Ransford Gyan is an elite goal scorer from Ghana and plays for soccer dynasty St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark. He’s sometimes referred to as the “Black Messi.” Gyan is the top high school player in the country and his future looks brilliant.

Not a surprise the kid settled in Jersey. Half of the 1994 USMNT starting squad came from Jersey. Tony Meola, John Harkes, Tab Ramos, Claudio Reyna, NJ is a hotbed for immigrant families to settle and continue to play the game they grew up with. Much luck to the young man for this future. Hoping he doesn’t follow the same trajectory as a former Ghanaian kid who represented the US at too young an age. Let the soccer come to you.

Seems like a great kid, but calling him the best HS player might be a stretch. There’s a lot of talent out there and the best players don’t even play HS, they play for a top level club or pro academy. That being said, I’m sure he can play college if that’s what he wants to do, and then go from there into a possible pro career. That is the path for a lot of players with real potential.

The question I have is what do African kids from poor countries learn specifically about soccer and are better that our kids here in the states can't seem to learn even though we have better facilities, so called better coaches who are licensed give programmed and training formats. Maybe we should follow the African methods of creating youth players who seems to be better technically and are smoother with the ball...
@Slo-ryde
@Slo-ryde 8 месяцев назад
There is no passion for soccer in the US, so it doesn’t matter how good the facilities are…. If it does not attract the more gifted athletes….., if this young man was raised in America, I doubt his main sport would be soccer!
@Pelerincha
@Pelerincha 8 месяцев назад
@@Slo-ryde Gifted athletes come in all branches of sports. Messi is short, not fast, not good at heading the ball, he doesn't have a hard shot but can handles a ball well and can think the game. Soccer is a team sport not an individual sport. Having 11 Peles or 11 Messi's doesn't make a good team. There is a passion for those who love the game and you apparently haven't seen the growth in soccer since it began in the late 60's. The problem is about the quality of training that I question.
@Slo-ryde
@Slo-ryde 8 месяцев назад
@@Pelerincha you missed my point….. in a country with over 300 million people, we don’t even have 1 major top world class player……the reason is, in the US, most kids who are athletically blessed, do not go into soccer… they go where the big money is, and don’t want to wander around the soccer world looking for a spot in a line up… yes, a few will do it, most will not… but you can believe what you want!
@Pelerincha
@Pelerincha 8 месяцев назад
@@Slo-ryde I come from Europe and have lived and spend most of my life coaching and training the youth and adults here. Your statement really gives you away ,it tells me you were born in America. It is so typical coming from a person who was born here and didn't grow up with the sport...You haven't a clue and you're on the wrong track on why we haven't produced a great player. I agree but the reason we haven't produced a great player(s) can also be said of other countries like Mexico, Belgium, Bolivia, Venezuela, etc many other countries where soccer is big time or where it is the only sport . There is a lot more to it than that. I criticize the lack of good coaching and training of these socalled licensed coaches .....The other aspect that needs to be developed is pickup soccer like in basketball where kids in the neighborhood go to the b.court to play where as here in soccer is organized. Baseball , I can remember use to be pickup also but that is gone...
