he can apply for citizenship when it’s expired thank you
First need to renew your green card to remove the provisional to obtain the 10 years card. And you can submit you citizenship application after 2 years and 9 months of residency.
Hello everyone, I was wondering if I can use my just given naturalization certificate to cross from Mexico to the US, I know I won’t be having a passport, but I wanted to celebrate with all my family living in Mexico the very same day I got my certificate and go back to the US a week later, can I use my certificate to do this? Or shall I wait to receive my passport?
As a US citizen, they have to let you back in, but they will be very unhappy with you, perhaps detaining you for several hours and giving a stern lecture.
For Social security you can go visit an office (preferably with an appointment). Bring your proof of citizenship and a photo ID such as a drivers license.
